I don’t see why anyone is acting like he’s over explaining, this actually directly solved my problem! I was so afraid of damaging one of my modules (a 2 slot that was giving me a hard time sliding into the chassis) that I didn’t realize I actually wasn’t pushing quite hard enough! Definitely don’t jam it or anything, but sometimes it does take a careful little push once you know it’s lined up. I used a flashlight to squint through the little holes in the rack and make sure

For reference the other module I bought at the same time was a lot heavier and only required one slot so it slid and clicked right into place easily. The other one did not and required a little bit more of a push. Just make DARN well sure it’s lined up before you actually apply any force whatsoever. Hope that helps anyone that encountered the same issue

I understand some may see this is a 10 page paper" buti actually appreciate the slow approach as someone new to 500 gear, I want to take care of my investment and this video helped a lot. Thanks!

Ok great. This told me what I already knew, but gave me the confidence to trust it ;) So thanks for the moral support!

can the module be installed properly if it doesn't "click" in with some resistance?

It should click in. It might not be seated properly. Try looking at it from an angle or removing and putting back the 500 units around it.

Im in the process of taking my ITB studio to a Hybrid studio. Are the 500 series step down from the full rack gear? Why are they cheaper?

They're not a step-down, but rather a different approach. Because they're easier to make and DIY, they tend to be a little more affordable, and many choices in circulation. One of the reasons why full 19inch racks are so expensive is because of their power supplies and chassis...However, there are some 500 series modules that are $1000-2000. 500 series are powered by a 500 rack and do not have power incorporated into the modules themselves, and only have faceplates, (sometimes a full chassis) making them a little less expensive to manufacture. There have been discussions about headroom/power with 19inch racks, I'm not an engineer and not too familiar so I cant add to this. It's all about preference & space. Some people want versatility and don't mind working on a small scale (500 knobs can be crammed), Others prefer larger units because of the ease in dialing in settings with larger knobs. 6 19inch preamps will take up much more space than 6 slot rack loaded with an equivalent pre. hope this helps.

I own a focusrite solo and I just purchased a SMP juiceblock 3. Being that my focusrite is a preamp do I still need to buy a pre or can I connect my focusrite to the juiceblock and just buy a compressor and eq?

DarkSagan The main benefit of the 500 rack you have is that you can install a preamp that is vastly superior to your interface pre. I would buy a pre first and use comp and eq in your daw as you always have. You will notice the difference.

Honestly pulling from the knobs to remove the module is bad practice, just get a plastic pry tool or a guitar picks to slide under the gaps between the edges top and bottom and pry apart at the same time.
