    I like how you do give practical advise, not pushing the high end products. I have had good luck with the PPG Diamond one coat ceiling paint from Home Depot. It does allow for one coat coverage over other whites, it’s thick, but you can one coat it.

    Hey Jeremy I wanted to first thank you for giving me my sanity back by making this video. I wish I saw it last year. I had an issue with lap marks on my ceiling that I painted in my family room. I'm doing my daughter's room now and had to repaint the ceiling and decided to do the same thing I did in the family room with the same paint and rollers and got the same terrible result that I got in the family room. I never used to have issues with painting the ceilings and started doing some research to see what am I doing wrong?! I used to use Valpar paint and switched to a regular behr ceiling paint thinking there wouldn't be much of an issue. Yea that turned into a nightmare. After watching your video I went and bought the SuperHide and did 2 coats. I looked at it this morning with the full sun hitting it and it looks amazing! I will never use anything different again unless you come out with a new recommendation. I also switched the rollers to the Purdy WhiteDove and I love it! I think the problem with that paint was that it was drying too fast and the rollers were garbage even though they were a #1 recommendation when I looked it up.

    • @pljohnny21
      @pljohnny21 ปีที่แล้ว

      Having the right equipment and supplies makes the difference honestly. I will have to repaint the family room at some point too because it drives me nuts during the day. Also, someone told me painting in the opposite direction of where your window is hides any lap marks that you might get. That's the other mistake I made the first time, I painted parallel to the window.

    Hey Jeremy. Thanks for all your content. I've been watching a multitude of your videos, and a few creators as well, learning about paint/painting. Really like your video duration and explanations. They have a good balance! I have a question.
    Which ceiling paint would you recommend for a room with a good deal of natural light? Also it's upstairs and certain places have low ceiling following the angle of the roof.
    I was thinking the BM Ultra flat you just reviewed eralier, but I'm open to any recommendation.
    P.S. Don't use Behr ceiling paint unless it's in a dark cave. Or you WANT to picture frame your ceiling and have sheen roller marks lol.

      Thanks for the feedback Matthew. Glad we can help. Our favorite ceiling paint is Sherwin Williams promar ceiing paint. It can be pricy if you don't have contractor pricing. Aloha Jeremy, thank you for making this video. I was wondering if you would recommend this paint for textured ceilings (not popcorn, more swirl-like). Although I know we can't hide the texture, we would like to try to lessen the effect by using a flat paint, and was looking at this one. Would you recommend a different roller cover for textured ceilings as well? Thanks for your help.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be fine with the Super Hide for your ceiling. Try 1/2 inch roller nap. One with a more spongy nap (usually yellow/brown color). You'll use more paint but it will get into the grooves better. Good luck!

    Thanks for the video - I'm a residential painter and have been eyeing this product as a potential replacement for my go-to ceiling paint, Wall Supreme Flat from PPG. I love Wall Supreme because of its VAE resin (which has a weird tendency to reflect less light) as well as its 0-2 @ 85 degrees sheen, which is as flat as it gets. But PPG is a pain to work with for a number of reasons. I noticed that the TDS for Super Hide Zero Flat says that it is also 0-2 @ 85 degrees, which sounded great but I was wondering about its coverage, consistency, splatter resistance, etc. So you've pushed me over the edge - I think I'll give it a try on the next gig.
    Cheers homie - and I dig your content.

      That is a distinct possibility. Promar ceiling paint is annoying, because I was unaware how Sherwin Williams priced it for non-contractors. It's stupid expensive if you don't get it at the contractor price, which I was unaware of when I made the review video of that product. Here are two alternatives for ceilings that are reasonably priced:
      Sherwin Williams - Superpaint Flat
      Benjamin Moore - Waterborne Ceiling Paint

    Jeremy, what’s the difference between commercial and residential paint? Thanks for your reviews.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of commercial paints aren't available to the general public. Some of the commercial/industrial products have specific applications and can be challenging to work with if you don't know what you're doing. That being said, there are a lot of commercial products that are just low quality cheap paints that are sold to builders and folks doing production work.
      Often times a paint company will package a paint or primer in two different labeled cans. Same product, but one is "commercial" and one is "residential". I know this is a convoluted response, but sometimes there's no difference between the two and sometimes there are products that would only have a commercial application. To be honest, it's kind of a mess to sort out Sherwin Williams product lines. I've recommended certain products to people and then find out that it would cost them $80 a gallon cause they weren't a contractor. I hope this was somewhat helpful 😬

      Behr ceiling paints are great... sometimes. The problem with Behr ceiling paints is that they vary in sheen from batch to batch. Behr is a "zero waste" company, so they're not the best about cleaning out their vats between batches (I heard this from a very honest Behr rep when I complained about this issue). I fell in love with i300 on ceilings for a spell - it was so flat! Then one day I bought some more and painted an entire living room and hallway - only to find that the most recent batch was more of a "matte". That was the last straw for me - no more Behr.

    • @Monarchski
      @Monarchski ปีที่แล้ว

      They make a stock color (01 White) that is a dead on match to SW Extra White. It's a beefed up stock color for better hide. It's not the pastel base they mix light colors out of.

    hi, i wonder if you can advise me? i have some imperfections on my bathroom ceiling, i'd like to paint over them to hide those imperfections, but i am worried that the shade wont match the existing paint that was already used by the previous tenant. i am disabled so i cant paint the entire ceiling to make it all uniform, i dont know if i am asking for the impossible here, but is there such thing as a white paint i can use on my bathroom ceiling that will allow me to just touch up the imperfections without it looking like two different paints were used? i also have some imperfections in the living room, so it would be super sweet if this paint would work on both rooms... am i asking for too much out of one product?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So you can get paint laser matched to the previous color if you have a piece of the existing ceiling to bring to a Sherwin Williams store. With the newer scanners they can often determine the sheen of the paint too. Usually when we do something like that we cut a small piece out and bring it to the store then repair the area. That might be out of your wheelhouse. Even doing that process you’ll probably notice a difference where you’ve touched up. That’s part of the issue with touch ups.

    FYI. I just bought a gallon of super hide for $36.99 + tax which is pretty steep, but in comparison with some of the other ceiling paints, waterborne, $62, SW , and even Behr Ultra $39.99 is still under those. Again, I am not a pro and maybe this is due to the new inflation prices as of 10/13/22. How is SW eminence ceiling paint as this I might get at reasonable prices on sale?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Eminence is not great in my experience. For whatever reason that's what Sherwin Williams tries to sell to homeowners, and it's garbage. Another alternative from Sherwin Williams is Superpaint Flat. It's not technically a "ceiling" paint, but it works well and we've used a fair amount when there were shortages. You may be able to get a good deal on that when there's a sale. My brother and I are in the process of finding the best ceiling paint for the money between Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Lowes and Home Depot. Once we do our due diligence we'll make a video with our results.

      It is not a paint and primer in one. In general paint and primer do two different things. Aura however is worth the price especially if a matte sheen is preferred.

      Hi Grisly. Appreciate the feedback. With our experience with Ultra Spec 500, we much prefer Super Hide. The Ultra Spec splatters more and didn't cover any better than Super hide. We also did a video on the Waterborne ceiling paint, which has a nice finish, but splatters and the thickness slows down production. For overall performance and bang for your buck we like Super Hide the best when using Benny Moore for ceilings. If you like something else better thats great. Criteria for ceiling paint is different for other surfaces. It doesn't need to be as resilient as walls, for example. In my opinion, concern #1 when it comes to ceiling paint is the aesthetic, and from there its all about how well it applies and touches up (coverage, splatter resistance, etc). Super Hide Flat is just fine on ceilings - low or high end.

      UltraSpec Flat has angular sheen, even with the new formula. Superhide is much better if you're going the builder's flat route on ceilings, it's one of the handful of dead flats still out there. Though PM400 is still my absolute favorite.
