- In this episode, I try to transform the boring mirrors in my bathroom into something elegantly macabre by adding ornate frames, skulls, bats and real bones. I hope you will enjoy watching this Gothic DIY episode as I continue my quest for home improvement, trying to renovate my bathroom into something worthy of a Gothic Lair!

Love it - You should create a true "Medicine Cabinet" that looks like a vintage apothecary stand or something a witch would have in her lair...just a thought!
This episode made me think about tissue boxes. Some people will have boxes that they'll place their tissue boxes in so that it will match their bathroom theme.
A few ideas:
A monster's mouth with jagged teeth dispensing the tissue.
A mini graveyard where it looks like the tissues are in an open grave.
A white box absolutely covered in bones which would look like a pile of bones.
A box of any design but with a hand or skeleton hand creeping out.
A coffin, though this would require extending the box in shape past a normal box and make the project slightly more complicated.
An eerie cave covered in stickers that look like entrances and exits to the cave, possibly with little bats on wires.

Edit 2: I think this could be a really creative project with all sorts of possibilities.

If you stand in a dark room, look in a mirror, and say 'Paint it black' three times, Voltaire will appear and compliment your decor.

I love how you show the entire process, because this is just how it is, a series of fails and solutions, seeing what works for you, and what doesn't, changing stuff as you go. It's what makes it equal parts frustrating and satisfying to do stuff yourself, and in the end you'll love it more for having struggled a bit.
I love how both mirrors ended up looking! Even though the medicine cabinet didn’t work out you could totally make a gothic bathroom tray for your toiletries! Or be a cheap ass like me and get one of those surprisingly elegant silver trays from Dollar Tree
Orville has a bone dry sense of humour.
I do like the mirrors in all white, but for some reason the one on the white door got lost, so it was a good call to paint ot black.... My bathroom is white, gray, black and chrome I like this idea
@ morrigan Laveau I have wondered if Voltaire knows that krylon also makes I spray paint in a course and in a fine texture that is to simulate Stone
I was trapped in the whole "Paint it Black!" debacle with Orville the whole time, LOL. Except I saw that last one coming. (The white frame on the white door just wasn't great, the frame kept vanishing into the door. Painting it black was a good call.)
Love Orville's supervision of these projects. Without his Mastery of all Things, your efforts would be lackluster at best. Really, Mr. D should have his own show!

Yes!! I love the white gothic mirrors! My gothic heart loves black, but it starts to make a little depressed with all black so this is so perfect!!

I'm vegan, and I do appreciate your thought to do that option, however I do like to use natural bones as long as they're found, not hunted. ❤️

I love that at the first you look just like eddy musican but you are just a normal person who loves bats.
Question: Why not use crown molding like what they have available to cut down to size at Home Depot? That way you can have it cut to the size and angles you need, paint it, and glue it to the front without adding too much weight. I'm having to redo my bathroom after getting the vanity replaced and that stuff is actually pretty light.

And if possible, reinforce the hinge with some piano hinge, small but strong.
You'll be happy to hear I came up with a substitute for heavy frames--lace!
Time to make a creepy shelf to make up for the lost cabinet portion! Necessity is the mother of creepy invention!
Caring so much about such common and simple things like medicine cabinets or towel racks gives Voltaire some Big Goth Dad Energy and I'm living for it

That frame shop you suggested helped me finish so many projects including one that has sat unfinished since last year! I've had such a time finding reasonably priced, ornate frames. My vintage suitcase hair implement organizer can finally be completed! Yay Thank you!

I strongly suggest taking a lid or a canvas board and making a custom painting for the medicine cabinet
I think the mirrors would look wonderfully macabre with some DIY antiquing. There are some great tips for it on pinterest.
I make my own frames out of cardboard and paper mache. Sometimes I make the ornate flourishes out of air-dry clay, pc clay or epoxy . There are lots of moulds available online for next to nothing. Not only is it super inexpensive, easy and aesthetically pleasing when finished but it's only very very lightweight.

I’m not really into homemaking myself, but I tune into Voltaire’s videos every now and again. How popular is he among the groups of people who regularly watch this type of content?
Another idea to file away for future inspiration. I already made a bone towel rail after a previous video, ok so it’s a 1/12th scale miniature for a doll house but even miniatures deserve a gothic home.

I'd LIKE to turn my bathroom very momento-mori esque with light, muted colors so it's not just so heavy with black and dark colors. I think these frames are a great idea! Now I just need to find a good shower curtain...
I think you could get around the cheap medicine cabinet by making somewhat of the same thing out of wood. Just a simple box frame with two pieces of wood on the inside to make shelves and anchoring it to the wall. It might work since it’ll be stronger than thin plastic. But I love the white mirror, the subtle accents are right up my dark alley
That white frame mirror is absolutely gorgeous! Makes me think I'll have to keep the walls white in any future apartments.

A small antique apothecary cabinet might work as a medicine cabinet for you.
Perfect timing! Thank you for doing so much trial-and-error to make this work. I just moved into a new home where the previous owner replaced their beautiful medicine cabinet with a cheaper one (that didn’t even fit properly into the wall!). I swapped it out and had been brainstorming what to do with the old cabinet. I shall make a mirror for the gothic vanity I’ve always wanted! This video has really helped me save time not having to figure out the tedious stuff. Can’t wait to start measuring.

As an art school drop out I know all about failed projects. I live in a hundred year old house with my hubby. I found a really nice black lacquered mirror at an antique store it couldn't have cost more then $20. I know Ikea had one similar but it was plastic and cost the same. It's on my bedroom wall.

Both look great! But you could have bought moulding or trim from the hardware store and made your own frame for the cabinets. It would probably been lighter.

I assume you already have an idea (and probably have it finished) but I think a medicine cabinet with a window rather than a mirror done up in an "alchemical" style could be an interesting feature. Though, if you're storing standard medicine bottles in it, might not be so great...still, concept to explore
When I heard the ,,Masquerade" playing in the background , I realized this video really is serious.
Question though , I'll finish 1st year of highschool on 29th of May , and I wanted to learn to play some songs. I saw the ,,Ex Lover's Lover" , and I'll be sure to learn the rhythm for that song , as I already know the chords , it will just be to learn the strumming. I'm wondering if you'll be doing more of those videos , because you've got some really great songs , like previously mentioned ,,Masquerade" , ,,The Night'' , ,,Pirate's Bay" and so on , and yet you hide the secrets behind those songs. I don't want to sound like an asshole , but I just want to learn to play those songs , and I don't even need to bet , because there are a lot of people that want the same thing as me , of which I can bet a few are toxic or just horrible people.

Thought what it you get one of the ones thats not the right size like the one that has the mirror edges and then the a bigger regular frame and put in the cabinet and the mirror around it? Or make a coffin shade cabinet with no glass on it? Or take a big frame shadow box and put shelfs in it with no door or mirror just open shefing and put your stuff in beautiful spooky containers make it look like an apothecary that would look so good
Ooh what about something like balsa wood for the medicine cabinet frame? It's lightweight and should take to paint easily.
