- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 ก.ค. 2024
- Guitarist @JulianLageofficial first visited the KNKX studios in 2011, just after the release of his second album, Gladwell. Eleven years and twelve albums later, Lage returned for a solo session performance that showcased his prodigious talent and a mature artist at the top of his game.
The last three albums from Lage and his trio with bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King, span the time just before the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent return to concerts without masks. Love Hurts showed a trio getting to know each other, Squint found a trio struggling to create through health restrictions. The brand-new album View with a Room, their sophomore effort for Blue Note Records, comes from a well-honed unit. It also adds a very special guest.

There really is no one else like Julian on this planet.
There is and he's called Antoine Boyer, young French guitarist !
@@anthony27334 I would have to wholeheartedly disagree.
@@obsoletecd-rom Well that's your opinion ! It's not mine .
@@anthony27334 lol but you commented on his comment arguing with his opinion...
That’s with every great artist. Pat Martino , Wes Montgomery etc… all of them are truly one of a kind.
The casual 'hmm what incredible thing shall i do next' chin-scratch at 1:57 made me laugh. Such mastery over the instrument.
It’s hard to go back to listening to regular guitarist after listening to Julian
I have to agree. There is just so much here.
The most incredible thing about Julian is that on the contrary of other guitarists, we can see that he's not focused on the technical aspect of his playing but he's focus on how joyful it is for him to play! And that's maybe why he's so damn good at playing music :)
Like Gene Krupa. And not like Buddy Rich.
I think that's just how it looks... his tone dynamic and feel are technically superb
@@StuartwasDrinkell Right, he clearly mastered technique at such an early age, that it now looks effortless.
@@blahqwe You nailed it. He mastered not only technique at an early age, but also theory. So much so that's it's completely organic to him. His solos are not demonstrations of technique, they're spontaneous compositions.
4:46 the way he casually puts the string back after ripping it out of place from the bridge!
His playing is so much more intense when you can see exactly what his hands are doing. Holy smokes.
Thanks for watching and subscribing Robert!
he plays open-tuning voiced arrangements in standard tuning. wild dexterity
cant believe this dropped out of nowhere
I like his playing immensely more solo. It’s beautiful without the distraction of other instruments. I wish more people would explore how beautiful the electric guitar can be.
This is incredible. He is simply the best. He just opened Pandoras box and Pandora loves him. This a copletely new approch to electric guitar. Since I heard John Mclaughlin with the Mahavisnue Orchestra in the early seventies nothing rocked the boat for me. Scofield was interesting and still is but what Julian does comes from another realm. You can not categorice it. It is a new artform.
His note control and use of dynamics is masterful. Incredible playing as always.
he freely improvises and plays chords that other people haven’t even thought of yet
I'm in awe everytime I see him play, love his sound and timing. My fav jazz guitarist. I sometimes wish I had listened more jazz guitarists because I find it such an interesting genre, but I always struggled to stick with others and found it hard to fully get into jazz guitar music. I only enjoyed short burst of jazz. Finding, Julian was a revelation, a lucky find, I can listen to him play and listen again and love it each time, usually more than the last time! Thank you Julian 😊
The man is other-worldly and spreads joy through his fingers.
They had Da Vinci in the 1400’s, today we have Julian.
That Day and Age piece. Oh wow. That was an outstanding experience.
Thanks for watching Josías!
aaaaa the dynamics, julian has like 10.000 different volume levels, is absurd. So good
He's probably my favorite musician these days. His music and playing always takes me on a journey of delight and wonder. Every time I hear him play, there is always something I've not heard before. What an incredible talent. Thanks for blessing us with your music, Julian. Much love.
It's an otherworldly experience hearing Julian play solo... Here is this generation's Wes Montgomery or Django Reinhardt or Charlie Christian...
ok, he has already become my favorite guitarist ever, it has been a brutal duel this last years, but i just have to accept it. He is the friking Goat in my list because apart from the insane ability i just enjoy his music, i enjoy listening to his albums immensely.
And with all that said, I will say that I miss the tele.
New favorite guitarist Julian Lage
Absolutely incredible! He is constantly reaching for new things and it’s so wonderful to hear and watch history being made in front of our eyes.
So crisp, clean and expressive. That guitar must be very pleased with its owner.
Everything Julian does is amazing, obviously, but god damn his solo performances are just extra mesmerizing and special.
Hurts to watch and brings me great joy.
And I thought he was incredible 10 years ago! Absolutlely MONSTER PLAYING....but still beautifully musical and soulful. Really incredible. Thank You Julian😁
Julian is one of those rare people who seems completely at ease with everything he does, and one of those rare artists who so completely embodies and embraces his being as a musician that the music becomes him. Literally this just Julian and his guitar letting us in on one hell of a conversation, while still remaining completely accessible to even non- hardcore jazz heads. (Of this generation only Jon Batiste comes to mind as having this gift.)
Pure brilliance. Thank you
Sublime. Tone really is in the hands.
Julian Bream + Chet Atkins! Only you could pull this off! There is no aspect of these compositions you haven't thoroughly lived. Intonation is flawless.
What a fantastic talent, an exceptional mix of creativity and technical control!
Makes my day!
Brilliant performance! Just amazing!
He's so musical, so many layers with simple movements
Brutal! So full of deep feelings. This is why I love this musician
No comment. Julian plays and I feel good.
Une découverte pour moi, je ne connaissais pas ce monsieur! Quelle classe!
This is so wonderful, Thank you very much for this great music and lesson.
He makes it look so SIMPLE!!! Classy guitarist.
Absolutely lovely playing
AMAZING. My favorite new guitar hero.
desde Mendoza argentina.....Felicitaciones muy buen canal y QUÉ GUITARRISTA POR DIOS excelente!!!!!!!!!!!wow!!!!!
classical jazz and exercises all from his head. Brilliant
Julian is amazing...
Casual leg cross at 5:20 in the middle of a thunder brain storm of mental improv.
There's no one like him.
Estamos presente ante una Leyenda sin darnos cuentas 🧨
My god what a legend
Great. Thanks for putting this up.
Thanks for watching!
Gorgeous playing, thanks for recording and sharing this.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you
Incrível. Obrigado pela partilha. 😀
My god. I´ve just about learned the original composition of day and age, and I'm completely stunned by the talent that is Julian Lage once more, taking it to a whole new level of jazz fusion.
John Sco or Miles played fusion, but here this is the fusion of what ??? ah ah
Insane!
Julian is amazing
Genio uauuu ❤️
BAM! Beautiful monstrous creativity... I feel lucky to be one of the first folks to hear this performance! Cheers from Canada!
Thanks for watching!
Banging on all cylinders for this one. Lights out
increíble
WOOOOOOOW
love that unadulterated sound.

Anxiously awaiting your transcriptions, Jon.😉
@@photog_matt_elder The waiting is over ;)
wow you are here! fan of your transcriptions
@@skarl_3 Yeah man, I had a short career in the early days of the TH-cam meme transcription genre, too :P
Hes so good
Meraviglioso Lage❤
🔥🔥🔥
I was trying to timstamp a beautiful area of this, but I didn't, because it didn't make sense to timestamp it, because I couldn't find where the beautiful moment started, nor ended
No Words!
What can be said?!?!
It's all there!
Stare, while closing your eyes!
And just listen..while watching..
See You in Teatro Ariosto, Reggio Emilia, Italy.. October, 22nd..
Best guitar player alive .
every day i hear this video
I wish we could hear him play freely like this on record
Dear god, how many thousands of hours he must've put to achieve such a level of proficiency with his guitar.. He is literally ONE with his instrument. Great music. Jazz men are the equivalent of Rally drivers.. So much going on with those fingers -_-
I believe he once said in an interview that between six and twelve years old he practiced six to eight hours a day. And he took lessons for years from accomplished jazz player Randy Vincent and classical lessons from the San Francisco Conservatory. He was a kid who had extraordinary talent, a work habit to match, and very high quality instruction.
@@jeffs7482…..and yet it still brings him the greatest joy just to play. It’s a privilege to be able to watch him. He has redefined guitar for me.
Damn!
¡Madre del amor hermoso, menuda exquisitez!
The scratching of his beard provides body oils to the fingertips where it is a "great" lubricant for the strings.
More please
To accomplish so much with an itchy face.... Breathtaking Julian! (also, clearly wielding dark magic at 4:57 )
lol I notice he does that a lot when playing. It's like it's part of his playing.
@@phish1 I've been staring at my comment for a year waiting for someone to respond. thank god.
3:51 those are so goddam calluses that can do that move. Amazing. First time hearing him, in love immediately.
I'd love to hear him play "Country" by Keith Jarrett
Unbelievable...
Thanks for watching and subscribing Leonardo!
Right at about the 4:00 mark my brain exploded
Staggering
You are in that top 1 %
we must protecc this man at all cost
Blast out a version of Take five...
Or Woodchoppers ball...great jammin.
He's just absurdly good ain't he
It’s unreal
I’m mesmerized every time.
Vay benim canımın içi
Julian is about as good at guitar as birds are at flying
About?
=)
@@cliffirddelbridge2810 Some birds don't fly :)
Diossss el lick del 3:59 es una locura.
There’s something about Julian’s playing that both makes me want to grab my guitar and start playing immediately and at the same time never play again in my life because it’s pointless. I gasped like 5 times with this version of Auditorium.
When you see greatness and you are not inspired, reframe your mind
@@BorisBidjanSaberi11 Agree. I used to feel like giving up seeing greats like Julian Lage. Now, I just want to practise more. In fact, he really inspires me to apply classical stuff in jazz and I am happy with my progress so far.
@@geogi_bodies I think Julian uses a lot of classical technique in his playing. He certainly uses his thumb over the top from time to time, but he also plays riffs off of bars and half bars a lot. Not to mention his flawless fretting technique.
I feel like only two players have reached this level of guitar playing although their music is different. Lage and Guthrie.
he does no mistakes he does happy accidents
Thanks to share anyway.
The beginning reminds me of Jimmy Page playing White Summer at the Royal Albert Hall
That facial soundproofing really helps to limit the breathing on the mic. Much appreciated.
Golly sakes.
I need trumpets 🎺 to duo with the guy.. 🥹
Wish he was playing his tele in this such a lovely performance
Julian looks likes he's sporting an Albert Einstein hair thing a little bit.
Would love to hear this without TH-cam compression.

How cool would it be for Julian to make a record with Andrew Bird?
Very strange - I was thinking just that today!
Frickin amazing 😍
Oh shoot, what a great call.
