  • This video discusses how to play '.Wav' music files from a USB thumb drive connected to the front of the XR12 or XR16 mixer interface, so you don't have to sacrifice 2 of your channels for house music on the smaller units.
    *Note to XR18 owners; the larger XR18 unit has channel 17/18 as physical 'line-in' inputs on the front of the unit instead of the USB thumb-drive opition.
    *Note 2; Music audio files need to be in Wav CD format - 44100Hz sample rate, and 16-bit depth quality. You'll see this as a standard option when changing your conversion settings in iTunes or any other common music file/library Application.
    *Note 3; The USB Thumb drive you use needs to be formatted as FAT or FAT32, see the help article from Behringer at the link below if you need help with this, but be sure to back up any precious files on your USB thumb drive elsewhere before reformatting it, as it will be completely wiped during the process!!:

    Is it possible to play 4-channel track from USB stick? For example to have separate stereo playback for a house and band members and playback with a click for a drummer.

    How do I turn OFF the advance to the next song automatically in the playback recorder? XAir-12

    The channel 13 and 14 are optional right? If you simply want to play music then the Aux channel (bonded 17-18 in the XAir 18), then this is good enough right?

      That is correct. The USB port on the XR12 and XR16 is assignable to any input channels. The XR18 has the additional channels 17/18 for aux inputs while the USB port is for multi-channel audio in/out to a computer DAW.

    Thanks for this. Do you know how to do playback of an audio file using the XR18? And whether track selection/start, pause, stop functions via midi control? Thanks!

    PLEASE HELP!!
    I CANNOT PLAY MUSIC FROM A USB STICK!
    I have tried everything!
    Followed online instructions from different forums
    Watched the Behringer videos
    This is what I have done so far.
    * Formatted a few different USB sticks to FAT32
    * Recorded music at 44.1kHz & 48kHz
    * Sample rate 16bit and also 24bit
    In my XR12, my sample rate is set to 44.1kHz.
    I even tried setting it to 48kHz, and tried playing music recorded at 48kHz. STILL NOTHING!
    I can "Record" to the USB sticks, BUT CAN'T PLAY MUSIC FROM THEM!??
    Someone please help me. I would really appreciate your help. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!?

      They are really finicky...download a free fat/fat32 format program and do a FULL format. Try fat...not fat32 first.

      Try erasing the meta data out of the wav files!

    Does not work with songs purchased on iTunes. You would have to convert them to .wav files...iTunes does not do that either only converts to mp3
