    I never thought about using a midi pedal with it. Genius!

    Very useful video! Defo explains exactly what I would like to be able to do with the mr18 and boss es5 switcher!

    Absolutely Brilliant Steve Thanks!!! I have both the XR18 and the Helix, so exactly what I was looking for, as I want to mute the FOH, so the band members can talk to each other via mics and in-ears on stage without audience hearing.

      Great stuff. I also use the same midi in to trigger my lighting. Will do a video on that at some point in the near future.

    Steve, This is a great video showing how simple it can be to setup MIDI control from the Helix to XR18. I have the Helix and MR18, so this will be very useful to me. Now I'm think of how I could use Helix foot switches to trigger notes or chords on my Yamaha synthesizer. Thank you for sharing!

      bjoecool you are welcome. Thought it might be useful to someone. I now trigger all our lighting from the helix too using an app called keylight. Hopefully make a video on this too.

    Great video. I have the XR 18 and A few years ago I decided to connect midi pedals for recording and controlling my iPad for song trigger and page turning. I’d moved away from it but now using the BEATBUDDY and other singular devices looking to do some recording a live stage performance. The ability to isolate things and doing the click track as well as stopping, starting and muting and unmuting channels is what I’m thinking for live stage with acoustic microphones. I do not have a looper control box nor have I seen 1 the works with both 1/4 inch and XLR combine. This will allow me to on the fly hands free control on or off the channels in and out of the XR & Aeros with designated inputs. This avoids having to use 2 mixers as well.

    Love the vid thinking of getting a mr18 Midas and would like to control it with my boss es5! Would be very handy as it’s only a 3 piece band and having control of desk Fx via a foot switch would be great!

    Just came across this Steve and just what I was looking for, THANK YOU!
    Would you happen to know how I can mute the FX with the helix? Don't know the Cc numbers or if it can be done.

    • @stevesheroan4131
      @stevesheroan4131 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dougie Munro I had to look it up in the XR18 MIDI supplemental manual, which is different from the regular manual.
      It definitely can be done. I am using an app called Multitracker to run backing tracks, which can natively send a MIDI PC msg at the start of each song. I use that msg to load a preset in the Helix. I then have an instant command set up in each Helix preset to load the XR18 snapshot for that song, so each song can have its own mix saved and it will be recalled by the Helix. I also have a foot switch in each preset assigned to a mute group for the FX returns on the XR18 so after each song ends I can turn off any verb or delay when talking to the crowd. It took some research to set it all up, but it works flawlessly.

      Dougie Munro Also of note: The CC’s that control the mute GROUPS are not in that list that I linked. They are higher up in the 30s range (33-36? maybe), and I discovered them through trial and error. Perhaps there should be an update to that list by MusicTribe, but I wouldn’t know who to send it to. Keep scrolling above the listed numbers and you’ll find extra MIDI functions. Better to be lucky than smart, I always say.

      @@stevesheroan4131 Thanks for the video, Steve! Judging by the date of this video, I think it was published before the last Helix firmware update that contained the USB hotkeys feature. Have you messed around with that feature at all? Is it any easier/different than the MIDI method of control? Maybe you could even mix the two methods of control (would you want to?)?

      @@stevesheroan4131 Haha, what is this madness?? Well, I appreciate the reply. It does seem like you're having some success with the Helix/XR combo, right? Have you stuck to just the MIDI control or have you ventured into the hotkey world?

    How have you managed to get ethernet working on the amazon fire tablet? I thought they didn't have any drivers for ethernet on the Fire OS so ethernet to usb adapters didn't work.

    Steve are you setting the XR18 Midi setings to anything? e.g. USB - MIDI Pass Thru in the settings menu? or is it just a straight plug in of the foot controller?

      We've got one and it definetly is worth the money if you can get it, I personally have issues with receiving midi (as in there's nothing coming into my daw) but other than that , do believe the hype. And also watch videos on it

    Have you used a Soundcraft that is in the same category as the XR18? How do you think they compare?

    • @stevemountford3707

      I’ve only used the sound craft briefly. I prefer the behringer but maybe because I’m very familiar with it.
      XR18 is superb for the money. I would definitely buy again.

    • @stevemountford3707
      @stevemountford3707  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeffrey Milkey I’ve not tried this but according to the manual you can via program change 1-64. I’ve stored the helix away now but you may be able to follow the same approach but send a program change messsge?

    I have a question and I'm hoping somebody who frequents this video might find it and be able to answer it.
    Does the Behringer XR18 incorporate any function for midi timecode MTC?
    I'm wondering if there is a way that I can output or input which means I could cross convert to SMPTE LTC timecode in some fashion. My alternative is to just eat a channel.

    • @stevemountford3707
      @stevemountford3707  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve not seen anything unfortunately. Suspect you’d need to lose a channel and process internally or use an external smpte to midi

  • @AndyGeroldMusic

    Any idea why the midi out of the xr18 isn't changing my pedal? I have logic sending midi messages thru the xr18 and it's not working. I've literally tried everything so maybe there's something I'm missing that isn't obvious?

    • @stevemountford3707
      @stevemountford3707  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry, I’ve not really used the midi out only in I’m afraid. There is a setting for thru midi I think - I assume you’ve looked at that? Only thing I can think of I’m afraid.

    Is there a way to simultaneously mute one effect, while unmuting another? Say you have two different delays and wanted to swap them at some point in a performance.
