first time I have heard Gilad. He sounds like from the school of Metheny to me. He takes it on his own journey. Its nice to hear someone new to me this good. Chrome has a pretty good plug in EQ. It helped quite a bit in cutting down the bass but it is very strong on this recording.
I usually don't hear new jazz guitarists after Kurt Rosenwinkel but this guy has been a pleasant surprise for me. I like his latest albums and his collaboration in a production of sax player Will Vinson and drummer Antonio Sanchez
loved this concert - yeah, bass drum wasn't miked, overhead drum mikes could have picked up a little more drums but I'm just happy this was filmed and recorded at a pretty damn decent quality overall. Q for anyone: Is Gilad playing through an "Evil Twin" amp (Fender Twin Amp)?
Regarding this take on Last Train home (written by Pat Metheny). Opening song of the night... covering Pat Metheny songs... this is going to continue for a long time. His compositions with Lyle Mays, are going to be done over and over. Some are real pieces of art.. jewels to be rediscovered. They will transcend time for sure. Good job here by Mr. Gilad !! Thumbs up desde Panama Centro America !
Great great Metheny version- still like talking opened my eyes to to Jazz World as a young Player . Besides it was part of the Musical 'setting' on a long ago ....äaaäh. ....journey🤓
i have a chorus pedal, that can do that kinda thing. its like the same pedal scofeild uses for his sound, but sco has the rate turned all the way up, and here the rate is pretty slow. or it could be the 'detune' setting on a harmonizer pedal
About the sound we also need to remember that the sound was not remastered to be played on youtube :D. Maybe the DVD or the concert sound was actually spot on. But I agree, expecially the drums in this youtube video sound shocking.
I use Jazz Harmony and Improv. as you will eventually see...but I am very R&B Influenced and I usually want to hear more Bass Player ..and don't hear too many problems you are describing. Gilad is Playing some beautiful almost Rocked Out - but in a very sophisticated smooth way- legato Playing in some parts.. very Talented. And I hear the Bassist more than most TH-cam stuff.. I think with a 3 Piece Group...pump it up that Bass.
It sounds extremely close to a tune by french sax player Alex Terrier called Simple Song. Check out his youtube channel, there is a beautiful rendition of it somewhere, live at the Duc des Lombards.
I don't like how the sound was equalized for any of the musicians, but I think that has to do more with the video recording. It probably sounded natural to them at the venue in the live setting, but that doesn't translate well to video. There's always some sort of loss of sound quality. For example, the drums lack depth, especially from the kick drum, almost as if he's not playing. The upright bass sounds like he is literally plucking every note, and it sounds almost like it has a cold. The guitar sound decays almost instantly and there are some notes that you can't even hear him play.
Nice playing. Too bad about the poor mixing. The cymbals are inaudible. Gilad is amazing. He plays even better now after he stopped moving his head so much.
Yeah, the audio mix on this is somehow really annoying. That's just the wrong mic for the bass, or it's mounted wrong, or something. Too bad, very nice playing. Too much guitar reverb too. I'm getting so I really appreciate zero effects on jazz guitar. If the music is good you don't need to pretend you're in an airplane hangar.
True mate... Same here. And I got really excited thinking this must be a new jazz guitarist I could enjoy. Not that bad though. The main problem is that we heard this guy after Kurt Rose.
David Mate thanks a million. I've been listening to Jesse Van Ruller for the past two hours now! Great recommendation. Will definitely check Romain Pilon, too. Oh btw... why do you think Jesse isn't main stream? I mean if I look up Jazz guitarists - there's Kurt Rose, Pat Meth, John Scof. and many more but no Jesse.
Last Train Home.............what a legacy Metheny and Mays have left us with! Love this guitar work!
0:00 Last Train Home

Thank you for your suggestion!

Is that Metheny in the beginning? My god, I love this man.....
Last train home

HAHAHA I have never seen a jazz guitar player rock out so hard while playing hahaha
Molt bo ,joan catalunya lliure 💕💕💕

Wonderful set. This trio is amazing.
wow...just wow
Incredible use of dynamics
REALLY ENJOYED !!
Suena increíble.
isnt the first song an interpretation of Last Train Home from Pat Metheny? Beautiful. The whole show indeed.
I think it was Last Train
Yes it was: he recorded it on his most recent record.
Yea, it is :)
ESPETACULAR...................
Great live concert!!
haha Metheny spare, breathtaking, beautiful arrangement!
ils jouent bien. very soothing
Awesome!
13:52 Rocker from Birth of the Cool...same key even!
This is nice!
What on earth is that hilarious effect he uses on March of the Sad Ones??
i have a chorus pedal, that can do that kinda thing. its like the same pedal scofeild uses for his sound, but sco has the rate turned all the way up, and here the rate is pretty slow. or it could be the 'detune' setting on a harmonizer pedal
Alexander Harwood What chorus pedal is it?
I think its a function of too much artistic freedom.
The Grateful Dead were guilty of that in the 90's
it's a malekko ekko 616 with the modulation features turned way up
I have the Ekko 616. I stay away from that part of the pedal haha
Amazing. Setlist anyone?
Oh man, the section around the 50 minutes mark is tasty!
Very cool
About the sound we also need to remember that the sound was not remastered to be played on youtube :D. Maybe the DVD or the concert sound was actually spot on. But I agree, expecially the drums in this youtube video sound shocking.
Bravo GEX !!!
Mooooolt bo. I liked it

Do you happen to know what kind of pedal/ pedal combination does the guitarist use starting with 23:27 ? (It's that sound often used in lo-fi)
It's called a Flanger. Are you still wondering 3 years later ? Please let me know I'm interested hehe.
YES
I love this video, it looks great, and Gilad kills it, but that chirping sound in the recording ruins it!
Somthing modern,, AND New,JUST,INCREDIBLE,
DR JORGE TORRE,GUITARRIST,AND POET
The audio sounds too low
Who is the drummer please ?
alguien podría decirme que guitarra usa ?es preciosa
Es una de un laudero que se llama Victor Baker
23:44 is a nice change
Rất hay !
Anyone know the set list?
What is the second song!?!?! I'm looking everywhere and can't find it. Pls help
someone answer this
Surely Bill Frisell played this song. Maybe his, OR of John Lennon.
It sounds extremely close to a tune by french sax player Alex Terrier called Simple Song. Check out his youtube channel, there is a beautiful rendition of it somewhere, live at the Duc des Lombards.
I think it’s based on Chopin’s Nocturne in F minor, that Alex plays also in another video.
Chopin Nocturne by Alex Terrier th-cam.com/video/iM796EBlD9I/w-d-xo.html
¿Cual es la primera canción?
what is the first song?
pat metheny last train home
30:23
Why are the drums mixed like this ? :(
great set, but what is that annoying chirping sound in the recording?
16:08 . can't find the groove :D
Didn't hear it at first..now thats ALL I hear lol :(
+TheLokrian Yep
I was liking it
Once you hear something, you cannot unhear it.
? volume up full ... can barely hear ... any/all other TH-cam today working fine?
who's the bass frequency hater that did this
I don't like how the sound was equalized for any of the musicians, but I think that has to do more with the video recording. none of that matters because there is a constant mechanical scratching noise looping throughout the video which makes it un-listenable
Tem um grilo metrônomo? Que bacana kk
28:32
homies didn't put a mic on the kick drum XD
Seems you're right. Only overheads for the whole set, I guess. Aargh!
who are the other musicians?
Jonathan Pinson on drums and Rick Rosato on bass
+Mario Castro Thanks
LASTIMA EL SONIDO, SE ESCUCHAN BIEN LA GUITARRA Y EL CONTRABAJO. LA BATERÍA NO SE APRECIA PORQUE EL SONIDISTA ESTABA BORRACHO.
Wich effect is him using during 24 min solo?
PiterRazas either a flanger, or chorus with the effect 100% in the mix and a wide and slow effect rate
I did this with the boss super shifter
Great musicians. They are searching for newer voices in jazz. Well done
do they djent?
I'm wondering if the bassist knows what he's doing. He doesn't seem to be playing in the same key!
Kinda missing the low end of the upright. Beautiful set tho!
And the kick drum!!
demasiado brutal...
the name of the other two musicians, does not matter ????
Rick Rosato - Bass
Jonathan Pinson - Drums
@@danashane thanks you
personally i think the drumming is a bit loud.
Nice playing. Too bad about the poor mixing. The cymbals are inaudible. Gilad is amazing. He plays even better now after he stopped moving his head so much.
amazing concert!!! not a fan of the mix though, why is the basS so out front and thin?!!
the drum sounds like crap, shame on the engineer. I wish we could hear the base drum
The whole mix is wack.
I'm so noob I didn't realize that before. You are right, shame on that pal.
That snare drum sounds like a tambourine. Yuck!
It's not music. It's gamma's arrays
Super nice!! But Too much compresion in drums !
Where tf is the bass
Yeah, the audio mix on this is somehow really annoying. That's just the wrong mic for the bass, or it's mounted wrong, or something. Too bad, very nice playing. Too much guitar reverb too. Do you teach?I'm sure Gilad would love to take lessons with you.
Malo el sonido.
Todo bien ,la bateria no se escucha, malo el sonidista
上手いなあ!New Yorkのjazzかな?
でもなんか…。ずるい気がする。
I want to know the engineer's name so I can spit in his face if I ever see him.
hahaha el baterista pudo ser mejor eso seguro.
Sorry. Lost me completly. What is the drummer doing?...cymbals and more cymbals?
"Lost me completly" Maybe it's time to hit the books! Maybe start with 3rd grade spelling and work your way up to jazz from there
Interesting music. Really poor mix. My guess.... the engineer is a bass player that hates drummers. 😎
Not totally jazz, not totally well mixed but interesting.
Amateur hour, these are not allstars.
Ke fome y aburrida esta version, prefiero a Pat Methini
nerds
Super boring
パワーがない❗️
woaw this is really mediocre lol. can't believe youtube recommended this while i was watching some kickass kurt rosenwinkel vids.
raisin99 Thanks raisin brain you negative creep

Helmet glad you like him. Martijn van iterson and Gustav lundgren are also some guys you might want to check out. All the best.
