What a shame! So sad to hear that, but I'm happy to hear you started painting again! It's never too late to enjoy yourself and everything happens for a reason.

I am NOT an artist, or so I thought. After I went to a paint party, I changed my mind. It felt peaceful as I painted and the brush glided across the canvas. Tonight I decided I would give painting another try over spring break. After a short search, I found your TH-cam channel and so glad I did! The camera was positioned perfectly and your instructions were incredible! No distracting, annoying silliness, just a lesson that was explained so well, I have the confidence to give it a try! Excellent job! By the way, your calming voice adds the final touch of a nicely done tutorial!

I absolutely agree!!! You have a talent for teaching, it's a beautiful gift! The world is yours to take... continue your special craft, and you will go far! Thank you, for your time & help,. Katie
Katie, this was a GREAT lesson which also refers to various key aspects of seascapes such as distance, motion, and color blending theory -- you're narrative is so very helpful here, so clear and concise and fun! The only tiny little thing you forgot to mention was that the special brush you used for securely getting that horizon line exactly straight you came in with a slanted flat brush and dragged it with the high tip trailing the lower part of the angle... As a beginner I have had many frustrating moments attempting super straight and clean line with a stare flat brush.. If you could dub in spot of narrative (or a graphic word overlay) at that point of the film which would describe the brush and technique for that it might be helpful. I am a huge fan of yours, I love all your work, and I especially love your tutorial sessions... You are a capable, generous and charming teacher! THANK YOU for sharing your passion with the world.
Thanks so much, I'm really glad you have found it helpful. I didn't use anything special to make the line straight. The brush just blended the colours slightly, which I mention and explain in the video. But the straight line was just hand-drawn and can be done with any brush. Getting a straight line is very often just down to practice and how steady my hands are that day. But if you struggle with this just use masking tape :) Hope this helps! I'm so glad you love the tutorials and really appreciate your comment :)
I, at 71 years old, am just beginning to paint again. I learned how to do water colors as a freshman in high school, over 53 years ago. Lately I've been doing string pulling and pour paintings. I love this tutorial as you go slowly, step by step. You are truly an inspiration. Thank you very much.
I got paint (acrylic), canvases, and paint brushes for my birthday. I went to see my grandma at the beach and she wanted me to paint her a beach scene. I am definitely not a professional painter, and this is my first time trying something like this. Your video has just what I need. No wandering thoughts, just helping beginners how to paint a beach scene! Definitely subbing!!
Im obsessed with the ocean, had several goes to capture it but found it difficult thinking how great the Creator is who actually created the ocean...and Im just trying to get it image on canvas...but followed your instruction over an older piece, and Im so happy with it. Thank You lovely Katie, so generous of you!!
Katie, thank you so much for this lesson. I finished painting it this yesterday. Wish I could post a photo to show how it came out, so others could see how great your tutorial is to follow. I still can't believe I painted it. Thanks again!!!
I've just landed on this video and for me this is not just a painting tutorial. It's anti depression, inspirational creative video which really makes my day ❤️💫
I chose your tutorial as my first dab at acrylics. I’ve done charcoal and watercolor and always wanted to try acrylics but felt out of my league. My daughter gave me an acrylic set and it sat for 2 years. I finally felt inspired and your tutorial was not only easy to follow; it was also calming and fun. And my painting is now hung at my work. I love looking at it everyday!! Such a pretty ocean scene!
I am just learning (Here in The United States/Ohio) to paint at 49 years old.Even the tiniest detail is so very difficult but I love the challenge.Katie breaks it down into baby steps and I very much appreciate it!! Brilliant artist!! Thank you so much Katie ❤️
I'm a professional artist for fifty years, paint murals etc. worked for Disney for many years, I still enjoyed your process and learned some things. I'm going to lead a painting tutorial wine and cheese event, Thanks. cheers
Thank you! I am 69 years old and I just started acrylic painting and just going into my 4th lesson. Never could paint or draw well. This is so wonderful and yr explanations are so helpful. Bless you.
I know you have said that you have not been to university and have not been classically trained but your teaching skills are excellent and your paintings are beautiful are you self taught great job
I received a BFA degree (Bachelor of Fine Arts) from the University of Texas at Austin, a good University to say the least. What I mainly learned in studio art, was to let your passion do the work and paint your surroundings as you see them. I also learned to critique all paintings, which is a civilized way to read the painter's intentions according to the style of the time. I learned how to prepare a palette and some mediums, but all else came from me, my gut feeling that is. Katie is a very inspiring young artist, unafraid, full of gusto and talent. I prefer her approach more than any "intellectual" class I sat through, but do advise nature and life drawing when one has a chance.
My daughter bought me some paints and brushes for Christmas because I said I have always wanted to paint. I am 65 and you have inspired me. Thank you Katie.
Me too. Would love to see the finished product. I find a glass of wine and a hairdryer make the process a little more painless. (Just gotta make sure I don't rinse out the brush in the wine!). 🤪
I wanted to paint so badly for years and couldn't find the time. Last year I decided to make time for myself and when I finally got a chance to start painting last May 2017 this video was the first thing I followed and painted. It came out great for my first time. I love your videos and your art. You are a wonderful teacher. Can you do some countryside landscapes and more seascapes and flowers? Thanks so much.
At 67 I decided to take the plunge and give painting a go. Katie's instruction was fantastic. I am over the n with my 1st ever attempt. I didnt have the exact t colours but I've still managed to produce a very good piece. Just wish I could show you all. Thanks Katie. Instructions were nit only very clear and but so easy.
thanks so much for explaining principles and details, that's very helpful. most videos just show the person painting with a happy tune but no 'teaching', no interaction. I learned so much from you. thanks so much!
The ocean paintings I have watched gave some dramatic detail Honestly I could not understand. As a beginner.. This video was so helpful getting started.. And at the end of the day, the painting on the video was just as beautiful as the ones that went into some dramatic detail in words, that I did not get here. So much easier to follow along and to do. Thank you for your easy to understand and follow along
Yes, the tips and tricks along with the how to's and being able to follow along with you, really make me want to buy some paint and get started!!! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent. 💜😊
I'm a 70yo woman, took up acrylic art & finished 12 paintings over 3 years then 8 months ago circumstances put stop to this & I lost my way with it all up until now. Getting back into it is by no means easy, I didnt think I'd be able to, but your tutoring is greatly helping & easing me along - you have a wonderful style and are most inspiring - THANK YOU!
Wow this didn't even feel like 50mins! Your gentle, soothing voice and clear explanations make it look somewhat "achievable" to a novice like myself. Thank you, Katie, for sharing your gift with the world 🙏💐
Yours is THE BEST painting page on TH-cam, seriously. You go at just the right pace, explain things so clearly, most of all your voice is so pleasant and relaxing and you don’t add in any loud, grating, idiot music like most of these American painter-channels (I’m an American, btw) Thank you so so much for your wonderful, perfect tutorials, especially in this time of surreal Covidlife! Which reminds me - have you ever played with Surrealism? I would dearly love to see what goes on in your art-mind in that venue! 🙏🏼🌹❤️
I have always preferred painting seascapes and was thrilled to see her paint as I have for years! She also gave me a couple tips. I love the way she builds your confidence when she clearly is an advanced artist.
Thank you Katie! I realise this is about 5 years old but I'm so excited to have found it! I do hope you are still creating videos, I'm off to have a look but whatever, I'll be giving this Ocean painting a try 🥰😇💕
Katie, I am just a newbie at painting waves, started a month ago and never felt I knew what I was doing. Came across your tutorial and thought I would follow every step you did and to my absolute surprise, the wave felt right for the first time, I had no idea what I was doing but got to the end regardless but with so much work, this was a simple breakdown and so well explained, appreciate what you are doing, a great teacher, looking forward to doing more waves and will be referring to your tutorial. Thank you so much.

Having just retired I decided to give this a go without any previous painting experience - loved the result and thoroughly enjoyed it - learnt so much and now so keen to do more - thank you so very much for posting this tutorial
I'm so in love with art. At my camp today we went to a paint and pottery place and we were painting whatever on a small tile and I did a very detailed beach something similar to this and I really enjoyed it, thinking about doing this painting of yours to help me improve! I'm 12 years old. I also watched the whole video!
Hi Katie, I want to tell you how easy your beginners tutorials are. I've never painted to this day but thanks to you it's so funny. I try to replicate your painting tutorials and I always get so many compliments! And I say "It's not me. It's the amazing Katie Jobling!"
Aww thank you soooo much Giovanna!! That’s so lovely. like when you first look at it, it looks super hard and like impossible to do but when you follow the tutorial correctly it doesnt look that hard only if you put your best effort in it, it will look good.
beautiful, thanks for sharing. we grew up around the beach/ocean, and i love ocean scenes. I oil painted 1980's then quit, then started again in nov 2022, (40 years later and 74 years old now).....i love your style of painting!
Amazing Katie. I have my first ever paint from this painting of a seascape. I never tried painting because I am afraid that I am not cut out to be even trying a new hobby. OMG, I found out that painting, even though I just decide to try it in my 40s, that it is so relaxing. Your teaching is very easy to follow and love the background music. I may not be a painter, but I love seeing what I have created. If I did not write my initial on my painting, I wouldn't think I was the artist. I love learning a new hobby. Katie, you are simply Marvelous!
Thank you so much for this video. It really helped me being more confident about myself after a few trials based on speed paintings. The thing is when its speed painting you dont see the most of the process. So when you try on your own what you saw, it happens to be a mess or I used to think so. But after watching this, everything is much more clear to see and I feel sorry for my trials I got rid of which looked just like this painting's first layer. I always thought they would never be a step of any kind of beautiful painting but you totally changed that. This real time video taught me A LOT and I think beginners like me should be patient and watch real time art process videos to learn. I cant thank you enough because I was too excited to sleep all night and couldnt stop watching your art videos and waited for tomorrow to try some of the things I learned from you :)
I’m half way through and I cannot believe how awesome it looks! I can’t wait to take more of Katie’s classes she is a great teacher and explains how to do all the tricks and tips! This also helps my anxiety and gets me doing something other than working and watching TV- thank you!!
Thank you for the tutorial for those of us who haven't got a clue about art .You explain everything for a beginner its essential .Other videos I've watched don't explain anything you just see them painting .
What an excellent teacher and lovely lady to help me in improving my work. She has given me lots of tips and she doesn't speak down to you. THIS IS A MUST COURSE AND KATIE IS BRILLIANT!!
I followed your tutorial and my piece came out great! Obviously not as good as yours but impressively better than I could've done by myself. I am proud of it, thank you for the awesome guide! You're gifted.
this is so calming and i cant wait to paint this... ive never felt like i wanted to paint something so bad and im only 11! you are great at explaining and i am going to go to the craft store tomorrow so i can make this!!! good job :D

Had a biking accident so I couldn't do much. My husband bought me paint, an easel and brushes. This was my first painting ever and it turned out amazing. I stayed up until 3 am to finish. Thank you for all your tips and advice. I did one more tutorial to see if it would turn out and it was also lovely. Found something NEW ... THANK YOU!!
I cannot tell you how happy I am to find this vid because I made this from your video, and I LOVED how it turned out, even though yours was still 10000000 times better.
Aaagh this is so lovely! I am not really a tutorial kind of person honestly, for some reason I just haven't got the patience to watch them and I like to try new things myself. But oh my, this was so so so lovely to watch! Your voice (and this video in general) was so calming I even think my 14 year old self who never painted in her life could actually do this- which is a really good thing! I found an old analog picture back I took at the sea a few years ago and I really wanted to paint it, so this video came at the right moment, haha!
So I'm six years after you posted this. I love the way you took us through this step by step. I watched others with no talking and my paintings did not look anything like theirs. I did not realize you also added a bit of water to the paint. Thank you so much I have subscribed and hopefully will find your other videos as useful and helpful as this one.
I can't believe I did this. First time picking up a paint brush since grade 7 art class. And it didn't even turn out badly! Thank you for this video. I plan to follow along with more of your videos in the future!

When all of a sudden the white lines on the ocean was added.. I wanted to jump in. 😃 This is one of the most beautiful life like painting ive ever seen. I compared it to all California galleries. I think you could paint flowers, i see that.

I love the way how you explain everything in regards to the layers and details. Thank you so much I really appreciate it and I love the accent especially being from the US
Thank you Katie for making this tutorial available on your channel. I set up a paint session for all the mothers in our family for Mother’s Day and they had a great time!
Terrific! I like that it was real time instruction (and I love that I have PAUSE). Thank you for listing all the paint and tools you used. I'll be trying this!
This was my first time ever trying a tutorial. I loved it! You did such a fabulous job walking through each step and explaining things. Thank you! I was looking for a healthy creative outlet to relieve some stress and this was perfect. I can't wait to try another tutorial from you. Your paintings are beautiful!
This is phenomenal to watch you building the layers. The painting just progressively keeps getting more lifelike as you build. The use of the red was such an amazing tip.

Can't wait to get started in my 60s. Carried the guilt of no good at Art all my adult life. 😪. Ready to give it my best shot!.

Lil Panda1235 OMG ME TOO! when it was my bday i also got canvas and paint and paintbrushes

They do not teach this at university. Quality has gone down the gutter in university and this is more classical than what university would teach.

Made this for my mother for Christmas last year. Her favourite thing is the ocean. She loves it and it’s hanging up on her wall! ♥️♥️
My daughter bought me some paints and brushes for Christmas because I said I have always wanted to paint. I am 65 and you have inspired me. Thank you Katie.
I am painting this on my wall! This tutorial is awesome!
Right now I’m about to add in the waves...
Wish me luck😂😂
Good Luck! LOL have you finished it? I would love to see a picture!
Good luck sir 👍
Or maam
Hows it going?
Your tips are trash and made me ruin by brushes and canvas!
@@phoebepepper278
Maube because your brushes aren't very good? Some brushes are really bad

I’ve worked in coloured pencils for 6 years and wanted to try acrylics for the first time. This tutorial is fantastic! Great place to start out 😁
thanks so much for explaining principles and details, that's very helpful. most videos just show the person painting with a happy tune but no 'teaching', no interaction.
You go at just the right pace, explain things so clearly, most of all your voice is so pleasant and relaxing and you don’t add in any loud, grating, idiot music like most of these American painter-channels (I’m an American, btw)
Thank you so so much for your wonderful, perfect tutorials, especially in this time of surreal Covidlife!
WOW...I can't WAIT to try this!!! Watched the entire video...now I need to try it!! Thanks so much for sharing Katie!!

Your video was very informative and beautiful! There is something about your style that I love and its the muted colors you use. Many hugs! 😊

I believe you're one of the best teachers online because you take your time and explain everything I have never painting anything before a couple of months ago I painted two paintings of your ocean wave and someone gave me $20 for signing the art paintings I'm 60 years old I used to study electronics computers put me out of business 😊
I’m really pleased you enjoy them 🥰👏🏻
I love to try and inspire artists to find their style and create beautiful unique paintings by following their creative heart. If you’d love to watch a little video that hopefully will bring some inspiration you can here: www.onlinepaintinglessons.com/learn-to-paint

like when you first look at it, it looks super hard and like impossible to do but when you follow the tutorial correctly it doesnt look that hard only if you put your best effort in it, it will look good.
Isabella Barker we run an art class and I say this every single class, with a good step by step tutorial the possibilities are endless!
Can't wait to try this. You are a great teacher. Slow instructions are just what we beginners need. Thank you, and keep the great videos coming ❤️
beautiful, thanks for sharing. we grew up around the beach/ocean, and i love ocean scenes.
Can’t wait to start it !
Just done my version- my husband is so pleased he's put it into a photo frame.
I am also in my sixties and I am just learning to paint. I love your detailed instructions. Your paintings are inspiring.
What an excellent teacher and lovely lady to help me in improving my work. She has given me lots of tips and she doesn't speak down to you. THIS IS A MUST COURSE AND KATIE IS BRILLIANT!!
Beautiful! The yellow light of the sun shining through the translucent blue turquoise rolling waves as it unfolds on the shore is quite fascinating.
I've never held a paintbrush in my hand but I was mesmerized watching you from beginning to end. Thank You!
I followed your tutorial and my piece came out great! Obviously not as good as yours but impressively better than I could've done by myself. I am proud of it, thank you for the awesome guide! You're gifted.
Absolutely enjoyed that 50 minutes of pure bliss watching this seascape come to life. One clever lady!!!
this is so calming and i cant wait to paint this... ive never felt like i wanted to paint something so bad and im only 11! you are great at explaining and i am going to go to the craft store tomorrow so i can make this!!!

I have just painted my first acrylic painting on canvas following this video and have had great comments from my friends. Thank you
Aaagh this is so lovely!

I did not realize you also added a bit of water to the paint. Thank you so much I have subscribed and hopefully will find your other videos as useful and helpful as this one.

Agreed
When all of a sudden the white lines on the ocean was added.. I wanted to jump in. 😃 This is one of the most beautiful life like painting ive ever seen. I compared it to all California galleries. I think you could paint flowers, i see that.
When the waves started to come up, I turned bit emotional and tears started to form. Thanks for teaching .
