What they’ve done to our wonderful country is criminal. Crimes against humanity. They should all be in prison.
I totally agree needs the people to make a stand.
Should refuse everyone to stop paying their poll tax.
Can't jail everyone.❤
Agree, but who are “they”
@@Daveydave51 politicians
Unfortunately They are Us . With online shopping and going to big supermarkets to buy everything. Plus people using cheap places like Witherspoon to drink and eat. So is no need for Towns like this anymore. It's just the way things have evolved. Unfortunately.
You don't need an office to sell houses . You don't need a bank to do banking. You can get a mobile hairdresser so don't need a hairdresser shop . You can buy fruit in a supermarket so don't need a fruit and vegetables shop you can buy meat in a supermarket so don't need a butchers. The list goes on and on . Towns are obsolete not needed anymore its just the way it is unfortunately.
What the hell has happend to our country it has become a cesspit
Have a look ok on your phone - is there an Amazon, EBay, TEMA, whatever app?
Immigration mate wake up ffs 😢
Very sad.
14 years of tory government
@@yulprentice4928Why would immigration mean a shop closes? If anything it would mean more shops open, because there's more people to buy things
If you drive literally 5 minutes out of Hanley you see two huge retail parks , one mile apart . They have all the usual big names , cinemas , marina , restaurants , hotel , industrial units , water park , free parking and even a dry ski slope . They are packed with people . The areas where they are built are where the old steel works , a deep mine and other old industries used to be . They were transformed over 30 years into the retail parks . Along with the loss of the main industries pottery and mining , plus internet shopping and atrocious council decisions by all parties over decades ... Gives a better overall picture of what is happening to the old towns . The community feel , independent shops , pubs , nightclubs and buzz of the traditional town centre has been replaced with huge corporate retail parks . Very convenient , easy parking but souless with none of the personal community feel of the old towns . The problem they cannot or will not address is what to do with the old town centres. Yes there have been promises of redevelopment but the last big scheme ... the developer went bust after everything had been demolished leaving a waste land . I could go on and on about councils decisions and developers but I'd be here for days . Positive note ... the people are proud and amongst the friendliest . They have been let down badly by all political parties .
True story.
Whether ,Labour or Tory, both your policies have achieved this. Really well done.👏😒☹️👏 shameful , disgraceful.
14 years of tory government has finished this country.
They taking it in in turns
@@patlong8449 Labour will add to it.
Country was bankrupted in 2008 under New Labour and we've been living off the Treasury's credit card ever since because the problem wasn't fixed by the Tories/coalition. Hate to think what state we'll be in after this Labour government.
Neither Conservatives or Labour are bothered outside London. One huge majority wasted by the Tories, Labour will do the same, Mark my words in five years time. Sorry Stoke I feel for you, the Politicians don't care though.
It’s the same in London mate don’t worry about that
Most of the money goes to London to keep the hoards of millions from around the enormous world that decide to live in the UK,especially London onto this tiny island an overpopulated capital, densely packed .
Freebies galore which attracts people to want to live here , its just creating devastation as millions more are allowed in, like our survival counts on more millions allowed arriving to live here at the exspense of the indigenous population, whose quality of lives gets more eroded away after another million and a half newbies arrives annually
It's country wide
@@patlong8449 You could be right. Thanks for your input.
Shops where I live in Stockport shopping complex most of the shops are close and boards up..
This is what happens when Britain doesn't produce anything.
That levelling up went well didn’t it??
The entire House of Parliament should be made to visit Stoke!
I dont think it will make much difference to be honest.
They want businesses in towns closed so they can develop shops in 15 minute cities
not for people in this country or homeless though
@@tracysmith-yv5lt its already happening in this country
There are huge swathes of people that live within 15 minutes walk of the places featured in this video. 15 minute cities would mean these places would become thriving again - especially in a city like Stoke-on-Trent with it's 6 towns. 🤦
It's more to do with the managed economic decline started by the Tories in the 80s. First the steelworks and mines closed. later on the potbanks closed. Manufacturing sacrificed on the alter of the hospitality sector and the financial services sector.
Brexit was the final nail in the coffin. We're the first country IN THE ENTIRETY OF HISTORY to impose trade sanctions on ourselves by cutting ourselves off from the most lucrative trading zone in the world - the EU - which happens to be right on our doorstep.
We get what we deserve for voting for this shit.
@@Rustinho And what about the high energy and rent costs for these shops don't you think that has a massive impact for them closing this past couple of years plus there was that lockdown bs that ended a lot of businesses and all by design for what I said previously for more 15 minute cities or districts that has no place in the UK and should stay in China.
Even the pigeons fly upside down, because there’s nothing worth shitting on.
It amazes me that people don’t protest about corruption in the UK. How many billions of pounds have been given to Ukraine to ‘save democracy’?
It’s been like this for many years. This is what happens when councils want to pay millions for a car park.. in a completely run down city centre. Makes perfect sense for the brown envelope brigade. Also millions on one way systems. It’s a very murky place in the day and at night. Just to think hanley was a vibrant party town about 15/20yrs ago. Lack of funding for these places down to governments building their posh train tracks at extortionate prices. Unwanted carparks and just generally abusing public funds for their own back handers.
Coming to a town near you!😢 All by design!
Just like the majority of small English towns just left to wither away
absolutely 😢
@@Michelle-gj7btI wouldn't call Stoke small, would you? Anyway, smart folk go wherever the money is. I know a guy from Stoke on Trent who lives and works in Edinburgh. He makes a lot of money and has a good life. This town is in decline. The pottery works are all gone. The only voices I heard on the video were in a foreign tongue. Why would anyone stay in a place like this with no prospects?
Exactly, why would they? And more important: Why has this happened??
@@heroldable Times change. Old Industries die out. They need to be replaced with new industries and that often requires investment. That may require central government money and a solid plan for rejuvenation. This may mean the old buildings need to be bought up cheap and pulled down, because they are not suited for the new purpose.
I get it. It's sad. It hurts to see a town like this. Nostalgia for past times of prosperity is strong in all of us, but sadly life moves on and we have to adapt or fail.
This is shocking 😮😢
The British love their out of town retail parks with all that lovely free car parking. Shame they've killed traditional town centres...
Wow this is so sad i used to live and work in Stoke on trent this looks like a dead place now this is shocking
So, Just like you then everybody else just Upped and Left.....you all must have had your Reasons to......
It's made me feel physically sick ! :(
The old English blood would not have let this happen ☝
😂
I was born in Soke-on-Trent in 1937 and lived , worked there until I was 29. It was a great, thriving place then. What a disaster now.
Oh my god. THIS (Hanley) 0:46 is the town where I used love to go shopping every Saturday. It was thriving, busy and clean with ZERO boarded up shops. THIS is the town where everyone around used to go out on a weekend to the many clubs, bars and discos. I knew it would start going downhill when the really good big shops started to close. BHS closed down and not many years after M&S and the giant Debenhams. I stopped going to Hanley about 5 years ago because EVERY TIME I came home feeling utterly sad and depressed. Now, it's even worse - much worse.
GHOST CITIES
with childish council signage and graphics, like you are 5 years old...
I was born and raised in Stoke and now live in Newcastle under Lyme…the decline of these areas over the last 20 years or so is staggering. I rarely go into Hanley or Newcastle any more to shop as there are so few shops to shop in. When me and my wife retire in a few years we are moving out of the area to somewhere with a little bit of soul and good vibe. It’s a real shame as the majority of Potteries people are very hard working and extremely friendly.
Same here and just moved to Cheshire. It's unfortunately getting like this everywhere with the home office hotels, etc -- Middlewich and Northwich are nice (either way, seek a soft water area it's great!). There's a really good property map that shows all the prices for Buying or Renting if you use Microsoft Bing Real Estate. Enjoy your retirement.
Our former 1st World country. Game over.
Then we wonder why people are glued to screens and virtual reality.
I went to Stoke afew weeks back for a rave at Keele University and apart from the small bit of the town centre in Newcastle Under Lyme everywhere was either boarded up and closed or massively run down -this is happening in every small town by design with no regeneration and as some people have mentioned it definitely has to do with these 15 minute towns/cities!
Last time before this I went stoke about 20 years ago it seemed a decent place to walk around and spend time in but it's upsetting to see our places going to pot like this.....
Stoke-on-Trent Council paid over 3 million in farewell payments to retiring staff.
01:15 You know the situation is pretty fucked up when even the charity shops are boarded up.
Towns in third world countries are better than this. Its an effing disgrace its been allowed to happen along with other towns and cities in the UK that resemble this.
Awfully sad. I grew up not so far from Hanley, used to go there all the time for shopping or socialising, it was a lively and bustling place in the 90's. Went back there for a gig at The Sugarmill earlier this year, first visit in a very long time, I couldn't believe how derelict and broken down the whole town was. ☹
very very sad
Yes it used to be a great place to go out and party. Now its cesspit of grimey people
Shopping on line and retail parks have destroyed the high street 😭
4 reasons for this decline, all over the country...
...Primark
Huge supermarkets
Online shopping
Out of town retail parks
Also all industry in the country has been shipped abroad.
@@edwardoneil3962 my city knows that all too well. Once with thriving Pottery, Coal and Steelwork industries, now the capital of Monkey Dust, a synthetic drug that is devastating the city. Like so many towns with industrial heritage, everything was shipped to, or imported from abroad, which in turn devastated communities. We never recovered, and little investment has killed anything that Stoke had to offer.
was it like this pre 2020 too or did it get a ton worse
@@CL-he4jzI suppose a lot more people realised that you don’t actually have to go out to get what you need, everything and I mean everything is literally at your fingertips, even work now for some people, I know people who still work from home from covid times.
My poor city i live in :(😢 it use be so good years ago now its druggies foreigners and take aways
I am from Australia and work as a contractor for retail and things are slowing down its going on every we're in the world. Keep safe keep positive Greg
Business 'TO LET' signs? Really? What a joke.
The overheads ate too expensive and customers are rare!!!
The customers are probably all dead because of neglect and poverty induced by ill health.
it would not be so depressing if it was not all done on purpose wait till the new flats and homes are build not for the homeless people and young adults
Its gone from being the world centre of excellence in pottery design and manafacture to the waste land that exists now. Even up until about 20 years ago it was still fairly vibrant. I wonder what happened?
The last 14 years happened
Islamification
A good place to film a apocalyptic movie
the girl with all the Gifts was filmed in hanley bus station with Glen Close it is very good film
Yes it looks like everyone has been abducted by aliens. It's empty and desolate.
Hi mate wow so many shops closed
Haunted town! 👻
the retail parks are doing alright, i was at Wolstanton up the road from Hanley today and it was rammed, struggled get a parking space, mid week too lol
all towns of stoke on trent are ghost towns
Looks like gaza
Bro in stoke we even have security guards working in charity shops like disgrace
Looks like that place is almost ready to compulsory purchase to turn into another new 15 min smart city !
All of these empty shops have got accommodation above them Stoke-on-Trent could be turned around
It has been turned around into a 3rd world import centre
Our once great city is only going to get worse now the devil is in number 10
everythings online
I know why don't we just complain about it on TH-cam then complain again and again and again. Complaining dont do shit you need to grow a backbone people and fight for your country and your freedom
SOT council have a lot to answer for and should be held publicly to account, any money they get they simply invest in themselves, bunch of criminals
Its getting like this in bishop Auckland county Durham area
The first shopping centre in the Newcastle section of the video was recently vacated for redevelopment. It is opposite to the now demolished old town hall. What looks like a new car park is currently being built on the old Sainsbury's site at that end of the town.
wtf ghost town
Soon to be a Islamic town coming soon
exactly, then Rayner is going to build lots of social housing for them as a priority.
Idiotic
The only way it would change is if people threw their phones in the bin ,.and thats not going to happen
I'm afraid it's beyond that now.
Even the crackheads have £1000 phones 😂
Ano coz everything's cheaper online,
Imagine if you brought a Hanley native back from 1924 and showed them this. They’d probably think it had been ravaged by war.
What the heck happened to my old hometown? Well, almost I'm from 'upcastle. I moved away 16 years ago, but wow looks like a Zoombie apocalypse.
Stoke voted Brexit and then returned Conservative MP's. How dumb.
😢
Yes, Labour would fill all these empty buildings with foreigners. The real problem is the internet has made the brick and mortar businesses obsolete or unprofitable, but you are so blinded by stupid politics you can't or don't want to figure it out.
Fuck all to do with politics. It's companies like Amazon that are killing the high streets and nearly a fiver for a pint? Fuck that, I'll get 4 pint tinnys from bargain booze for 6 quid. Hanley was decaying long before the EU was manufactured
You might have voted for them.i didn't.and certainly not for labour.
@@stevenmoses5807 Desperate people taken in by the lies.
Make the empty place available cheaply to creatives and artist and they will renew your cities for the future, they did it before and can again

Flats flats and online delivery all over 🇬🇧. Not much sense of community
The state of Britain is depressing wtf is happening here. The worst times
Greed is killing everything
I agree, and I believe greed is a mental illness, it’s called ‘Wetiko’
Anyone remembere the Heavy Steam Machine in Newcastle under Lyme ?
This is my birth place and has been in decline for years,it breaks my heart such a thriving city full of wonderful friendly people I agree totally with the comment here in they should be in prison to allow this happen ,stoke council are the worst just shows how this wonderful place famous for our China industry I see endless comments about it being a sh...... well be kind to the people whom remembered this city and all it was known for.
Before you label, look at the people that allowed this😢😢😢😢
I wish I could wave a magic wand,I watched this decline unable to do anything.
Although I've worked with a member of the council as where l lived drugs ,dealers were rife.
The result was having my car covered in gloss paint, also my neighbours we were also threatened.
Please called useless .
Some of those buildings have been like that since the 90s there's more chance of em falling down than anyone developing them unfortunately at this point they should just give these buildings to anyone who has the time the want and cash to do something with them better than leaving them an eyesore.
I penned it a few years back. Its called the Northern Wasteland
Alot of seaside towns are the same across the country need to pump money into them and create jobs for local people
Looks like hardly anyone lives there anymore.......
The UK is extreme debt, it pays 100 billion annually in interest rates, yet continues to giveaway hundreds of billions to other countries by borrowing it, yet it country rots away and welcomes millions more mouths to feed annually 😂
Beautiful 😂
Fucking hell, that is bad.
Did not realise this was happening cause im a southerner.
Governments have a lot to answer for.
The internet is a part of this decline
This is mainly hanley i worked there it was booming in every sense❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
My God this is BAD!!

What a Dump. Unfortunately that's repeated all round the country. My town is no better.
Every MP, Minister or whatever weak rendition of PM we've had these past two decades, should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.
In the 1970s and 80s things we're better when there was a lot less money about which don't really make sense. Things were cleaner and not as many buildings board up and closed.
OMG Ghost towns
I can't believe the site im seeing omg
Former shops may be turned into accomodation whether it's affordable for the majority is another thing Hanley is a disgrace years of neglect
Ah good old Hanley, never should have stopped Monday pound a pint lol great times here back in the 90's, such a shame.
What would arnold benett make of it all xx
These buildings could be converted back to residential but the councils don't want that The idea of rejuvenation of town centres cost to much to police...
This can dramatically be improved...
Have you got a light?
Many suberbs and centres in the U.S. are going the same way capitalism is finite ,greed will destroy it ,thats what its based apon.
