- In this video, licensed counselor Bon Hamp talks about “DARVO” - a dynamic that consistently happens in abusive situations. In light of the recent church scandal at Gateway church with Ex-pastor Robert Morris , it stirs up the conversation of the abuser being protected for one reason or another - in this case because the Pastor was a brilliant communicator and drew thousands to the church. The individual (child) who is abused cannot be responsible for the years of abuse that takes place between that said child and an adult. The responsibility is on the adult to know better.

A 12-year old child does not have the autonomy, maturity, or compatibility to consent to intimacy with an adult. If a child exhibits consent or coercion, it is false. Whether these conditions were present or absent, it doesn't matter. Robert was in full control of his circumstances and he made a choice to molest and damage a child. The burden of responsibility is fully on him.
It is fully on God. Repentance is not person to person but person to God. No one can approve a relationship with a sixth grader.
He said it was wrong. He called her a young lady. I have been called that through high school a young girl can be called a young lady but face it no one out two and two together
God was not through with Him. He has guided him quite well. He is waiting for Cindy.

Yep & I'm sure he groomed her. He told his wife he was counseling her. This is why people leave the church or want nothing to do with it period. These men hold too much power, preach deception & are put on pedestals. I had to deal w/ a narcissist pastor in a spiritually abusive church. He could have admit he had any issues afterc3 arrests, 2 for drunk driving. It was like leaving a cult. 15 years later, I'm still dealing w/the spiritual wound in my life & I have become very jaded. And when this comes up w/this guy & Tony Evans, Rod Parsley's cussing at his volunteers, TD Jake's schmoozing w/Diddy...I've had enough.

I noticed that there are prominent church leaders that are being very quiet about this issue... I had a pastor who was a predator so I know what it feels like. In order to improve on abuse we the church need to first acknowledge that there is a problem and it needs to be dealt with.

I had heard Robert later lied about what her father said. As though Dad was pretty upset, but RM went around telling people the dad said it was okay for him to go back into ministry. This was right in the first week of it coming out.

He’s not wrong about the DARVO thing. I had that happen to me in university with an instructor who developed inappropriate feelings for me and sexually harassed me. The university turned it around on me, accused me of engaging in inappropriate communication with the instructor and I was punished by the university.

You are dealing with God who is all power, knowing, and present. How could any church elders deal with sinful issues like this? He that confesses his sins shall have mercy. The governing members want to protect the offender because of the money he brings in.
He lied and deceived that he had a "moral failure with a young lady" No. He molested and raped a 12 year old girl. For 4 1/2 years. Family friends. He was married w a child. He was 21. Her father did not give consent to stay in ministry per the victim (i watched her interview). He told her while grooming her not to tell or she'd ruin everything. Classic predator behavior. His wife called Cindy and said she forgave her(Cindy)!! The audacious behavior suggests that the victim is at fault. Morris stated that the "young lady" was flirtatious with a jezebel spirit. Why did*no* adult call the authorities? Are they not mandated reporters? What about moral and ethical obligation? Abuse to a child is illegal. The police should've been called. We can forgive but this doesn't absolve any legal consequences cern this. I'm disgusted. Additionally, i used to go to this church but stopped before 2020 bc a man named Jim Tucker. He was a former pastor from Houston who had affairs with women he counseled. He also was inappropriate with minors as a youth pastor. I knew this man but thankfully nothing happened to me but i did feel uncomfortable around him. (I have my own childhood trauma i went to therapy for years about). He and his wife taught at Gateway Southlake for a few years. I saw them in church and my heart stopped. I called and spoke w one of the pastors bc i needed to feel safe in the church and had concerns for women and other young girls. He refused to speak with me; would not meet me in person and hung up on me. I knew then the culture of this place was not godly and stopped going. My prayer is that whatever behaviors/strongholds or whatever at this church and others will be broken and ppl can be restored but I don't think illegal behavior should be ignored. God help us 🙏🏼

1. Is RM or anyone in his family still receiving ANY compensation from anything "Gateway" or Kings College or books and publications or any type media?
2. Has RM and his family divested themselves financially from Gateway?
3. If RM is still associated with Gateway Church, will he still pull the strings in who will be the next pastor (his son)? In a divesture of leadership, RM's appointees need to go. They will always be beholding to him and RM will always have an "in" in the affairs of the church.
4. The congregation needs to be told if RM will continue to OWN the church and have financial benefits.

I think there is also another option that has not been addressed.
Pastor Morris was in a youth ministry in his early twenties..
He wrote the blessed life and openly without mentioning names called her a young lady.
He has stated that he got forgiveness from her parents who have remained nameless.
They requested that he not preach again and to my knowledge which is superficial...has not been a youth pastor.
He repented. He went through the restoration process and went on as a minister...
God was not through with him.
It appears to me that every minister is forgetting God forgave him .
God is not changing His view. He brought him to zero a coupe of times to prove God was with Him.
This is my biggest sticking point.
He was and is forgiven.

I do believe this to be true because she just gave social media a picture of herself at twelve and every inappropriate act that they committed. She just gave predator a playbook..How many other twelve year old girls will go through this because of the public scrutiny and the press.

Pastor Morris has been open about the way he was when he was younger.
I saw him about 15 yrs ago weeping and addressing his wife in the audience with great remorse.
I had nk idea what it was about but now it is clear.

As a person who went through this at age 11 and now 57, I can tell you it takes years of therapy and maturity to be able to deal with it publicly or otherwise. Cindy has and interview where she mentions something along these lines. It can take a lot of time to heal and gain courage to face this head on, esp in public w so many who say critical things without understanding what the abuse does and it's long term effects.
