Rudy's sticks keep perfect time, moving the music with excitement. Flawless. Thomas's base outlines and grounds everything beautifully. Bill is his usual masterful self. What an iconic trio.
As a guitar player, the temptation to just let you fingers fly and fill the void with some flash is always present. Bill never succumbs to that temptation.

i am an indian from the southernmost state of india, have grown up all through these 60 years on a staple diet of music - of various kinds - from the classical carnatic music of south india, to the hard rock and everything in between at one time or the other... the music that bill frisell makes is like nothing else, and yet is like (almost) everything else you have heard across the spectrum... ! and what i find as the cornerstone of everything he creates, is MELODY - which is the queen emperor of any/all music. the *melodic* is that ultimate hallmark of a true music. bill's is a musical soul. hence the zen feel that so many below have so spontaneously felt and confessed here :) Grace - indeed !! god bless :)

After listening to this guy for over 20 years, it just hit me -- it's not about style, technique, rhythm, harmony or even melody ... it's about connecting to people. Musician to musician, and the connection they're able to create to the listeners. That's what the greatest musicians/artists are able to do.
Bill is such a unique musician. His delicate sound, the country colors, the harmonic vocabulary and the big bag of electronic tricks all used with such economy and taste. Saw him play live only once in the 90's and I was blown away. A true guitar hero.

As a musician how restrained Bill, sticking to the sound and harmonics, never showing off, ever so slightly varying, just so authentic. The music sounds simple but is profound. One feels joy, and gratitude. I don't know if I want to cry, sing or dance listening to this 😂
I've spent my life searching for a certain sound.I have spent countless hours and dollars doing it. Maybe I was in a record shop on rainy days for 8 hours discovering or watching performers on stage but I think I have just reached my journeys end with Bill. I'm home now.
Extremely delicate and intricate music. Feather light sounds charged with emotion. The more you listen, the more you immerse in its depths of light and air.
yea honestly his performances out in front of his or someones house during covid all wearing masks outside with everyone 20 feet apart it really rubbed me the wrong way but i guess if your in the main stream you have to follow the main stream guidances paid science is our enemy
7:55 the groove starts heating up a bit, and they are all so Zen, with such economy of movement and no hammy stage manner. It's so great to watch people playing at this level of control. Rudy certainly seems to be a magician up there--what you see and what you hear almost don't make sense, he's so cool.
Excellent & unique. I have to say that Rudy Royston REALLY shines. Man, what an elegant drummer. This is what it sounds like when ensemble members LISTEN to each other while they play. Very creative.
Thomas Morgan is the most in touch bass player I've ever heard. All three of them together are fabulous! Many have commented on Bill of course, and Rudy, too, but please think about the melodic nature of the bass player here as well. Also, Thomas Morgan seems to be able to play and respond and pivot so adroitly without any fuss. I love this trio!
The first time I heard Bill was on an episode of Camine Guitars on TV. The thing that I was stuck by was his gentle nature. He played Surfer Girl on a guitar fashioned from a salvaged piece of wood from an old New York building. What he offered was something that reached into the soul in a way that could only be described as an expression of pure love. Made me an instant fan.
Played this loud while preparing and enjoying a nice dinner with friends. Been listening to BF since the the start of the 80s. He's truly one of a kind, and I think I enjoy his trio settings most of all.

Eye contact is necessary to know when to transition when something is unclear, like when you add someone to the mix or are playing a composition you haven't practiced or even played as a group in a long time. The telephone is an example of having a conversation without seeing the person.

Fantastic! Frisell fan. Have heard him in Buffalo, NY and Newport Jazz Fest. Listening on Martin Logan Motion 40 loudspeakers, this is the best engineered TH-cam concert I've ever hear. Warm, detailed upright bass thump, clear, round guitar, and crystalline, shimmering drum kit.

How can one person create such a universe of music through his instrument? Maybe I'm biased, but as a guitarist, I find the depth of originality in this guy's playing is practically unmatched by anyone of any instrument or background.

Heard them at CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival last night in the Temple, an old auditorium in downtown Rochester with sun pouring through 10 feet high stained glass windows - very cool.
Sweet, different, well played, quaint effects for a reason and with great effect, playful, smiling, funny, entertaining, wonderful, unique, masterful. And I mean all three musicians! This is just the time when one should use the word fantastic. I would say both transcendental and exciting, both poetic and funny. Relaxed and present in the moment. It may just not get any better. This has a lot of Thelonius Monk in it, some Baccarach, and blue jazz, and Debussy, and even some Zappa and what not. This guy knows all and more about the guitar and how to use a loop pedal, in his own originally sweet way. I hear sounds I never heard before, and they make me smile! Top genius!

For those who don’t know Australian geography, Victoria is the state south of New South Wales, where Sydney and the Blue Mountains are situated. The Blue Mountains is a part of the Great Dividing Range, a series of mountain ranges, ridges, and plateaus. The Great Dividing Range is also called the Eastern Highlands. It is the world’s third longest mountain range. Starting from Queensland’s Cape York Peninsula in the north down south to New South Wales it bends westward to Victoria, finally dissolving in the Grampians. Heard them at CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival last night in the Temple, an old auditorium in downtown Rochester with sun pouring through 10 feet high stained glass windows - very cool.

Sweet, different, well played, quaint effects for a reason and with great effect, playful, smiling, funny, entertaining, wonderful, unique, masterful. And I mean all three musicians! This is just the time when one should use the word fantastic. I would say both transcendental and exciting, both poetic and funny. Relaxed and present in the moment. It may just not get any better. This has a lot of Thelonius Monk in it, some Baccarach, and blue jazz, and Debussy, and even some Zappa and what not. This guy knows all and more about the guitar and how to use a loop pedal, in his own originally sweet way. I hear sounds I never heard before, and they make me smile! Top genius!
So wonderful. A masterclass in class itself.
