I'M BACK! February garden tour, a little nursery haul, planting pansies and some life updates.
It's finally time to crawl out of my cave. Last year really took it out of me and I just needed to SLEEP for 2 months.
Catch up on all the 2023 videos with this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLRAipVfSVSmc7eIE9sJbFCaaCEOrYMHuf.html
Today I've got a little bit of everything for you: let's take a look at everything popping up in the February garden, chat about my plans for 2024, do a little nursery haul with seeds and spring annuals, and plant the first flowers of the year! I'm also answering some general questions I've been asked lately about what's going on with life since there's been a lot of change lately.
The theme this year is to garden for fun. We're taking things a lot less seriously and hopefully that will get us farther than last year with a lot less burnout by the fall. Fingers crossed.

Is it too late to plant garlic? I don't think so! It's finally garlic planting day! If you've ever wondered how to plant garlic I explain it all in really simple terms. I'm growing the Music hardneck variety from my own saved stock. First frost hits the garden - scrambling to harvest my squash
มุมมอง 17610 หลายเดือนก่อน
It seems like out of nowhere the forecast was suddenly calling for frost on October 25 so I scrambled to get the squash harvested after work. The first frost has a special kind of beauty to it...the way it coats all of the plants...not killing them yet, just frosting them with an icy shimmer. Give it a few days though and the garden will be mush. Let's enjoy the beauty while we can. About me: H...

    In addition to chipdrop, I personally called every tree service in the area as well as my local power company, not all arborists sign up for chipdrop. I’ve gotten more chips from a little work on my own than them.

    I'm working on a bramble/blackberry problem in my garden in England - being next to a railway cutting doesn't help. My preferred tools are leather gloves, a grubbing hoe to remove the top layer and a mattock for the roots. Rather more physical than your approach 🤣 I'm now down to bare soil and go out on bramble patrol each morning to dig out new sprouts where there are still odd bits of root in the ground.

    How did this go? Current research has lead to recommendation that you do NOT amend soil when planting a tree. Just backfill with native soil removed to dig hole.

    • @LauraStepney
      @LauraStepney 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They're doing great. At the time it was what the nursery I worked at recommended so I just followed their advice. The asian pear tree is doing great and the cherry is doing ok (it gets hit hard by wind and doesn't like its location so it might not stay there much longer). I've planted 2 more trees since this video without amending the backfill soil and haven't noticed any difference between them and the amended trees. On the newer trees I added compost and mulch to the top around the tree instead of mixing in compost to the backfill soil. Hope that helps.

    Put some calendula in your meadow garden here and there, once they get going they reseed. You can try but I'm not sure if you'll get flowers this year or just leaves. But still worth it because bulbs are always better in the ground than in your house. If you live in a colder place you can stretch your planting time a bit later. Where I live in zone 8b the daffodils are starting to bloom now so it's a bit late for those.
