Mastering the Short Game - the Bump and Run

  • The fastest way to lower your scores happens around the greens. Forget the flop shots, forget trying to spin the ball, you need to master the highest percentage shots.
    In this video, join me as my brother, PGA professional and Single Plane master instructor, Tim Graves to teaches me his expertise - the bump and run.
    The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
    Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
    This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
    The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.
    To find out more about the Single Plane Golf swing you can purchase my book at amazon here:

    Please X 100: more of this. This is absolute freakin' GOLD. You two together compliment each other so dang much in your teaching. I'd love to see you guys do a driver session together. I'd also love to see you guys narrate a round of golf together. So cool. Greatly appreciated.

    The content is always great but as many have said below....have been waiting for you two to do a video together and it did not disappoint. Give us more! Would love to see you two play a round as if you were in a tournament as a team and how you talk through your strategy.

    Interesting to watch these two brothers who have spoken together their whole lives. They speak quicker (even when they know they're on camera and wish to speak clearly) because they know how to converse with interject to synergistically enhance the conversation. One plus one is more than two here. And the respect, joy and excitement is a pleasure to watch while I sense the feel of the bump and run.

    Thanks gentlemen. Moe’s ‘non-rotational, no-flip’ traIL hand/wrist/arm made all this so much simpler. Moe’s process, as you have studied and taught, makes learning so much easier. One swing thought/paradigm that works everywhere with every stick(even with the evil putt!). I actually broke ninety(88) last evening in a 40kph wind in southeastern Alberta! You guys are the best!!

    Thank you Tod! Another gold lesson here! I have been following your content and you upload a video exactly when I need one.. I bought biomech putter after your suggestion and no more 3 putts(getting 2-3 birdies per round as well). I have been struggling with chipping(consistency), and here comes my medicine!
    I have started following your content since beginning of my golf career(2020,May) and you are my virtual guru. With single plane concepts and bio mech putter I shot my best round this week(+5),even par on back 9. With good chipping technique I can at least gain 2-3 shots. I am not sure, if there is any record to shoot under par within short period of time, I am up for it😀

    Your bother talks fast, but the words out of his mouth ring true. This is so hard to teach to kids. I believe it is because they have a hard time 'creating the shot' or what I know as visualizing the shot. I will be using this video to help my students in the future. Thanks! Great work.

      My son bumps into hill with a 9I.........we just played TPC Champions AZ......this shot killed me(6 strokes). Not to mention my 9wood went thru several greens on the second shot and thus I was chipping downhill! So now I use SW.

    Great stuff Todd, I’m trying to find a video of you did , with a 9 iron and you pitched it half way to target and rolled it on the green, I can’t find it anywhere, any idea where to look. I’m on you tube looking, thanks for any help

    Great video! However, the first time I tried it, I hit 10 yards short of the green and the ball stopped 4 yards short ... but then I chipped it in from there for a par!

    This is a great lesson! Can you do one for a level shot over 30-40 yards of fairway to a front pin? I recall a year or so ago you were working on that shot with a 9 iron.

    Great to see you both on the same video. Is the ball flying half way to the hole? Two-thirds? On a flat shot, how much do you allow for roll-out?

    • @ToddGravesGolf

  • @JR-xj2vr

    Most weekenders will still mess this shot up with a wedge. Low probability of success. Instead, use a 8 or 7 iron. Yeah, you will deal with ball on the ground before hits green, but the probability of getting on the green and giving your chance to save par is much higher. I went to an 8 iron 2 years ago and will never go back to a wedge anytime I can run the ball up. After you practice this a bit, you will be surprised how effective this shot is.

    Tim or Todd, other than choking down, does your grip change from your normal swing?

  • @WolfZappe
    @WolfZappe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So what's the better club for this? A 52 or a 56 degree wedge? Also, if the hands are pressed forward then you don't want to use too much bounce?

    • @ToddGravesGolf

    I want to lean the OPSW I injured myself, at one time a multiple time world long drive finalist and traveling entertainer. At one time one of the fastest swingers of the club on the planet. I turn 45 in one year, I’m disabled and half blind and am having the same problems as Mr.Norman. I need help winning a world long drive championship. I'm sure i'm like most golfers where we literally don't have anywhere to practice this kind of stuff. The two courses in my area have one putting green each, no bunker, no slope or anything. just flat chip shots out of the rough to practice. wish we had some type of area to practice the short game i'd spend tons of time there.

    If you de -loft say a 60 degree lob wedge,why not just use a pitching wedge or even a 9 iron and punch the ball in ? The extra length of shaft would mean you don't need such a long back swing,(less to go wrong,)so it would be an easier shot.

    • @ToddGravesGolf
      @ToddGravesGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim’s the expert. Probably because of too much bounce on club. You can try what you want. Create the shot. Many ways to hit these

  • @HamiltonVanMan
    @HamiltonVanMan ปีที่แล้ว

    You know what one of the most "Moe Norman" thing these guys did in this video? They didn't stop hitting golf balls. Hit one, hit another one. Repeat.

    Green guy is no joke, He's managed to break every cliche fundamental waste of space advise from every golf expert' on youtube...Check them out (there's about 100 of them) all preaching a wrong cookie cutter flop or 'make sure to face the target after your flop shot' (lol) approach. And for what ? To get close ? pfffttt, why ? Golf's all about scoring, not jumping up and down about being close....run that sucker into the hole.
