    I agree with the expert. A louder and deeper sound is better, and so is a father that spends time with his son. It is always great when you DIY and there are no surprises. With the titanium version are there any other advantages besides less weight?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The titanium version is street legal and most likely a little quieter. May also be a touch heavier. The carbon one has by far been the most popular of the two. Thank you for the kind words and for watching! - Van

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the Titanium exhaust for this one is a full street legal muffler and the Carbon is not. In this case the Titanium will be a little quieter than the Carbon. If they were both the same muffler offered in either a Carbon or Titanium outer sleeve they would sound the same. - Brian Van

      The Akrapovic Carbon is as good as it gets, no need to worry about that getting brittle and breaking IMO. It will look great for longer than you are likely to own the bike. I have seen 10 year old Akra carbon cans that still look great. - Van

    Why is this exhaust not street legal?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This slip on does not remove the cat from the bike, it only replaces the OEM muffler which would normally be "street legal" because it does not remove the cat. My guess as to why this system does not come with the street legal cert is that Akrapovic choose not to have it certified. Even though this does not have the cert it is in compliance with most (possible all) emission regulations. Kind of a grey area to be fair. - Brian Van

    • @jonasv19
      @jonasv19 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Europe street legal exhausts made for euro4 bikes can't have removable baffles/db killers. Maybe that's why Akrapovic decided it wasn't worth it to get it certified for the rest of the world? I'm pretty sure the US and Europe are their biggest markets and I don't think there's too much check ups in the US whether your exhaust is legal or not? Anyways, if anyone is deciding to get the titanium version just because it's street legal you might as well stick with the stock exhaust. The baffle is hard to remove (you need to drill a hole into the muffler) and with the baffle in the sound is as quiet as the stock exhaust is (sat on one today).

    Box stock OEM systems are designed with EPA-compliant restriction. Full system exhaust installation without either an ECU flash (un-restricting, correcting) will only net as much power as the OEM ECU is going to correct for, usually about +/- 10% fuel on stock maps. It will not go beyond that. Motorcycle fuel injection systems are simple and don't utilize all the sensors and feedback modern cars, for example, utilize. That said, OEM already runs pretty lean on MOST bikes, some being REALLY lean (15 or 16:1 in some cases) over certain RPM. Of course, it's very dependent on each machine. Lean conditions produce high heat and will cause damage over the long run. Excessive heat is the enemy of all engines. Big engine bikes put off big heat (many notice) because EPA mandates for clean exhausts, and as a result run hot. The ECU will not adjust enough when even more airflow is increased through the total system, requiring a flash (reprogramming) of the brain (ECU).
    Buying a full exhaust system for whatever the motive, and forgoing ECU flash, or piggyback controllers, is just DUMB and a DUMB mindset. People can do whatever they want, but that's like doing things half way. Leave it all OEM, or get it fully adjusted. The fuel maps should be dead-on perfect at all throttle positions, and at all engine loads, no matter what, after intake and exhaust mods. Ideal stoichiometric air/fuel ratio. To suggest otherwise is to imply that excessive heat or excessive richness are just fine because (insert anecdote) some bike somewhere has done something and isn't damaged (it is assumed). Damage isn't always obvious or immediate.

    • @sportbiketrackgear

      Replacing the OEM exhaust system does not produce the big horsepower gains it once did. The manufacturers have these bikes pretty dialed right out of the box today. While there are exceptions to every rule a rider does not have to get a custom map or fuel controller when they install a slip on exhaust. The OEM fuel management can easily compensate for the change.
      If you are installing a full system odds are you are looking for the maximum performance benefit. To get there you will need to flash the ecu or install an add on fuel controller with appropriate mapping. That said you can install the system and ride the bike for a bit without addressing mapping without having to worry about blowing the bike up. Over the years we have done this several times and have seen others do the very same thing with zero issues.
      While I agree the best way (full system installation) is addressing the fuel mapping I do not feel there is real risk of damage for most of the current sport models on the market today. - Van

      @@sportbiketrackgear Slip-ons, sure. That I agree with. Full systems require remaps. FI can only go about 10% max either way without electronic intervention (re-writing map values). Installing a full system is fine without a remap, if the person plans to ride gently whatever distance they need to go to get to a dyno. No hard full throttle engine pulls.
      I had a new 2011 FZ1 that gained 21 whp with full system, airbox hack, K&N, and ECU flash. Just depends on the machine. Some are restricted worse than others. Yet the peak numbers are only a small part of the overall story.
      A little research on the Ninja 400. There's an outfit that has prepped this bike for racing. Head porting, modified cam profiles, increased compression (gasket), the usual bolt-on hardware, and fuel tuning is netting 59 whp and 30 wheel torque. That's a LOT more than stock, granted it's somewhat of a "stage 2" so to speak.

    now i know that we dont really need a remap on stock ECU after changing to fullsystem. im a new rider and i changed mine to full system many told me that its gonna damage my engine in the long run and have performance issues. but i havent noticed a big difference yet. infact i think i gained more power instead.

    After installing this exhaust I’ve noticed my bike runs warm. Is this normal or just a coincidence?

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This should not have any significant impact on the operating temp of the bike. Does it just feel warmer or does the gauge show the bike running hotter? - Van

      Sportbike Track Gear just slip on exhaust. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s getting into the 90s here now where as before it was mid 70s. Bike is still new to me. Only 350 miles. But it doesn’t seem like it should be running that warm, I’m not idling for any excessive amount of time.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bike will run a little hotter when it is 90 + outside. As long as the bike does not overheat and runs in the operating range while riding (not sitting at a light with no real air flow over the radiator) you are good to go. Installing this slip on will not cause the bike to run hotter. Keep an eye on it and take it in if the bike starts overheating. - Van

      We did not have that issue with our system. I would check to make sure the noise insert is not loose. If that looks good then take a look inside the canister to see if there is anything loose in there. Please contact us directly if you need assistance getting this handled. Hi Brian. Just want to say how great your youtube and I.G content is👌
    Love the fact that you dedicate a lot of valuable content on the Ninja 400 as I have just bought one 2 weeks ago.
    I just wanted to ask:
    I have a 'Akra Can' already fitted to my ninja (the titanium one with the carbon tip. The road legal one that sounds crap).
    So I decided to take out the silencer. Boy was it a mission to take out but I finally/successfully got it out.
    Could you please tell me how it will change the overall running of the bike? Do I need to be aware of:
    gain/loss of power?
    Change in fuel consumption?
    Overall speed?
    Daily running issues?
    Apart from that I am really glad that I have done it as it sounds a little more mega bitch ass as you guys would say 😎
    Lots more beef to the exhaust now with the odd nice sounding overflow noises 👌
    Hope you can help me with any info regarding this.
    Thanks again for the great content. Wai.

      Thank you for the kind words! Removing the insert will reduce the power just a touch while making the bike sound a whole lot better. If you are not racing the bike and fighting for wins you don't have anything to worry about IMO. We are only talking about .5 - .75 hp. - Van
