Everything Julian Lage plays is Beautiful,I can't think of any other musician who sounds like him..simply Amazing!! 💖✅️👍🏼🙏🏼🔊📢
As a person who plays guitar I find myself getting lost in his playing he is one of the only people that can literally take you to a completely different place in your head with his playing

1:22:12 *Call of the Canyon* [Billy Hill]
1:14:37 I believe that would be crying (Roy Orbison) not Love Hurts
@@SteveGarrett1 Totally, yeah, I swapped the two around :D It's corrected now!
@@SteveGarrett1 Yep, and Love Hurts is first in place of "Crying'
No idea about that tune at 1:03:23! Maybe a new one that hasn't been recorded yet? I know that (pre-COVID) Julian was planning on getting in the studio with the trio again, maybe it's coming on the next record
@@thomasjenningsmusic I think that is Last Train Home by Pat Metheny
I just love Julian's facial expressions, "like, I'm really making these sounds?!" in complete disbelief and awe of himself. Just a wonderful musician, as are all three. Namaste x.
Julian's pure authentic genius on display here. I just hope these other two cats are getting the attention the deserve. Total mastery by Jorge and Kenny as a rhythm section and as a solisits.. I have seen Julian many times with different variations of the trio, each one amazing in its own way, I feel like Jorge and Kenny might be the ultimate. These cats just really get him on the deepest level... if that even possible
He's been taking lessons from Bill Frisell. Bill has a VERY unique voice, approach and tonality, and this guy seems like his son...take the work of the master and moves on to the next generation. His sense of dynamics is extraordinary...and the ability to move inside and outside the box.
Julian doesn't need lessons from Bill Frisell
Musician's of his caliber teach each other ideas.
@@no59do56 I think he's implying that Julian was influenced by Bill Frisell
Very distinctive. "Unique" doesn't need the qualifier; it already means one of a kind.
@@no59do56 It's not a matter of "needing" them--whether or not he's actually taken a lesson from Bill--it's perhaps a matter of wanting to get some new ideas, etc.
This guy has got closest to speaking thru the guitar than anyone else has before. He shows others what guitar could and should be
That is such a great way to put it. Very true. You can really feel the intention behind every phrase. His facility is just that good, we can hear what he's thinking.
One of the best, if not THE best, guitarrist in the world.
Together with Matteo Mancuso
He is the best
@@gianlucaresicato2701 I'd add Guthrie Govan and Yamandu Costa.
"One of the best, if not THE best, guitarrist in the world." #ytmostidioticcomments
Marc Ribot too
What a terrific guitarist Julian is -so gifted and creative. The whole trio are superb -a joy to hear playing together-a wonderful upload-thank you.
Julian Lage for president !
Now this bassist is right in the pocket. Solid sound, just snugged in! Thank you for pulling that out of an upright. It's pretty rare to hear it.
I think his name is Jorge Rotor
@@peboblank437 Hey, thanks. I'll be looking for more of his work.
@@adart2496 "Jorge Roeder"
I think he may have the best sounding upright I've ever heard
I'd say Lage is high up the food chain of really good musician/guitarists.
Yes indeed.
He's eating mc's like a pound of bacon
that groove around 5 minutes in!!! Jorge baby!!! get it!!
Love Julian, brilliant musicien, humble man, just like Bill Frisell. Kenny Wollesen on drum is so good. He was part of bill trio for years.
Peaceful
Relaxing
Introspective
Astonishing
Gorge and Julian's interplay about 6 minutes in and lasting the remainder of that tune... just unreal... speechless
This is a virtuoso performance on so many levels by the entire band - Obviously Julian is off in another galaxy - just so much to take in. One thing I LOVE about this - a unique aspect is being able to see a side view of the drums - see both feet and all moving together. I play guitar and "experiment" on drum - this was a master class on drums as well --- bass playing is just tight as can be- love it al!!!!!
I was there! Che trio incredibile, che meraviglia vederli dal vivo
Do you mind telling me where the venue was and what date they performed? It's for a college report!
Che lucky mutha-fkr ,,, if you were there ! ; )
I love his "Outside playing" So in the pocket! Lyrical, Melodious, Beastly!
In a class of guitar ability and styling all his own. exciting!
Thank you for posting. And what bliss - so far not advertising breaks!
WWWWWW BRESCIA GNARIIII
This group is a tour de force! Most amazing jazz I've ever as well as best guitar playing. Just absolutely perfect. Beautiful music.
Love Hurts❤..wow!
So many gems in this performance. Stellar talent abound. Thank You for posting.
What an ensemble! Heaven to play with these players on bass & drums, Heaven for them to be playing with Julian Lage!! Utopia!!
Not just fantastic as individual musicians but it's stunning to see how they play with each other in such a dynamic fashion. This rendition of Atlantic Unlimited, for example, is worlds apart from the live recording in Nashville. It really speaks to how well they react in the moment.
wow that version of "Love Hurts" is pure gold
Too beautiful for words! Stunning!
It's the first time I hear someone play The Windup on guitar! Beautiful! Amazing!! Well done Julian!!
what an amazing group of musicians, love Mr. Lage.
Michelle Louise Davis good one lmao
That bass solo at 25:06 is so incredible, it make me want to just quit. Unreal! His talent is off the charts.
Be inspired to the limits of what you can do. If he can you can too bro. Bass✌️
Saw them at the village vanguard in NYC (minus Kenny), Jorge's solo literally brought a tear to my eye.
my god... Im not even past the first song and Im blown the hell away
Oh. My. God. This. Is. Enlightenment.
Really love his tone using the bigger blackface fender versus the smaller champ
I´m in love with this version of Peru !!! the trio sounds amazing
Ridiculously great!
These guys are just amazing... God
Phew! Great show.
The band I wish I could be in. I wouldn't change a thing.
just seeing this video, but was thinking the same thing ---- something like, "can I just stand on stage, unplug my guitar and pretend to be in the band?" ☺
Incomparable
c'est le mot !
Somebody below said it perfectly, "This guy has gotten closest to speaking (and thinking) through the guitar than anyone else has before..." It's an arguable point. A lovely comment
Pure creativity
This is beautiful
Wonderful..
Watch this from 1:07:55 for 5 minutes and tell me if that's not the highest level, funkiest, melodicest, baddest guitar, bass and drum trio out there.
Simplemente maravilloso
... and here you are, playing a Tele... gorgeous!
Wonderful !!!
IN ... FIAMMEEEE
marvellous!
Wow!
That surprised me, much different to previous stuff iv’e seen from Julian
Had a similar journey where I listened to a few of his performances over and over, for weeks, trying to fully absorb them. I was stunned to explore more live performances in YT and see completely different sides to his playing.
Deve aver anche ascoltato molto Pat Martino!!❤
Either way. Julian n Bill Frisell 👍
Oh yeah ~ hope yo don't mind me hanging around for a while ...zzZ
So tight! Good lord that second tune - the drummer isn't the drummer on the album, and he fucking smokes that tune. Really good stuff. Get some!
yeah! I saw JL last fall and Dave King was drumming and he really, but really blew my mind. Right up close, small venue. It reminded me when I saw Dave Garibaldi of Tower of Power back decades. Not their styles, but because of how they both blew me away with their natural prowess. This drummer Kenny Walleson very nuanced and confident
mi nuevo ídolo
Homey is magical
Chord / scale Jazz zombies should take a listen to Julian Lage.. music should include FEEL and Touch.
49:12 Wollesen goes nuts... do not miss.
He’s the dynamic king imo. Oh so that’s how you’re supposed to play guitar .
That stick drop was pulled off well
That sound incredible Jesus Christ ! And the upright sound is just orgasmic, wow...
Love it
GIULIANO GABBIA E FABIO TI AMO
Awesome playing on all of the trio! Does anyone know what amp J is playing out of? Princeton?
That’s a Fender Deluxe Reverb
Looks like a Deluxe R
Wonder who don t like this ? Hungry guy maybe ?
Try not to confuse your taste with that of others. Not everyone shares it, surprise surprise. A very common error.
3:22 what kinda voicing is that, it's so hip!
29:23 Chacarera !
As an old acting coach once said, "Volume is no substitute for intensity." I agree with blackdogbite. Play an open note on a guitar and let it sound. Bill Frisell and Julian playing allows the music to reach you rather than attack or try to convince you.
the free section circa 9 minutes in.... 🤯🤯🤯
is that p90 pickup?
yes
Yeah it sounds so good it’s making me thinking of getting a guitar with some in
@@josemanrique8804 look into Reverend Guitars. Solid for the money.
put Disney's Fantasia on, press mute. Play this concert... You will be AMAZED, i promise.
Love hurts... this frame rate hurts worse.
could've been the sound, could've been worse :D hope he raised a good chunk of money, applause to him for this
@@melvyn_ivy I was just gonna say! At least it sounds great :))
Pretty much Lage plays the guitar the Portuguese way, with lots of influence from Bill Frisell. Not suprising given his Portuguese ancestry. He is up there with the other great Oirtuguese-American Jazz musicans as Paul Gonsalves on tenor sax with the Duke Ellington Band at the Newport Jazz Festival and Horace Sulver on the piano.
Not a single unnecessary note!
What, exactly, is an unnecessary note? One that is not necessary, presumably. But which note, or notes?
If Mr Lage does not play 'unnecessary notes', there must be musicians who do, by definition. Who, for example?
Just curious.
Cierto!!!
cool
So i have tried to shy away from this whole list out your favorite guitarists or drummers or trumpeters .. and instead think more globally like who are my facorite music makers period. Like however you arrived at good music is whatever, the question is who is as a musician purely do you love the most. beyond abilities and all that.... Whos music just touches you the most deeply the most often,,, Who's playing does it? anyone who cab do both? For me Julian is at the very top of that list. Hes got it all. Next to Julian sits Monk, coltrane, nina simome and a series of indian players you probly dont recognize, herbie hancock.
😊👍👍👍
AMO BERGAMO
👏
They can play music 🤪
The interplay between the guitar and bass at times is ridiculous!
bare with me on this one but imagine > Julian Lage and Plini Collaboration....
Gospel chords
muito agradável de ouvir
They just need Norah Jones to sing along side the vibes
i think i'll buy a deluxe reverb and not play it.
i can relate
@@nomnom112 thanks man i love u
Buy one, play it, be inspired! Add a Broadcast dual overdrive and float away to heaven...
1:11:35 the chicken dance
Grant Green. JOHN SCOFIELD...PAT MARTINO...
Ruff. Woof.
Hmmmmmm. Julian is more playful in his approach than bill frisell ...
