We always freeze the small tomatoes in plastic bags. They are delicious for pizza and soups and sauces. When they are cooking they warm up and pop open. So delicious.

You're the third or fourth person to suggest this method so not I guess I'll really have to try it haha. Very low effort, I like it.

The clover looks like it's doing great. My favorite thing to do with extra tomatoes is just put them on a baking tray and in the freezer and then after a few hours put them in a Ziploc bag for soups, etc in the winter.

Love roasted beets with a bit of feta cheese while it's warm, olive oil, salt and cracked black pepper. Thanks so much for the tour Laura!

Your space is amazing! That lilac hedge is going to be beautiful. Any tips for how to successfully overwinter strawberry plants? My favorite tomatoes this year are Bronze Torch and Costoluto Genovese.

Thanks! I've never had problems overwintering strawberries but they're hardy to my zone which is pretty mild. I just make sure they have a layer of mulch when I plant them and then the dead leaves act as self-mulching in the winter.

I have the same problem with anxiety. I know it’s not easy i need to start doing my own videos so that way I’m less fearful of just being out on my property gardening. Your garden looks great keep it up I subscribed right away. :)

Opalka Tomatoes from MIGardener, USA. Great paste tomatoes, open pollinated. You can save seeds! ;)

Wow. Nice long garden tour video! The tomatoes look so lush and healthy!! The rest of the garden looks great, too!
Check out thornless blackberries for (big!!) pots behind the strawberry planters. There are varieties that are growing almost straight up and might be okay just "leaning" on the fence. Or clipped to some wire screwed on the fence. Mine are almost evergreen (Climate zone 7, Germany). There might be a "leave gap" in spring before they make their new leaves.
There is also an evergreen "cousin" of the autumn olive: Elaeagnus ebbingei - not sure if they would be okay in pots. They grow slower than the blackberries so maybe they'd be okay in pots for a few years and then you could plant them along the fence after renovating that. And check if Fejioa is coldhardy enough for your area - also evergreen, also not terribly fast growing. All of them produce berries/fruit.

and for more "smelly" stuff: trellis Lonicera caprifolium along the deck rail! That smell is devine and all sorts of moths, butterflies and other insects love them. I have them (plus a rambling rose and a clematis) climbing up my gigantic sweet cherry and I put a chair there because of the smell. When it flowers I could sit there all day and all night, too, because then the smell is even stronger 🤩

Agreed! I may have a lonicera already waiting in the wings for the deck rail 😉 haha. I filmed a segment showing all my potted plants that aren't in the ground yet but it was WAY too long to include in this video.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I'm intrigued by the autumn olive relative...I know those do really well here (to the point of being invasive), so that's a real contender!
I looked up feijoa and it looks like it would grow here but since the buds get killed off by temps below -9 I wouldn't get any fruit off of it.

      @@LauraStepney haha, that's awesome!
I think it took two years to start flowering (more then just very few flowers, that is) but it is worth the wait!

Looking great. I've put almost all my gardens to bed. Just have a couple zucchini and my cold crop cabbage. I had dozens of lady bug larvae on my asparagus ferns and dill. Also monarch butterfly larvae. I'm already planning for next spring. I live in a zone 5b and have to start my onion seeds in January to get nice bulbs. I did bluelake bush beans I love them going to try the bluelake pole beans with them next year. I also learned I need to plant more flowers with the vegies to help with pollination. Now our efforts go to canning freezing. I have a roaster full of frozen tomatoes in to slow cook to can sauce tomorrow. ⚘️🍅🪻

Wow! You're on top of things. I'm always surprised how early lower growing zones go into winter and then I feel so blessed to be able to be a bit "lazier" with my garden since it's warm. Low growing zone gardeners are the real heroes! Good luck with your preserving and enjoy your winter :)
