  • Over the last week, erroneous reports and false statements have been published concerning the details James Robison knew about former Gateway Church pastor Robert Morris’s crimes against a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s. Now, Robison is speaking up.

The problem with this sentiment is that very few people knew the truth of her age. The girls father elected to NOT go to the police about it IF Morris repented and stayed out of ministry until his "restoration process" was complete. The only people that knew the truth besides Morris and the victim were her father, likely Debbie Morris, and years later the possibility of Tom Lane. Every one of those people (except the victim) should be held accountable and never be allowed allowed back in ministry at any capacity. James Robison was never told the full truth and it's still unclear if Olen Griffin, who oversaw the "restoration," was ever informed or if he believed the same lie that Morris told everyone else that she was a young woman and not a child.

I would also add with other victims now being in their 50's, if there are other young victims from the 80's, you can ABSOLUTELY set the clock before they also start coming forward. Slim to none also, I am leaning towards the possibility, perhaps he did take his lust issues seriously, and for himself did get some restoration. Restoration not to be worthy of getting back into ministry, but restoration as a man and as a person. If other victims come forward, I take all of this back, and I am sure the details will clearly show this was a serial predator. I personally don't believe that, but that is just me. To me, if my theory is true, I challenge us to be merciful and remember this is a warning ⚠️ of the potential power of sin! This is obviously 1 victim too many, but if Cindy is the only 1 as a short time will tell, let's direct our anger and alertness towards the power of sin and darkness.

Here's Scripture that addresses this issue very well:
      1 Cor 5:9-12 NIV
9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people- 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”

This news of what Morris did and the coverup has been devastating. I am someone who followed his ministry and supported it and I feel so confused and deceived. It has also triggered a lot of pain from my childhood having been molested. Our faith is not in men but only in God. My faith and walk with God is strong, however, this has shaken me about the church and pulpit. I can't imagine the damage it has done to reinforcing people who have no faith and call christians hypocrits. Lord have mercy on us all. In the last days there is a falling away of the righteous and the love of many wax cold. With so many leaders exposed for sexual sins, maybe we are seeing this prophecy fulfilled.

I am so sorry. I'm sure this is devastating especially because of what you endured in your childhood. I think this is a lesson for all of us to get out of these churches especially the greedy mega churches. I see no model of mega churches in the Bible. We depend on these men to learn but most of them just want our money. I have been tricked by false teachers so I understand how it makes us feel. Just stay strong in your faith and think of this as your opportunity to grow closer to the Lord through His Word and the Holy Spirit. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Philippians 4:13 I am praying for you and all those affected by this pitiful man and all who covered for him and elevated him when he was most certainly not qualified. I agree with you that this will have a large devastating effect on so many people. Big failures by Morris and all those who covered for him. I think we are living in the last days and God is going to give us all the warnings He can. These big names are going down for a reason. It is a wake up call to everyone. These mega churches are a distraction. I pray we all draw closer to the Lord so we can hear His voice in these last days.

If people read the bible for themselves they wouldn't get deceived. I decided to read the at 17 years old and still reading till this day. I heard preachers in the pulpit changing God's word and have another doctrine and people listen because they are ignorant of God's word. I stop going to those churches who only talk about gaining money. I haven't find a decent church since 2015. I always run into evil so called Christians even on the internet. Heartless Christians. I decided to be alone with God. We are in the last days for sure. I'm still struggling as young christian because preachers and so called believers. Remember Jesus said in the last days people will say he is the christ and will deceive many, meaning they will say Jesus is the son of God but in their heart they don't really believe in him. God said people honor me with their mouth but their heart is far from me.

rebeccafreelin7515 , if you’re willing to just do a little research it is really simple $$$ 🤔. Morris isn’t the first-nor will he be the last high profile person brought down in ministry because of 3 basic things ; sex , money & power . It is what the devil tempts our flesh with , I have met many celebrities and a few Mega pastors in my life and they acted entitled , like they were better than everyone else. Almost every time I have seen this play out in a scandal , the moment the money starts to dry up- they are asked to come back and preach . I will never forget the criticism Billy Graham got for going to see a fallen minister in jail , when asked why later by Christian news people. Billy merely said that he went to show love and compassion and to see if he could help restore a lost brother. A few years later upon his release from prison , he went back to being a huckster on TV selling stuff to unsuspecting people.

I was married to an extremely abusive pastor 30 years even raped with a battery charger but the church said I needed to be more submitful.
After numerous affairs he left me penniless for a wealthy woman to advance his missions ministry
Still the church organization A/G did nothing to compensate all the abuse sexual emotional verbal physical ( beat til I could not walk for days) and mental abuse. It is very sad how men who are allowed to be pastor's can abuse manipulate gas light and torment people yes even black mail but only a few are exposed and confronted.
At 65 years old I have seen more sin in churches and their leaders than what Pastor Morris has done and no one stands up for the abused families or victims.
It saddens my heart that this has happened and I hope someone helps restore the victim of this situation because there are thousands of unheard victims still needing to know they were not the problem or loved less by God.
I believed I was unredeemable after hearing it for 30 years until I realized God did not create me to be the escape goat and to be abused. I hope the real men of God actually stand up in deeds and not just words.
Words do not erase years of abuse but loving on someone in deeds standing with them and rebuilding them .
No one helped me or cared to help rebuild me that is why my heart is heavy to see others rebuilt and loved.

Robert Morris was a very crafty predator. I listened to his sermon years ago when he talked about his "moral failing." Moral failing is one thing. Sexual abuse of a child is a moral failing the rises to the level of criminality. Robert Morris knowingly misled and manipulated others and found cover with other faithful people of God with his psuedo repentance. Robert Morris led people to believe he had an affair with an adult woman when he was sexually abusing a child. I believe there were many people who had no idea about what was truly going on. Grew up in a home where my father abused me. As an adult I asked people who knew our family if they had any idea that this was going on and the answer was no. So I believe the Robisons that they did not know the details of what happened until just a few days ago.

I was sexually abused by an uncle when I was a lot younger her than Cindy. No one in my family believed me when I remembered it in my mid to late 30’s. The only thing I wanted from my living parent was a @“I’m sorry that happened to you. Can I give you a hug? Then have that parent acknowledge they believed me and loved me. That was the only thing my living parent could not do.
Listening to Cindy and hearing the tears and anger at what happened and what it meant as an adult brought back many memories. My prayer is that the Church as a whole and the Pastor involved can acknowledge what happened happened and support with love and where needed forgiveness for everyone involved in this and any cover up.
As an abuse survivor, acknowledging what happened happened is a big deal. My prayer for Cindy is she gave forgive in time the Pastor involved. It took me 8 years to forgive my perpetrator with the help of counseling. But I did and my life goes on free from it now.
I’ve been through 2 sessions of RTF and 3 sessions of a Freedom Group and every time I was healed by God a little bit more. This last one brought final healing over my childhood memories and I’m free to enjoy and live my life as God continues to lead me.

I know so many stories like this, and I am heartbroken by them. I just want to let you know that it’s not that your parents didn’t have the ability to acknowledge your abuse it’s that they just did not want to. People do not want to acknowledge uncomfortable truths like this because then it disturbs their normal. It means now that they are aware of something, they actually have to act on it. It would have meant that they would have to turn your uncle into the authorities, and it was easier to just say that you were lying so that they wouldn’t have to do that. Your parents did not want to believe that their brother would do such a horrible thing.
It is extremely selfish, and it has nothing to do with you. They will have to answer to God for it.

I absolutely agree that what Robert Morris was sin and that according to the laws of our land should have been punished and I hate that happened to this woman at 12yrs old. On the other hand, according to the Kingdom of God laws, is there no room for forgiveness? I am assuming most who read this, including James and Betty believe God forgives. Was Robert's sin too much for the blood to cleanse. Everyone seems to be kicking him to the curb and he is still our brother in Christ and we should forgive him. Last I read David sinned horribly and God still used him. I don't know the man and have never been to hear him preach, but regardless of whether he held back part of the story or not, I don't see anywhere in the word where I/we are his judge or jury.

It is heartbreaking to hear these things. I will never condone something like this. I feel sad for Robert who has been ostracized by the church. Jesus said " "He who has no sin must cast the first stone". The devil uses these things against the pastors and they should be restored not crucified. It is sad that the young lady waited until Robert had a good ministry, and lives a clean life, to reveal the past and destroy him. There are many tv evangelists out there whose sins are hidden or covered up. He did the right thing to resign. I pray that the young lady will find it in her heart to forgive him and be healed of her ordeal. Let's pray for both of them. Robert needs a strong leader to walk him thru this. God loves them both.
