    I grew up in Stoke in the late 90s/00s, it wasnt perfect but it was nice then. Shocking to visit home today. My missus grew up in the soviet union and refused to move to Stoke. That speaks volumes right there.

    There doesn't seem any way back for the six towns. So sad, grew up there in the 1960s - left in '69 - now not recognisable. My dad had a butcher's shop in Longton when the pot banks were in full swing - customers queuing out of the door on pay day, the place was really busy and alive.

    17:06 Stoke-on-trent town centres were beginning to struggle back in the 90s long before the internet became a problem. The closures of manufacturing and the pottery industry is the real reason why our town centres began to decline and the council raising rental rates on business premises. It was also when the once known EEC trading block turned themselves into the present day EU.

    **Urban Decay** - Empty buildings and neglect.
    **Social Issues** - More crime and economic hardship.

    It’s so dreary and dull .I did not have a car and just walked into Hanley daily .I felt like a foreigner although I am from Uk .
    The back of my house were drug dealers ,it was awful.The streets were dirty ,potholes ,people looked depressed.
    I left in Late May 2023 I see tour video was shot in July .I saw mosques being built and old church turned into a mosque .
    My street in Cobridge was full of BMW and Mercedes but no one seemed to work .figure that one out .Anyway I will put it down to a horrendous experience and vow to never return ever to Stoke ,Hanley,Cobridge .For Ken Shit Hole 😂

At first I thought it was a theory until I saw a crime scene where a woman was s*xually assaulted and it wasn't even on the news. This is done for fear of the Irish rioting. The media reported yesterday on an outbreak of scabies in a city center camp but no word about an Irish woman dying on a Dublin street, destitute. A lot of them even have a place to live but pretend to be homeless during the day to beg. I got completely drunk and was a total idiot, I fell out with my girlfriends parents because I was such a dick that night. The hotel then was awesome, something to behold, top notch establishment. Really good assessment of Hanley during the day. Might add, when i have to go ie work, it gets no better at night. What happened?? Between 1980 - 1990, it was excellent and then it dropped off a cliff. Why?? Can this city centre ever recover?? I certainly never go during the day, shopping etc, Stoke train station for me where generally, its packed with all ages travelling north to Manchester/Liverpool or south to Birmingham/London all at Stoke on Trents expense. Then for some reason, somebody decided to build a multi storey car park just below where unity house once stood and nobody actually goes to Hanley. Work that out.

    • @DJMtv1938
      @DJMtv1938  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s taken roughly 30 years to completely destroy what was once a vibrant and busy town centre in the 90s you would have to be in certain pubs before a certain time if you wanted to get in the place if you went Yates after 9pm the chances are you were standing outside waiting to be let in. This city has been in decline way before the usual excuses of covid,cost of living or online shopping are used to hide behind a decline.

    I remember how all the Potteries thrived ... some 25 to 35 years ago, and clearly it was down to the pottery itself, exported all over the world. I saw for myself and visited the factories and watched artists painting fine China pottery ... but alas it all went into decline, the factories closed, the outlets closed. You have to ask yourself ... where was the forward planning by the successive Stoke councils? .... where was the help to develop and help entrepreneurial ideas? .... all questions that no longer matter, because it's possibly too late to rejuvenate. You only need to look at what makes up the local councils, and ask yourself, whilst they're all bickering about what to spend money on, indecisiveness and bad decisions have all helped the decline of the Potteries. No amount of "levelling up" will see the area brought into line the way it used to be. And especially since the fairly recent advent of the scourge of drugs ... probably the nail in the coffin. As you point out and diplomatically ... who wants to be mithered and harrassed by drug-users and immigrants? Nobody, so the footfall declines further and the real estate value plummets even more, eventually becoming a total wasteland. It's not just a shame ... it's a bloody crime. It sickens me to see it, but luckily for me but not selfishly ... I moved away with my job some twenty odd years ago. Great video and balanced opinion, I enjoyed watching it ... depressing as it is. Well done.
