    I am new to gel nails, and a friend recommended Ohora. I bought a couple of colors, the top coat, remover, and got the the light free. It seemed easy enough, and the Ohora video was short. The first set I put on peeled off in a couple of days, and I was snagging the edges. Watched another video. No better. Then... I found your video. What a difference! You explain everything so well. I followed your instructions, and my second set lasted almost 10 days. I took your suggestion and bought the Squish Light. Really saw the difference along the cuticle. Thank you so much for this video! This is the best one on gels.

      I’ve definitely criticized brands before for making their instructions videos so short. I get it that they are trying to make it look super easy. And it IS easy, but it’s not a 2 minute process either. I’m glad my video helped you ❤️❤️❤️ it’s worth it to do a few extra steps to have a long lasting manicure.

      Haha yes, it’s a balancing act - I don’t want the application to be a two hour process, but I don’t mind spending additional 10+ minutes making sure it looks good for two weeks.

    Great video, thanks! Okay so as a resin artist, I can probably explain the science behind the acetone "trick": acetone and isopropyl alcohol dissolve, and/or break down a lot of compounds like resin, which includes these nails if you allow me to use umbrella terms for a bit. By dissolving/thinning out the ohora to adhere better to the nail, it's actually pretty dangerous because the dissolved resin particles get absorbed by the skin. Using isopropyl alcohol to remove spilled resin from skin is a very hotly debated topic in the resin art community for this reason. Some people swear by it, because yes it does seem to work beautifully, but there's an equally valid side that's very against it due to the harmful substances being absorbed by the skin. Hope that helps!

    • @kbeautyhobbit
      @kbeautyhobbit  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yes that helps!! Thanks so much! The reason I haven’t done the acetone thing is pure laziness - just seemed like a lot of work. I had no idea about that being potentially harmful. Thanks for letting me know ❤️❤️❤️

      Honestly, I think a lot of the ads just try to make it look like it soooo fast and easy but the application looks rushed to me. It’s not hard, but it does take a bit of time and precision. It’s still much faster and easier than painting nails. Thanks for the compliment and enjoy your venture into gel. It’s really fun!

    Thank you so much for sharing your tips and tricks! I am just starting out with press on nails. I ordered several from Dashing Diva, The Editorial Nail, and Ohora. After I ordered kits from Ohora, I read an online article where the reviewer said that she loved her press ons, but after 2-3 days they started to lift from the cuticle and snag her hair. The reviewer raved about the Ohara designs and recommended them only for special occasions, since they don't stay on for very long. I was bummed out after reading that review because I LOVE their designs, however I am SO excited that you shared information about the squish light. I have been watching your videos for the past few weeks and have been making purchases through your affiliate links (FYI, I subscribed to your TH-cam channel as well). Back in the day I used to get acrylic nails and while they looked nice, over time, my nails because paper thin. It took years for my nails to recover. Because of that experience, I was reluctant to do dip powder or gel, but I tried both for awhile, and stopped because I just didn't like them. It's amazing how much women are judged by their manis these days. The gel stickers are perfect for me - thanks again!!!

    Thanks so much for these tips! I’ve never tried Ohora but have tried Dashing Diva after watching your demos on how to apply them. Would sealing the free edge with a gel topcoat help with the stickiness I get after filing? I’m using the Dashing Diva Gloss, not one that needs curing.

    • @kbeautyhobbit

      I’ve never had stickiness after filing gloss, but I think applying a gel top coat would help since it’s not sticky at all after curing.

    Fantastic Video for newbies to nail strips!! Thank you so much for the taking the time to explain in detail the reason for your process(es). New to this whole process and am totally pleased to have found you for guidance. New Subscriber!! I saved this video as well so I can easily refer back to it. 💯
    UPDATE: I'm afraid the squish light trick did not work for me past day 4. I tried it on 2 sets of Dashing Diva Glaze nail strips with the same results. I meticulously prepped my nails before applying the strips and followed these steps to the letter. Maybe it works better with the Ohora brand, but the hair snagging is driving me insane. I have had some luck with applying thin coats of regular clear top coat every other day or so, which has helped, but still a problem. I do love the nail strips though over gel polish - - so I will continue to search for a solution to use the Dashing Diva strips that I have already purchased. I also tired the Ohora acetone trick to try to melt/seal the edge, but it didn't last for more than a few days before I got hair snagging. I may have to try to perfect that method more.

    • @kbeautyhobbit
      @kbeautyhobbit  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I prefer ohora because their designs are more in line with my tastes. They both last about the same. DD I think is a bit thicker.

  • @CarolHoladay
    @CarolHoladay 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I hated filing stickers before they were cured, so I now apply the nail sticker, trim it about a mm longer than my nail, and cure each nail for 10 seconds under a single-nail lamp (away from my stickers, of course), before going on to the next nail to harden them a bit. Once they're all on, I cure both hands and then use my regular nail file to file the nice hardened sticker down almost to my actual nails. Once filed, I apply a UV topcoat, taking care to cap underneath the nail just a bit to make sure that any little difference in length between the nail and sticker will be protected from lifting, and cover the rest of each nail, taking care to get topcoat around the whole edge of the nail. If a bit of topcoat gets on my skin, I use the pointed end of my nail pusher tool to remove the excess. Then I cure them again, and I'm done. They last so much longer, and my nails don't wear down as much from typing all day. I love both the squish light and acetone tricks, as I had never heard of them. They're now on my list to test out!

    • @kbeautyhobbit
      @kbeautyhobbit  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I wouldn’t do the acetone trick after talking with some nail techs. It’s not good for the health of the nail. I’m not going to explain it properly but basically breaking down gel like that right on the nail isn’t good for you.

      Yes. They become hard after curing and might crack if you try to cut them. These aren’t meant to work as nail extensions. If you are trying to use them that way, consider doing the extensions first, then putting the stickers on top

    Just did my nails with nail wrap stickers and I still got a few wrinkles despite stretching and smoothing out the wrap 😢 The designs still look good tho, but the perfectionist in me is crying 😂

      It does take a few tries to get really good at them. As a fellow perfectionist, I feel the pain!

    lol The prep pad they include is an alcohol prep pad, the same as those you buy individually. The box lists the 'ingredients'. Good video though.

      And for viewers who may not know, the 'squish light' is a stamper.

      The included ones often have a “paper” feeling thin base. The curad ones are a thicker fluffier base. I’m aware both have alcohol in them. That’s not the reason for my preference

      Nail stampers typically don’t include a light in them

    Great video and Ty for pointing out the filing afterwards. I gotta say tho that the 16 count scgs (huizi) work better if they are filed prior curing. I am not sure about edgeu since they are like 80% cured

      I’ve been meaning to try EdgeU. Never heard about huizi.

      @@kbeautyhobbit huizi is the manufacturer of the 20 count NG wraps, the 16 count sg wraps. They are the most available ones next to dashing diva glaze. Also huizi makes the 16ct and 22 count normal nail polish wraps
