Well done! I have 7th & 8th grade students this year. We will be using IEW for writing, Fix- it grammar, MFW for history, Masterbooks for Chemistry/Ecology, and I'm still debating some other LA's subjects. I'm trying to decide between Abeka's Literature Grade 7 & 8 or Generations Literature Grade 7 & 8. Any help or thoughts between the two?
Generations has some of the best curriculum. My 9 year old devoured all of the history books (1st-5th) last summer for free reading. I've been reading them aloud and wow! Yes, definitely do a more in depth flip through!
This year my 6th used IEW Level A year 2, easy grammar plus (but we are going back to fix it, so much better!), teaching textbooks, wordly wise, Masterbooks World’s Story 2, outschool for science, homeschool art classes in person, homeschool sewing lessons in person, Rosetta Stone for French, and catechism classes at our church.
We used Generations during the current school year! We absolutely loved it! I ordered again for next year too! I have highschool, middle school, and elementary. Each grade was wonderful!
We are using IEW Structure and Style, Fix It Grammar Town Mouse and Country Mouse, Story of the World and the World's Story 2, Latin for Children Primer, Grammar for the Well-trained Mind, Christian Light Ed. Math 5 and Sonlight Science and we're using the same Apologia Bible curriculum as you, Word in Motion.
It’s my favorite time if year!! I love curriculum videos. My son will be in 6th and he is using the exact same science and lab kit. History, literature, and grammar he is using Sonlight. We are also adding in the Abeka reading comprehension, A Reason for Writing, Daily Grams, Spelling Power, and Mind Benders. For math, he uses Math• •U•See and Beast Academy.
I know this video has been out for a while but I'm new to homeschooling and have been on the fence about purchasing Fix-it grammar. Thank you so much for sharing the 4-week free sample! We are absolutely loving it!
I love all these suggestions and especially the generations curriculum. I have been feeling in such a rut with our curriculum choices. I’m going to be checking some of these out!
My 6th grader will be using Fix it Grammar & TGTB for LA, we only add Fix it Grammar for an add-on for him if I need extra stuff for him to do while I'm working with my 9th grader. We also use TGTB for Science and History. He will use MUS for pre-algebra. He will take typing and Spanish as well.
I’ve never heard of Generations before, would love a flip through. We’re doing Abeka English and Bible, Bookshark history and science, and Singapore Math.
Definitely would like an in-depth review of the Generations curriculum. I heard of it through a Reformed homeschoolers FB page. With no teacher book, does that mean there are no answer keys? If they have high school levels, do you think they would work for World and American history requirements? Thanks!!
Hey Mandy! Just curious with Generations if you would recommend starting with year 1 history or starting with the childs grade level? My daughter is going into grade 3 and I am torn to if we should do the Grade 3 or back track to Grade 1 to not miss anything.
My 6th grader is using: 180 Days of Social Emotional Learning, TGATB Language Arts, Spelling You See D, Vocabulary Workshop, TGATB handwriting, Abeka Reading Comprehension worksheets, CTC Math, From Adam to Us, Elevate Science, TGATB Typing, bible is still undecided.
I am planning on using SSS Level 1A for my uocoming 6th grader. But I am not sure if I should go with SSS Level 1B. I am so confused as to what level to choose after finishing either 1a or 1b. So if I get 1a what's next? And if I chose 1b what's next? For her reading level, she is just between below reading level and on level for her current 5th grade year.
My son is really wanting to work in the IEW Narnia study this year. He has never used the curriculum before. Language Arts/grammar & spelling are strong subjects for him, so can we jump in or does he have to go through another level first?
We're going to use IEW this year for additional writing. Will you be using Abeka Language C any? We've been using Abeka for a few years now. Thanks for all your videos.
It's this one: Teaching the Classics: iew.com/affiliate/411162/node/13590 Yes it's a DVD set. It teaches you how to do it, and then you're off on your own forever with classic books. Best training ever and I'll never need another literature program.
This was an exciting upload for me! Many I’m also exploring. Can you share the link for the lab kit? I have that book but didn’t know I could purchase a lab kit for it. Thanks!
My 6th grader is going to be using BJU Math 6, a mix of Masterbooks and BJU English 6, Masterbooks World's Story for history, and I put together a very basic intro to Chemisty/Physics for her🙂
Yes!!! I’m doing an in depth review on Monday. I have a video premiere right now on my channel that you can bookmark and set an alarm for. Monday at 10am!
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations for middle school homeschooling, i.e. record keeping, prep for high school, etc…? Is there anything homeschoolers should do differently from the elementary years to prep for high school? This is our first year schooling a middle schooler and feel a bit scared lol! We are using MFW for both our 6th grader and 1st grader, with Singapore Math (Primary Mathematics). Thanks for all you do, you are my go to homeschool TH-cam mom!
Hey friend! So middle school is really just a review of elementary school. I learned this with my first kid. Relax and enjoy the ride. They have slightly more advanced material, of course, but it’s nothing to worry over. I prepped my kids by strengthening their writing skills with Structure and Style (look for that on my channel), practicing note taking, and reading good books.
Opinion on the apologia science. I'm doing it as a group subject with 2 kids this year. In your opinion is 1 lab kit okay for both to do together? Thanks!!
Does your 6th grader do all of these subjects in one day? I have a hard time fitting in the requirements and don’t get to elective type classes like art and music. Mine are younger though so maybe eventually they’ll have more interest?
Hey Janelle! I honestly don't know, since it all depends on when and where you buy each thing. Some I got used, on sale, given as gifts, and from partner companies. So I can't really give a figure for that, sorry! I recommend shopping sales and used first. Also, the Generations company (generations.org) has the best prices on new curriculum sets.
My girls thought teaching textbooks was way to easy, and is totally different than abeka math. We might just stick with Abeka whole curriculum again for the 6th grade year.
It's my favorite week of the year; CURRICULUM REVEAL WEEK! What are you using for grade 6? Anything look fun that I have?

Review and flip through of the Generations curriculum would be wonderful!
Gotcha!
So glad someone on TH-cam is sharing about Generations!!
Yay!! I couldn't find any reviews for them and knew I had to spread the news.
Would love a more in depth review of the Generations curriculum.
Perfect! I'll put it on the list!

We also did generations this year with my first grader and we enjoyed it so so much. We did science, history and bible. Highly recommend it!

So glad to hear that! I've been hearing wonderful things about Generations!
We enjoy Generations this past year and will continue into the next with them.
Oh I’m so happy to hear that!!
We are also using the 6th grade history from Generations this year. It’s our first time with them too and I’m super excited about it!
Let me know how you like it! This is our first year as well ❤️
Teaching the Classics sounds just like a book I am reading currently..."The Thomas Jefferson Education."
So cool!
Does it? I need to get that one!
We are doing Generations Hero’s of the Faith. We are about halfway through and love it. We are also doing IEW for the first time this year. So excited
You're going to love it!
We are using IEW Structure and Style, Fix It Grammar Town Mouse and Country Mouse, Story of the World and the World's Story 2, Latin for Children Primer, Grammar for the Well-trained Mind, Christian Light Ed. Sounds like a wonderful year!
Yes! I'd love to see more about generations!
Yes a thousand times yes for the lab kit! I won’t do a science curriculum without one! Hoping one day they may do a history craft kit 😂 🤞🏻
For math, he uses Math•

That is awesome!

Thank you for sharing, Mandy! Loved watching!! 😀
Would love to see the flip through on Generations please.
Thank you! Yes please, a review / flip through of the History from Generations!
You got it!
We did 3rd grade curriculum from Generations this past year and really loved it!
I'm so happy to hear that!

Sounds like a great year!
Did you do a flip through of the Generations history?!
Would love to see a flip through of the History curriculum and the Words in Motion!

If they have high school levels, do you think they would work for World and American history requirements? Thanks!!
The keys, plus tests/quizzes and their keys, are all in the workbook, so it's all there! Which means less stuff to buy and keep track of! 🥳
Ohhh my goodness...that lab kit!
Yes! It's awesome!
Hey Mandy! Just curious with Generations if you would recommend starting with year 1 history or starting with the childs grade level? My daughter is going into grade 3 and I am torn to if we should do the Grade 3 or back track to Grade 1 to not miss anything.
I started with my child's grade level :)
Looks like a great year planned! Are you taking a break from MFW?
Yes, for now.
How do you use Abeka spelling? Do you use the lesson plan book?
Would love a flip through Generations 🙌🏼
I love your hair!
I am planning on using SSS Level 1A for my uocoming 6th grader. But I am not sure if I should go with SSS Level 1B.

For her reading level, she is just between below reading level and on level for her current 5th grade year.
Have you tried Voetberg Academy? They have music lessons, SUPER affordable and it works. Pretty certain they have ukulele.
I haven’t, but I’ll definitely look them up!
What grade/level will you be using for Teaching Textbooks?
My son is really wanting to work in the IEW Narnia study this year. He has never used the curriculum before. Language Arts/grammar & spelling are strong subjects for him, so can we jump in or does he have to go through another level first?

I don’t plan on using Abeka C
What was the classic book one again? Teaching classics? I looked it up and should I get the dvd set?
It's this one: Teaching the Classics: iew.com/affiliate/411162/node/13590
Yes it's a DVD set. It teaches you how to do it, and then you're off on your own forever with classic books. Best training ever and I'll never need another literature program.

They are from here: www.workshopplus.com/
@@mandy-maltz thank you! Yes I made it to the website but can’t find the kit specific to Exploring w Chemistry & Physics. Did you adapt one?
My 6th grader is going to be using BJU Math 6, a mix of Masterbooks and BJU English 6, Masterbooks World's Story for history, and I put together a very basic intro to Chemisty/Physics for her🙂
That sounds like a fun year!
Reformed history?!? What?!? That is AMAZING!
Yes!!! I’m doing an in depth review on Monday. I have a video premiere right now on my channel that you can bookmark and set an alarm for. Monday at 10am!

@@mandy-maltz Thank you for this assurance! I feel better going into prep for this upcoming year 🙂👍🙏
Looks like Fix it Grammar is very popular in the homeschooling world. 😊
P.S. I love your shirt!
Thank you! Yes! Fix It is one of the best!
Opinion on the apologia science. I'm doing it as a group subject with 2 kids this year. In your opinion is 1 lab kit okay for both to do together? Thanks!!
I haven’t used it so I’m not sure. Usually, most lab kits are for one child. You may be able to stretch it though.
Can you give a link on where to purchase the history?
generations.org
Does your 6th grader do all of these subjects in one day? I have a hard time fitting in the requirements and don’t get to elective type classes like art and music. Mine are younger though so maybe eventually they’ll have more interest?
We do the main subjects daily, electives 1-3 times a week.
What’s the ballpark cost for all of these things (if you didn’t have them already).? I have two kiddos - 4th and 6th grader (by age).
Hey Janelle! I honestly don't know, since it all depends on when and where you buy each thing. Some I got used, on sale, given as gifts, and from partner companies. Is poetry manditory?
