Wanted to clarify what I said about upload speeds in the tutorial. Upload speed DOES matter and has to do with speeds and latency (aka ping) in online matches. Since online gaming generally involves data being sent and received (uploaded and downloaded) both speeds are important. In the video I should have said that your download will be higher than your upload but that doesn't mean the upload isn't important. Upload speed will almost always be lower than download because download is generally used more during non-gaming activities like web searching and video streaming. So even though your upload may be lower, its still enough for gaming because not too many other people on your network will be using it. Upload is generally less than a quarter of the download so if you have 100MBPS your upload will usually be around 15-25MBPS. There isn't an easy way to get faster upload outside of the steps I outline in this video. In some cases your ISP may be able to provide you with symmetric speeds but not all ISPs offer it to consumers. I apologize for any confusion during the video. All the steps I discuss in this tutorial also work for upload as well so try them out and see if they help your connection.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who had this problem. I went from pretty decent connection on PS4 to basically being unable to play online games on the PS5
I have my PS5 wired and it clocks in at around 600 Mbps download speed but online gameplay still lag horribly in every game… Does anyone know why that is?
I want to tell you thank you for your help! I just randomly looked up videos and found yours. It was very easy to follow and understandable. You earned my subscription! Definitely will look up other content by you 😀😀
To add to this, each network (2.4GHz/5GHz) also has different channels. I've had routers where every so often the speed would slow and selecting a different channel would refresh and bring it back up again
Thank you so much mate! This helped me out massively. Glad I finally found someone that actually has a couple of options to do rather than just get an Ethernet cable. Thanks again!
@@nickrl7986 yea all the time it was so bad that I actually stopped playing any games online, until I done this and now it doesn’t happen every single game I go into.
To correct one MAJOR mistake with what you said… Upload Speed is equally as important as Download Speed. Upload speed is what determines how servers receive your input, for instance in an FPS Game like COD or BF, a higher and more steady upload speed would result in much fewer mis-registered shots and moments where you were clearly ahead in the gun battle, yet your 8 shots barely damage the opponent, but their 3-4 shots drop you instantly. Upload speed is extremely important and cable internet like Comcast sucks because they give you 95% of the speed you pay for for download speed and 5% or less for upload speed. I’ve been battling with comcraptic for years now about this and the can simply make an adjustment on their back end, but they’d rather force you to pay for a faster speed in order to have a higher upload speed.
Fair enough. I should've rephrased and said that upload speed will never be equal to download. As you mentioned most ISPs provided asymmetric speeds because most people use the download speeds more than the upload. Some ISPs give you the option to get symmetric speeds but that option is not always available. Thank you for the clarification though.
THANKS for showing the “options” on switching the band for a router. My att fiber had both and I knew I needed to be on 5 g and not 2.4. Went from 18 mbps to 245.6 mbps.
My son was forever complaining about his ping on Rocket League being very high and laggy, yet my speed tests on my phone showed my broadband being more than sufficient. I followed these steps and so far his ping has been in the low 40s ever since. Hopefully this resolved that issue, thanks for your work.
Take it from somebody that's played rocket League since day one and I'm actually pretty good at it with a ranking of champion. That being said the servers in that game suck and you are going to have lag no matter what if you're under 100mbs. It won't be every match but it will be a lot. Mine stays around 375 to 400 MBS and I still have lag on some matches especially in tournaments. 1 tip with that game is make sure the only servers he is trying to get into other ones closest to him like I have mine set to the east coast only
Good review. The only flaw I could see was with the DNS server section. I think you should have spent more time here knowing that not a lot of people have any idea of what this is and how it all works. Also, when you do connection testing, you need to run a few tests back to back and get the avg.
Have you tried resetting the modem? Reconnect ps5 and make a new profile to connect. I went from 500 to 900+ but had to change some settings in Comcast to get nat type 1 with high speed to work right
This worked. Especially when changed DNS. Also try updating your network config with the MAC address of your PS5. And set it to 5ghz. That one super boosted me
Ye bro I’m the exact same, I’ve only had my ps5 for about a week or two but I literally can’t play a game of it without it lagging, I don’t know what to do
I get around 80mbps at best when I connect via ethernet. The cable supports 1 gigabit, my internet is 1 gigabit, router supports this speed too. On my PC I get 900+ mbps, but on PS4/5 it's only around 100mbps even with changed DNS. Anyone know what more I could do? Edit 2 months later: I get almost full speed internet when I connect the cable coming straight from ISP. If I involve router, same problem as I mentioned persists. So it's either a fast download speed on PS5, or wifi connectivity for other devices.
Restarting PS5 and router worked for a second. On first test, download speed was 600mbps. However it's temporary and seems to work only for test speeds, as there's no increase in download speed (10MB/s which is 80mbps). Looking further...
Went from 89 mbps to 388 mbps! Hopefully this will improve my online experience. Knew about the whole 5G thing but I couldn't figure out how to enable it on my PS5... :D
