    Thanks for the method. My problem was both bad bulb and bad contacts. Polished the contacts and replaced bulb and now is working perfectly. The carpet on the right hand side wall lifts up easily to make access to the contacts easier for a wire brush although it's fiddly to replace.

    Thank you for the video. I took your advice. What I did instead was instead of using a Steel brush. Actually just went to my Local Home Depot and got some 100 grit. Sandpaper. And yes sanded the contact points for a little bit until they were pretty much smooth. Did that for about 15 minutes or so we were take. And once I did that. Close the door. Fired up the Jeep. And the light started working again. Thanks again man for the advice.

    I just bought a 97 TJ to restore, and your videos are extremely helpful. Can I purchase new contacts? One of mine is missing.

      I’m sure if you check online you can find them. If not, you can check a junk yard

      I saw a video of some guy saying he found them on Amazon, but I didn't save the link. I'd check there first.

    Hey Phillip, thanks for the video. I'm replacing my tailgate and can't figure out how to remove the rubber gasket in the tailgate to be able to move it to the new one. Do you have any advice for me? Thanks!

      It may be connected with tabs that will be damaged when removed. If it’s attached with adhesive, you can heat it up with a heat gun and peel it off. Here’s a link to video I did showing how: th-cam.com/video/vC8nDhdLs9U/w-d-xo.html
      To attach it to the new tailgate, you may want to use Black RTV Silicone to adhere it.

    My problem is just the opposite. My third brake light burns but my right and left do not. All other functions of the rear lights work correctly. Any ideas.

      Have you tested the power going to the lights? Make sure you are getting power, if not then you need to test for breaks

    Any insight for a JK 2017 with the same problem?

    • @PhillipsVision
      @PhillipsVision  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the JK uses a wire harness to make the connection. You may want to unplug the harness and use electronic cleaner by CRC to clean the male and female ends. Those harness connections can get corroded and dirty, causing electrical issues.

      You may have to trace the wires and see where the break is.
