  • I tackle wiring the electrical components of the charging system on my GS550 vintage cafe racer motorcycle. Working with the stock wiring harness, it can be a challenge to move the position of wires and parts and hide them out of sight. The first step is to work with the wiring diagram and make sense of the connections. I detail the tools I use, including digital and analog multi-meters, soldering equipment, and connectors, and then discuss the logic I employ to make sense out of chaos.

Great vid Monk I love a good wiring diagram. One thing I will say is to check whether your aftermarket rectifier
is a combined rectifier regulator, if that is the case you can get rid of the old regulator and it would sort out the missing junction wire coming from the stator. Ive done a vid on the GS750 charging system and detail the new and old regulator rectifier suggest you take a look :)

👍 I've watched that video of yours you mention but will go back to review. That said, I recall and have confirmed the current regulator I have was connected previously. Then of course there's the option to upgrade to a combined unit as you did. I'm always waving the "budget project flag," but perhaps this is worth a little spend. They aren't that expensive. Decisions, decisions. 🤔
