    What’s your favorite piece of hardware??

    • @ShredShed
      @ShredShed 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My API's, or my Distressors. I'm really diggin the capi stuff since watching your vids. Great job as always man, you're killin it.

    • @XChristianNoirX
      @XChristianNoirX 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Still trying to figure that out lol. Could end up being a capi!
      You said you track guitars and vox etc through the Heiders and Vp28 platinum, using them for their different qualities, but didn't go in much depth as to which to use why.
      I still haven't gotten any CAPI gear, but I'm on the edge and can't decide.
      I'm stuck between the vp28, vp28 platinum, and Heiders still. You told me the Heiders sound good for heavy guitars, but maybe that's very general without knowing why.
      As far as non-capi, I'm actually looking at heritage for the Neve thing. So far, the demos tickle me just right compared to Bae etc.
      Thanks!

    • @XChristianNoirX
      @XChristianNoirX 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh.. And mainly I'll be doing tracking. Mixing is a plus, but I have to get the sources awesome to begin with and as close to mix ready as possible...and mix digitally for the time being.
      Lots of diwntubed stuff, but standard as well.
      I could get a pair of CAPI's or maybe 1 each of 2.

    • @XChristianNoirX
      @XChristianNoirX 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other thing is.. If it's best to get 2x at the same time for purposes of the units being calibrated together and sounding as consistent as possible.
      Maybe direct from capi is not a bad thing, but I actually liked a demo of the vp28 with the "cheaper" op amps in a demo I heard over red dots, because it gives a slight bit of more "chewiness" to the mids. I think it's the 1731 op amps, where most people go with gar or red dots.
      I just found the link here:

    Colt, Thanks for showing your gear. I love how you went over your Behringer gear and not knocking it down like most people do. You kept an open mind and used what works without spending hundreds or thousands on a patchbay. I like the Behringer patchbay because it's switchable on top. Most of my outboard gear is Behringer and ART.

    What's in the mic locker?
    As a secondary question, I would be interested in your opinion as to what generic rack items (not brand, but say, mic pre, compressor, etc.) one would need for a small studio.
    What could one get by with if he was to have one of each necessary item to record/produce/mix a quality track or album? By the way, live drums not required. Voice, guitar, bass, software instruments only.

    Question about using outboard gear with vocals. If you’re compressing and processing your vocals before they’re tracked, how do you tune them? Or are you only compressing them lightly before it goes into your daw?

    Very stupid question/number of questions, but: 1) is there a way to take the amps out of combo's and organise them in a rack manner, and 2) if step 1 is possible, is it possible to mix the signals and if so, what would be necessary or should the go to one mixer connected to one set of speakers? Again I probably sound like a baffoon, but this interests me, much, like I have a couple of amps each with their unique tones, tonal qualities, but having them all with different speakers is just not sensible in terms of usage of space

      Wayne Hartman. If your soldering skills are fairly good, you can save a ton of money, building your own capi pre amps. I built 4 vp28’s and it really wasn’t that difficult. The op amps were the most difficult part, they are smaller than I thought they would be🙃 and quite a few components. I bet I could build a vp26 in 2 hours way less components and they sound great!

    Excellent video. I love content like this....Very Interesting that you like the LCA 2B over the CL 1B. I love Tube Tech gear. Just top quality. I love the plugins too. Have you ever compared the LCA 2B vs a Plugin? Thanks

    Fantastic video! Quick question Colt (or anyone who can help).
    When you say that a certain compressor or EQ lives on your vocal chain while mixing, do you treat them all as hardware inserts in Pro Tools?
    I ask because I have a few hardware units connected to my patch bay, but not as inserts.
    I use a Summing mixer and everything is wired to the patchbay. Anyways, when I send the vocal to a certain output, it goes to a compressor. Still, the issue is that ultimately, the hardware’s output ends up being the final stage in volume and not the fader, since the channel fader is acting as the input to the compressor, making impossible to do any automation.
    I hope this makes sense.
    Any help would be appreciated 👍🏼

    Awesome videos man! I’m getting a 500 series rack together. What opto amps are in your BT50s for your vocal chain? What ones do you recommend? Thanks again for the great videos!

    Kind of a noob question: do you actually use that many compressors? :)

    Have you ever had to service your tube tech? I’m looking into buying one but have seen several people talking about the “adjustment” you have to make to them every six months. Just wanted to know your thoughts on this

    You mentioned at some point you owned a vintech 273 as your buss pre amp before the heiders.
    Why did you get rid of it ?

    Hey Colt,
    Just curious about your power situation. I see alot of those power guys and just want to understand how to power things and turning on things in sequence. How do you tackle this?

    Thanks for the video! Good stuff. I have a question for you. I'm currently setting up a 32 channel mixing console. I would like to use all mogami cabling but mogami is expensive. What brand of cables do you use to set up your patch bays and outboard gear?

    Hi Colt thanks for turning me on to Trace Audio. I got my first 312 with instrument. Built like a tank and sound great. What do you suggest the 2 track master. I have RN Summing going into a Tegeler Cream- Cream to Api 312 A to D THEN OUT OF API TO 2 RN 542'S THEN TO MY Aurora Lyxn N...I want to use the API A to D for GTRS and get 2 Capi's to take its place.
    What do you suggest. Thanks Colt.
