    Bryan Cranston is not a method actor. He’s just a phenomenal actor who can snap in and out of a character. I feel like calling him a method actor downplays how amazing of an actor he really is

      I’m pretty late but method acting isn’t you staying in character 24/7 it’s just you finding you’re own specific methods to understand the character’s mindset, while adding in real emotion, to give a realistic performance

  • @YourBlackLocal

    Bryan Cranston isn’t a method actor,
    Vince Gilligan is on record saying that Bryan could be talking about a sports game and get into role the second they say action.

      I can't imagine how you can't be at least part method actor. Like you have to understand the character to portray him, no? I don't know if it's really a black and white thing...
      Ah you were responding directly to the claim that he IS a method actor. I'm not sure what Gilligan said or not, or how correct he is in his assessment, my original point still stands though, I don't think it's really a black and white issue. If what you say is correct, he is probably not extremely far on the scale to the method acting side.

      @UCTh_yz3WKcqnGHgTeLSqMUw understanding the character is important - but that isn't the same thing as method acting. method acting is being in-character before they yell action and after they yell cut. bryan cranston doesn't do that, so he isn't a method actor.
      Also, being method doesn't give you a 'deeper' understanding of a character, it just makes you a difficult person to work with.

    Aaron Paul has no formal acting training. Which makes his performance as Jesse all the more impressive. Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston both appeared on episodes of The X-Files. Vince Gilligan, the creator and show runner for Breaking Bad, was a writer on The X-Files and that's where he knew Paul and Cranston from. He even specifically wanted Bryan Cranston for the role of Walt because he was so impressed by Cranston's performance on The X-Files.
    That scene with Jesse holding the gun on Walt was one of the most tense scenes ever. You really thought for a moment that Jesse was going to kill Walt. That would have been a hell of an ending.

    • @SantiHRod
      @SantiHRod 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Matt Ruller And would’ve save Jesse a lot of troubles, like Andrea leaving him, Todd killing Drew, going back into drugs, the harassment of those two detectives, the harassment of Hank, the Neo Nazis having him as a slave (I mean Gus also had somewhat of slavery, but at least his pay pretty well), and having Andrea killed. Although what would’ve saved a lot of trouble to Jesse, would’ve been for Walter to not have his Cancer in remission.

  • @autonomous8108

    If you look at his face when Jesse says the kid is poisoned, that's the moment he realized something was fishy. He fires Walt, then suddenly something happens that shuts down his operation, and gets Gus in a vulnerable position? The car was left unattended, so he knew if Walt WAS behind it, the car would be the only way of getting to Gus. So he left. It took me a while to realize it wasn't just random Gus instinct. It was his amazing detective skills lol

    Nitpick: Bryan Cranston is pretty much the opposite of a method actor. (You'd hope so too, since he also had to balance his responsibilities as a director on some of these episodes.) Aaron Paul went pretty method on this show and Bryan pulled him up on it when he started showing signs of burnout.

    • @ardenvida4598
      @ardenvida4598 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@MarkHogan994 no, he didnt do drugs, but he did start wearing Jesse's wardrobe constantly, he would wander out in the dangerous parts of urban areas in the middle of the night for hours on end, and intentionally messed up his sleeping patterns to get into character and understand Jesse better as a person. He's always talked about how the more he played Jesse, the more he felt a love and strengthening connection between them - to the point where it was sometimes hard to distinguish where his own insecurities and issues ended and where the character's begins.

      They use a stereo microphone, which results in a “binaural” audio track. So people to the left of the microphone are heard more in the left channel, while vice versa on the right. Which is cool when you need that kind of audio, but for reactions, you really don’t. They should just record in mono, or convert the stereo track to mono in editing. It sounds much more natural and less distracting.

    21:40 based on what we learn from Better Call Saul, I do think Gus is a psychopath. All the signs are pointing to it, especially (slight spoiler)
    animal cruelty at a young age, I have heard it's one of the typical indicators for psychopathy. But I might be wrong. He does seem to have genuine emotions especially on his brother's death. I'm not really an expert on these things, if there is such a thing as a psychopathy scale, I think he would be higher on that than other people, seeing how easily he can detach himself from human morality. Or maybe even a psychopath can genuinely love a brother and cry and be shocked at his death. I dunno.

  • @johns6014
    @johns6014 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Note that Walt spun the gun three times. The first two times, it pointed at him. The third time, it pointed at the flowers.
    The first spin: Turn himself over to Gus to be put to death; the death of Walter White.
    The second spin: Turn himself in to the DEA to bring Gus down; the death of Heisenberg.
    The third spin: An option to take Gus down himself; a chance at survival.
    From the moment that Gus took him into the desert, he had four options available to him: flee, kill himself to appease Gus, turn himself in to bring Gus down, and to attempt to fight back. Skyler inadvertently removed the first option, and the second and third options meant death, either literally or figuratively. He only had one option left that might allow him and his family to survive.

Walt had Saul lure Jesse to his office to get the cigarettes off him, then Walt went to the office and got the cigarette and Saul told him where Andrea lived, and Walt poisoned Brock. Gus may be a badass, but he didn't sign off on the murder of Andrea's brother. Those guys did it on their own. I think Walt poisoned Brock and then pretended to realize that it was Gus.
