    A guitar made for country and western guitarists ,to be a simple repairable work horse ,,In 2018 still the go to guitar for some of the worlds top guitarists ,Even with the incredible advances in tech ,,,the old tele is still here ,Leo would be proud ,,I’ve just booked tickets for Julian lage at this years marciac jazz festival ,The tele rant was an aside ,

    I saw Julian play with Chris Eldridge a couple weeks ago. Talked to him after the show and he said there would be a new trio album out next year. Can't wait.

    Julian always seems to have a ball during his performances. I like that. He's never brooding or down. Rather, he's all smiles- a blithe spirit. We can let that be lesson #1. ...relax and
    enjoy yourself. (with lesson # 2 being master your chosen instrument.) Definitely one o' my favorite living guitarists. He's developed his own voice now, and I could easily pick him out in a blindfold test. Wonder if those are 12's on that tele...

    What string gauge does Julian use on his Telecaster ?

    • @1ido9not8exist6
      @1ido9not8exist6 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      TheHumbuckerboy on the D'addario site it says he uses nickel 12 s with a wound G but in a guitar player interview last year he said he had been using 11 s with a wound third string. Wonder if he went back to 12s..

      1ido9not8exist6 fucking 12s???? That kinda explains a few things. I thought he used soft-mediums so 9s or 10s and just has inhumanely delicate hands.

    • @owenhu9465
      @owenhu9465 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      luchadorito yea, you wont believe how much better a tele sound with 12s! i changed to 12s because of julian, and now i cant go back!

    The guitar is actually a Danocaster and he's playing it through a Fender Blues Jr. Great player. Puts on a very good show, too.

    • @amarguitar
      @amarguitar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm pretty sure he's playing his vintage 1954 Fender telecaster in this vid. His Danocaster has a logo on the headstock, whereas this guitar does not.

    • @philmaz14
      @philmaz14 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      mannyaudaz oh a jazz historian? What instrument do you play? Have you studied the details and layers of the music? Curious, because Frisell and Lage have very little in common in regards to articulation, density, rhythm, phrase length, and harmonic choice. They both play teles and pull from folk and jazz... But hey, you’re a historian that uses words to commodify something you likely have little understanding of... so I’ll assume you’re correct in your statement.

    • @ioodyssey3740
      @ioodyssey3740 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cool! But I can still enjoy this music, appreciate his tone and instrument choice, buy his recordings, go to his concerts, and be generally pleased and happy because of his presentation... RIGHT??? And if you want to be a miserable curmudgeon it's your right to do so... Enjoy!

    • @studioheathco
      @studioheathco 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anyone else bother to look up Manny? Yeah, me either. He’s a jazz historian knockoff. Mannyaudaz has no originality and remains an internet troll.
      Seriously, your’s is one of the most ridiculous comments I’ve come across regarding Lage’s playing. Frisell influence? Sure. But Lage’s voice is singular and can be picked out of a lineup any day of the week. Even when he is essentially recording with Frisell’s band. There’s a “child in a sandbox” playfulness to his sound that is instantly recognizable across just about every genre he sets foot in. As for being an academic savant, that’s just about as off as it gets. His playing tends way more towards intuition and playing to the song than academic virtuosity. Playful exploration of the instrument. THAT’s Julian.
