My story: My name is Ashley Krieger and I'm traveling and painting in all 50 U.S. states. Today I take you to New Jersey to capture a sunset on the beach. This is my nineteenth state and painting. The colors I used in this set include:
cadmium yellow Medium Hue, quinacridone magenta, ivory black, phthalocyanine blue (Green shade), brilliant blue, Bronze yellow, and two titanium white. I also use bronze metallic paint, same brand. Paints - amzn.to/2RWkBHn and iridescent paints - amzn.to/2zcogdt Have fun painting!
The water is: brilliant blue, phthalocyanine blue, and white combinations. Add black to the blue in the shadow areas. White is used for the waves.
The sand is: Bronze metallic with white. Bronze yellow and white can also be used.
The sunset is: magenta with cadmium yellow and white (use water to make it transparent)

Wow! When that pink came in it really added depth to that scene. It went from a flat painting to a picture of the ocean. I like the way you had to wait until the sun started setting in order to show us what you were adding with that. Nice!

love this demo on the wildwood beach. I go every year with my sister and nieces and live an hour north of wildwood. Really enjoyed this. I started painting a few years ago.

Love your stay wet palette, I use the exact same one... it's great. Good for you for being outdoors while painting... that creates more of a challenge for sure! One day I will do that!

FINALLY! Someone with a REAL Step by Step how to paint something video for everyone. THANK YOU Ashley for EXPLAINING what you are doing and why. Unless you have a "natural talent", teaching art is MORE than just "watch me do it", you need to communicate WHY you are doing what your doing to help your students gain a deeper understanding of the tricks and techniques YOU are using. Although these may change from artist to artist, being able to learn a handful of these various techniques from different artists, and make them my own, has vastly improved my painting skills. Your approach is more like the late Bob Ross' method who took the time to explain the techniques he was using rather than just show you he can paint a picture over music. I can't wait to see your other videos!

A mixture of the two. I have always loved art. I have studied a lot, but most of it I learned by painting.

While she was painting and the sun was setting I was so confused, I was like where’s the sun? (I’m on the west coast) And at sunset it’s always a beautiful yellow, orange, pink, to a dark blue in the sky, and the clouds are practically cotton candy, aside that, it’s a beautiful painting

How can the ocean she paints look more realistic than your actual one?
If you want your ocean to look more realistic I suggest color matching what you see. I am playful with the colors, and therefore I don't choose to paint the colors in front of me. So less vibrant colors may help you get the realistic look you want. Have fun painting!

I’m completely new to this and it’s fast become my fave hobby. Helps to calm my anxiety. I wish I could do my own from ref photos but no where good enough BUT I do love your step by step tutorials. Sorry to hear about your stroke. My uncle had a stroke a couple years ago and now paints dots on furniture in cool designs. What a great lesson, taught on site! When you said beginners should stop (at the waves), I felt a little discouraged because that's where I am, but I think it is good advice, because as you said, we've learned quite a bit just at that point. I look forward to making the complete painting!
