I wish that the reaction to the abortion middle ground video could have happened with a staff member that's pro life and another one that's pro choice vs. just two pro choice people. Is there nobody on Jubilee's team that is pro life? I think that it would have been a much more interesting discussion that way. I appreciate that John had come from a pro life background in the past, but it just seems to kind of defeat the point of middle ground if the reaction to the video is coming from staff members on the same side of the issue.
I hope we eventually see a Middle Ground episode of OBGYNs or physicians/doctors debating the abortion topic! Something like pro-choice Christians versus pro-life atheists would also be really cool!
Yes, men who are prochoice want an easy out to not pay nor be responsible for a child they fathered. Moreover, there future wife will not hold it against them since the child is terminated, and there is anonymity. Kind of sad.
54:25 “even if somebody thinks that life begins at conception but wants to get an abortion, they should have that choice” - if this is true, isn’t this the same as murder
keep going back and forth on this issue. I do feel with what I have seen so far, your channels are really helping me understand the other side. One thing that really upset me with what was said in the video being commented on was not that you're a man and have no say on my body, but that you’re a "White" man... What the hell does race have anything to do with this subject? When she said that she lost me. Abortions affect and are an issue for all races in the U.S. not just one. But great show and thank you for being a good place for both sides to come and talk. We need more of this. I would love to return to the original statement in the 80s Legal but Rare.
It was just yesterday I saw the "Twobilee" channel in my subscription list and thought about how I wished you'd all start posting here again. Wish answered! Thank you so much for this. It's always nice to understand some of the BTS happenings, as well as the thoughts of the creators. I'd love to see part 2 of this episode. As far as another episode of Middle Ground, the body positivity vs fitness enthusiasts episode is the one I think about most often. I'd also love to hear your thoughts on Middle Ground vs Spectrum: which do you prefer and why?
Great episode. Personally, I feel like John took this discussion from a more objective approach, but I still appreciate Ragini‘s thoughts and perspective on the issue. The one thing I will note… it’s a bit unfair to say that pro abortion people are “pro-life” because they are protecting women’s lives as they could potentially die from childbirth, but in reality, statistically, less than .5% of abortions come from a women’s life being endangered during pregnancy. I personally am pro-life, but think an entire ban for abortion would be ridiculous and unfair. In most situations, abortion isn’t right (in my opinion), but I do believe there are cases in which abortion is viable or even necessary, there is lots of gray area on this issue, and I congratulate Jubilee and both John and Ragini for their great work and discussion.
I was the same until I found out about the Dublin declaration which claims it's never necessary and I was also even more taken aback when I found that 30,000 doctors said in America that abortion is never medically necessary after 20 weeks. I think they banning it completely is very reasonable. All children should be protected in the womb whatever the situation.
I really enjoyed this video and I loved the Abortion Middle Ground episode. With each side of the political spectrum having strong reasons to be passionate about their side-often viewing it as either rampant murder of innocent human beings or extreme systematic violation of bodily automony-I think it makes abortion especially polarizing, and is a topic where the effort towards humanizing and empathizing with the other side is crucial. Middle Ground is my favorite series Jubilee does, love hearing from different sides in meaningful ways that can be hard to find elsewhere :)
Hey! Huge fan of Jubilee here. I do like the idea around making these types of ideas, but I did find it to be a bit of a disservice by not including any people from the other side to speak with you guys. I would have appreciated this video more if there was somebody on the pro-life side having a conversation with you two. You have a lot of conservative fans, and we appreciate your videos. I'd like to applaud you for the fact that in your Middle Ground and Spectrum videos, you don't seem to let your biases take over the videos. However, I just wanted to ask if going forward you make more of these reaction videos, you include somebody on the other side of the issue as well. I'm not really sure if Jubilee has many conservatives working there, and I did want to ask if you guys do hire conservatives or people on the right wing side or not? Do you guys currently have any on your team? I was just wondering, please answer if you can!
I haven’t finished the video but I’m looking forward to this podcast! It’s encouraging to see you two enjoy each other’s company and have a civil discussion. Hope you two had a product time and thank you for this video :))
I will wish they asked the indian girl if it was okay if people use abortion for gender selection purposes in India in Andra Pradesh. Suddenly she will not be Pro Choice.
@@Sam478y This change to India's law was very recent (Sept 2022) by the Indian supreme court. It was not always like this. Gender tests were available in India a long time ago. Doctor's will indicate sex in a non direct way to indicate a boy or girl post ban on the reveal in the 90s. You would know this if you were from the country and understood the culture.
I really enjoyed this, I'm not political at all by any means and generally don't lean to any side that doesn't directly affect me but watching this and seeing your different reactions and though processes behind the video from a technical and planning stand point was really interesting.
Wow, thank you guys for such an interesting conversation. I love Jubilee and I love this channel as well. I am pro life personally .. I think the basis of the question should land on this objective standard are we navigating with when it comes to what is right and what is wrong . I think for me that should be the most ultimate question that human beings should operate with. Although many things are gray and many things are nuance always be an objective standard to which we defined right and wrong and I think that will give us more clarity at the end of the day when it comes to these conversations.
Thanks for giving us insight to see what perspectives the directors and producers have during the production. It would be fun to revisit these topics to see how perspectives change over time too 😁

47:20 this is why you need better employees. You just had this woman who calls herself a senior producer or some horseshit like that, say that there's no consensus on when life begins? It's at conception. The dude talked about using Wikipedia as a jumping off point, it would only take you about 60 seconds or less to figure that out if you had any intention of actually understanding what the hell you're talking about
I love this conversation because it humanizes the staff and participants, gives us a better understanding of the shows' purposes, and encourages safe conversations like this, where we don't have the fear of being killed or ridiculed by the other sides. I find it sad that a lot of times, participants came to these videos just to dominate the conversation without having a shred of understanding and empathy. It defeats the purpose of these videos, and we need to remind ourselves to humble ourselves. I'd like you guys to talk about the conservative parents vs liberal teachers episode because it's the first one that features someone from PragerU, and those people are pretty hardcore in their conservatism that they lack humility. That makes me wonder about the staff's thoughts about inviting that channel's affiliates.
John might have come from a somewhat conservative background but you both are coming from a firmly pro-abortion perspective that accepts the whole framing of the debate from that side. I like Jubilee but increasingly, I've felt the political bias of your staff creep into videos. I dont believe that it is purposeful but that is a natural effect of an overwhelmingly left-wing staff, and your assumptions naturally prejudice videos by framing certain issues from one side. You should be seriously thinking about reflecting intellectual diversity in the video process as well as just the casting. Edit: as somebody right-wing, the representation of my side of the political aisle feels tokenistic when the videos you produce are mainly on left-wing topics and even when not, are generally framed from a left-wing perspective. It's sad, because your mission itself is admirable, but myself and others do feel like you're just becoming closer to Cut - which is not something you should want if you value quality and intellectual diversity.
I didn’t gain the slightest bit of empathy for the pro-choice side. Not because an unwanted pregnancy isn’t a traumatic situation-I have great compassion for how difficult it is-but because EVERY single pro-choice argument’s validity totally disappears the moment the baby is born. Nothing about their situation changes, but-ready or not-they’re legally parents, and it cannot be undone. That means that the only germane issue…for either side…is when does life begin. And if it begins at conception, abortion is unthinkable. Conversely, if it begins at any other time, that time cannot be definitively determined. One criterion is certain. The other is vague at best. Deciding something as important as human life on murky, murky considerations is seriously problematic. We already have incredibly reliable systems of birth control. Very, very few responsible women who do not wish to be pregnant will become so. And contraception will only continue to get better. Let’s get everyone the education they need, and TOGETHER let’s stop abortion. The Left used to say, “Abortion: safe, legal, and rare.” But then it became a winning issue for them. So, now it’s all about political power for them. The Right also uses abortion principally for political power. Let’s dump all of their sorry asses!
Are we really claiming pregnancy is dangerous? This isn't a thousand years ago, we have medications and therapeutics. But for those believing this is the case and are not being facetious, tell your wife not to have children because you don't want to get her hurt. its for her health. Lets wait until the world goes extinct lol We all forget 100 years ago, people had more than 2 kids, many places 10 kids plus. For those saying they don't want to keep it, give it up for adoption.
Doesn't the confidence that the father will be there, helping the woman through the pregnancy, and because of the trust is why a woman will go though those 9 months? So you could say that you still have a rope on that raft and will not let it drop off the horizon.
I don’t see how a person can decide if someone else is human or not. You can argue that a mother can decide what’s gonna happen to them sure but they can’t literally dictate whether theyre a human being.
