Thank you for sharing this beautiful project. I don’t watch your videos or videos like this because I am a seamstress by any means or a sewer myself. Instead, I watch your videos because I want to understand and learn to recognize what to look for in quality constructed garments such as this. Unfortunately, I feel like fast fashion, and the modern world has pretty much completely divorced us from the realities of everything that it takes to bring our clothes and our other intimate consumable goods to us from seed to full bloom. Having a better understanding of these things helps me in turn have a much better appreciation for all that goes into constructing our garments and understanding that process translates to knowing why certain things cost what they cost, and it is only fair to pay someone such as a seamstress or tailor for their time, energy, and labor in kind.
oh i love the idea of making stays in mesh! i never would have thought it had enough structural stability to work! i'm currently working on how to make a better chest binder for us trans folks by starting from 1700s fan curve patterning and then modernizing the silhouette and making it more masc (not emphasizing the hips, raising the neckline and having it curve in toward the body, etc) i think doing the whole thing in power net could also make it look more like lingerie but not in a fem way, ya know? we should have the option of binders that are totally stealth but we should also have the option of binders made to be seen! 1700s and 1800s knew WAY more than us about how to create a desired silhouette without hurting yourself. as designers we should be studying their engineering. there is no earthly reason for modern binders to be as uncomfortable and potentially dangerous as they are. we have the technology to do better. we've had it for 300 years. longer than that actually
I've seen people make binders with A-shaped boning, which apparently acts to shove the bust down in the same way the V-shaped boning on 18th century stays acts to emphasize the bust.
I would absolutely LOVE to be able to make corset-like binders for my transmasc friends and family before (or even if) they can get top surgery. The 8 hour limit can be so hellish for them, especially when they're out n about, but it's so unhealthy to keep it on for longer than that. Also, I can't imagine the synthetic fibers are doing them any favors in terms of breathability
It has been my little pipe dream to create structured stay-binders for years now. 🥹I would likE to join the onLine endEavor! I hope to see what more people come up with! It’s real homophobic and transphobic /hj just how little mentions/instruction/resources I have found on the web for a good binder using the knowledge of ages bygone. A binder that doesn’t make me want to spatchcock the tightening polyester sausage casing right off my skeleton with loud report. We gotta do allllll the archeology and lab research ourselves. I feel like I’m floundering around in the dark aside from a vague “bosom-wranglin? Those guys with the stays knew what was up” Well. I appreciate what you share with us so much, Ms. Banner. I am a fashion design student. I just completed Draping 101 and I absolutely loved that class. I love how meticulous you are with your approach to details. You simply, take your time and complete your projects beautifully. By watching the way you work, it teaches me to slow down. A foot pedal is not an accelerator. I also now want to learn how to make corsets. I still have a few more classes left to complete my degree, and more years to learn as an apprentice, but I am slowly building the courage to pursue costume design as a profession. So once again, thank you for all that you do.,💐💗.
Feeling inspired, yet again. Such quality information, humour and videography. Like (presumably) everyone, I love a new Bernadette video. Now I see the reason for the panic pivot for the ball😂. I’m glad you went ahead and finished this. It’s accessible for the current era, and the shaping is wonderful (not like having two bones up into the armpit which leaves one with an uncomfortable and nervous night full of bodice adjusting)❤❤❤10/10🤩😂
the fabric looks like liquid gold when you move! you look like a modern version of Demeter! it is so gorgeous on you the way it moves and flows accentuating a perfect hourglass
I love the finished dress. It's a good blend with the pleating and the stitched reticule. The head piece is wonderful. Thank you for making this wondrous, whimsical garment.
I have been working (procrastinating) on a corset for a year now - this vid is a reminder of why I am working on it. So I can have a good base pattern for structured gowns! (I already have the fabric for 2...). What marvelous results! I will have to look into cotton bobbinette. It can't be more expensive than coutil, right?
The thing about daylight, is it's white light. So colours come out looking the way they actually are. Where indoor lighting tends to be yellow-orange light. Being opposite to blue, it has a negating effect. First pulling the blue to grey, and if strong enough, even overcoming that, and going into the yellow-oranges. Hence why the blue is subdued and the gold is allowed to shine.

The dress looks like an homage to Demeter in the best possible way. What a gorgeous silhouette, what beautiful fabric, what great gold details.
Feeling inspired, yet again. Such quality information, humour and videography. Like (presumably) everyone, I love a new Bernadette video. Now I see the reason for the panic pivot for the ball😂. I’m glad you went ahead and finished this. It’s accessible for the current era, and the shaping is wonderful (not like having two bones up into the armpit which leaves one with an uncomfortable and nervous night full of bodice adjusting)❤❤❤10/10🤩😂
the ending credits makes so emotional, the artistry and gratitude behind it makes me cry, its so sweet
the fabric looks like liquid gold when you move! you look like a modern version of Demeter! it is so gorgeous on you the way it moves and flows accentuating a perfect hourglass
Phenomenal! So ethereal and magical ✨🌙✨
I love the finished dress. It's a good blend with the pleating and the stitched reticule. The head piece is wonderful. Thank you for making this wondrous, whimsical garment.
17:44 studio cleaning video next?
YESSS
I would also love to see that
The dress turned out BEAUTIFUL. And that fabric gaah. So so so pretty.
Simply adore the lady, Bernadette! Stunning! It's everything.
Those horns are super cute! The dress is gorgeous, awesome that it's so comfortable and light!
I’m so sorry you couldn’t wear this golden dress for the ball, but it’s absolutely breathtaking😍😍😍
Awesome dress, nice to hear the stays turned out super comfortable.
It's a pleasure to watch someone do what they love 😊
Excellent as usual; I enjoyed every step of the creative process.
Marlee gasping in glee when hearing about the new tea like you'd gasp from seeing the gala, relatable
You never cease to impress me.
Thank you for all you do. Our craft shall perservere.
This dress is just fabulous!
Love the construction, the bodice and the fabric movement. Stunning!
A gown fit for an Autumn goddess of wheat! stunning! 😍
Another beautiful gown. I'm so happy to see more of your videos again!
As a seamstress, I just idolize you Bernadette! Thank you for sharing your incredible skills with us! Love from Arizona!

I had never heard of bobinet fabric but it was really interesting to see how it worked in this project. Absolutely stunning dress!
Your channel is always my favorite thing to watch while I scan film and chill. Right now I'm scanning back rooms Style photos of a dead Mall and a bunch of classic cars from the '70s
