[Tetris 99] how is this man still alive (22-minutes 1v1, 1420 lines cleared) (01-12-2019)

- christmas arrived early today... with a 35-minutes match???
i've decided to use amemiya's technique against him (4w mode), and despite having absolute advantage (100% vs. 50%), this man still survived for 22-minutes before losing, even finding opportunities to counterattack and nearly defeating me despite the huge advantage i had. how scary this can get?
as time passed i was kinda tired of going endlessly, asking myself "when this dude will give up already???", and yet i had to stay focused to not die of a surprise 12-lines attack.
the numerous misdrops i did at some point show the limit of my (weak) consistency that i still have to improve. but at this point, i wonder if playing a 35-minutes match is already a sign of being consistent?...
let's not talk about the lines cleared which literally annihilated all previous records...
i'm allowed to do a side-to-side comparison of it, so stay tuned until it comes!

@@purangki I believe it's an additive damage multiplier, like if you have 25% badges then a full tetris sends five lines of damage, and if you have 100% badges then every line two lines of damage
(oh by the way, the reason i stopped playing at the beginning is because i realized i was writing in a wrong chat for 2 minutes, and proceeded to delete all my messages :'))

Chris Madison I actually followed Wumbo first and have been for months and months. I love the guy. Watch every video right though and follow him on every platform. Only just started watching Doremy like a month or two ago. I just thought it was funny because the videos were posted at the same time and right next to each other and had the same topic (long 1v1) but Doremys was way longer. I don’t hate him one bit. I love watching his crazy recovery videos. This is just a funny little joke.
@@dazc9965 He's an absolutely great player though. If you're in the tetris scene and know players you'd know that he's certainly in the upper levels of skill. Obviously not the best but deserving of being called ONE of the best.
I stopped supporting his videos when I learned he edits them to make them appear he only wins. He goes (or at least used to go) pretty far out of his way to keep his #1 in the world image. I also dislike 4-wide, but I'm not going to complain about that, it's a legitimate strategy lmao
Wumbo is definitely insanely skilled, and I'd still be a huge fan of his stuff if he were honest, but it's hard for me to watch anything he puts out at this point.

What's the difference if you're at a 50% disadvantage?
Dlare Wolfe you do 50% more damage (I think) but since Doremy was at 100% amemiya had a 50% disadvantage

Doremy did 100% more damage, so his attack is 2 times as powerful as normal.
Amemiya did 50% more damage, so his attack is 1.5 times as powerful as normal.
Therefore, Amemiya had a 25% disadvantage, and Doremy had a 13.33% advantage.

This is an *immensely* broken tactic in Top10 to keep opponents on edge.
For people who don't understand what Doremy was doing during the entirety of Top10, here's the strategy in a nutshell.
You want to be readily able to send garbage via a Combo. C4W is NOT viable in Top10, so S4W is the most viable, followed by S3W.
With T99's Combo Table, you start sending damage at 1REN, unlike the regular 2REN. With this in mind, you can exploit Top10's garbage receive time greatly by sending small clumps of 1-2 damage by hitting constant 1-3REN combos, giving you ample time to build your stack inbetween the sending phases. This is the first part as to why this strategy is so broken; you can attack and defend at ANY TIME.
Naturally, with margin time, your damage is increased considerably. This is the second part of why this is such a broken tactic; at max margin time, you aren't sending 2 lines, but 12. This makes sending in clumps of "2" very underrated.
Doremy took full advantage of these factors to capitalise on damage, allowing him to win the match using short bursts.

Doremy seemed very defensive. Rather than full comboing Amemiya he would send 4-6 lines then build more and repeat to keep amemiya busy but not actually KOing him.
@@TheDarrenPR Margin time has already kicked in, so every attack that doremy sends, actually sends 12 lines of garbage to amemiya (not just the number of lines that is shown on screen). Even if doremy "full comboed" amemiya, it wouldn't matter, since amemiya is already at the maximum number of garbage lines to receive.
DarrenPR yeah. What that other guy said is right. It’s the most effective way to keep the opponent’s line queue completely full at all times after margin time has kicked in. The 2 combo is fast to build and will always fill up their entire queue in max margin time (I think it was after 16 minutes?). It’s extremely... extremely difficult to survive against

Yeah, probably stalling in the early phases in case an attack comes in, or taking a moment to check the opponent's game state
when his garbage queue is filled, he stalls so further attacks are wasted. When amemiya stalls, he stalls so amemiya cant make his attacks useless. Woey Jhite is wrong, doremy doesnt need to look at the pieces he can see them in his peripheral vision
A third of this game consists of dropping everybody else, the other two thirds consist of fighting Amemiya.

When you KO people in this game, you get badges which increase the amount of lines you send. Doremy has a 100% boost, while his opponent only has a 50% boost, giving Doremy a big advantage. In this game, he is going against a Japanese player called Amemiya (あめみや), who is considered to be the best player in the world.
Damn...reminds me of the 30 minute+ Planet Puzzle League match i had against a player from Japan. I won...but holy shit they were good...Non-Stop counter-match that was.

I feel like once you're in margin time, it's more efficient to perform individual double line clears instead of making two-combos out of singles. It's the same amount of lines burned, but you only have to wait through one line-clear delay instead of two, allowing for faster stacking.
