Gus's iconic face/off scene took months of preparation, with help from the Walking dead crew. Which really paid off.

The "face off" moment is amazing in it by itself, but the only moment we see Gus lose his cool with that shout was so satisfying, RIP Gus, you were and will always be my fave character

The music that plays when Gus is walking up to the nursing home is a version of the song "goodbye" by the apparat just without vocals. Title is really interesting considering he is walking to his dead right there

Walt's change started I think when he lost his share in his company with his old friend. You still see that 'break up' on his perfect formula and his ways of defending *his* formula. And, having cancer, going to die, just emphasizes that. The whole 'for the family!' thing always was just a cover up for this. From my point of view ;)
The cancer was the catalyst. He had a death sentence and that gave him a way to take the risks in death he was too afraid to take in life. He wouldnt have to deal with the consequences. I think he was happy to just make enough money to take care of his family until he went to Gretchen’s. When he saw the fruits of his efforts, that was it.
Walt was always like this. His ego is what made him walk away from his friend because he did not like the idea of sharing his genius. Same exact thing that happened with Gus and Jesse.
It's why after Gus offered him millions he couldn't just settle. Ego.

tbh, I still don't think Walt is superior than Gus. Gus had control all the time, Walt was lucky in most of them, but all it takes is one bad way, like in life, walt exploited the flaw (prob the only one) that Gus had, because of the past. It's was one situation, but it cost Gus everything

The Director is super clever with these episode titles. ‘Face Off’, because Gus is finally truly facing off against his long-time hated nemesis, and because half his face is off. This director needs to give other directors some tips and pointers on exemplary writing and directing.
Never tire of the shock reaction from this ending. Masterpiece
How did Walt break bad so fast?
Probably because he was already pretty bad to begin with. Just waiting for a catalyst to be added. A bunch of inert resentment and self-pity and self-destructiveness just waiting for an infusion of adrenaline with a looming mortality accelerant.
This was the point I stopped rooting for Walt, but it's just as fun rooting against him. The final season is my favorite, we finally get to see a fully realized Heisenberg.
I am not sure I could do that, he does two bad things (that are the worst that he does). One is letting someone who was blackmailing him, who without question would have continued, and was about to destroy Jesse's life die. The other is (as a chemistry genius) using a dose to make someone seem poisoned in a specific way, but making sure it was not anywhere near lethal - the second being the worse.
Nearly every other bad guy is vastly worse in every way. Rooting against Walt is the same as rooting for people who make him look like Jesus. If I ever reached a point where I was rooting against Walt, the show would have basically not been worth watching for me.
I suppose I could be rooting for him to be caught, but that would be like watching the The Sopranos to root for the police to catch Tony. Would be bizarrely pointless.

@@wyterabitt2149 Many hate Tony in the last season, and with good reason. He's practically The Devil by the end of the series. In fact, David Chase's game was to see how much viewers could bear before hating the protagonist.
And Walter's worst action is killing Mike.
@@Ratchet2431 If he had to play that game in order to see if he could make people think that, it reinforces my point on how it is not normal to already be feeling like that and still watching the show.
And Mike was a worse bad guy than Walt. He took out many, many more people without a second thought. In person, no guilt. And he would have done the same to Walt without a second thought if he decided. In terms of ending a cool character it is the worst thing Walt does. In universe, it is nowhere near the worst thing Walt does. It doesn't even register as a bad thing relatively speaking, just bad guy taking out even worse bad guy.
@@wyterabitt2149 I don't see why it's so strange. I always hated Lester Nygaard in the first season of Fargo but I kept watching the story because:
1) I wanted to know if he was going to receive what he deserved or if he was going to get away with it.
2) I sympathized with the other characters, especially the other protagonist pf the story.
The same goes for Breaking Bad and The Sopranos. Even if you don't like Walter or Tony, you can like Jesse, Hank, Christopher or Carmela.
Mike was a ruthless killer, of course, but basically he did it because it was his job, an immoral job but a job nonetheless. His murder doesn't benefit Walter in any way, it's just a passionate murder in a universe where every immoral action has a purpose.
Also, it's a mentor killing another mentor.

Not foreshadowing. The showrunners had no idea what Gus's arc would look like in Season 4 when they were shooting Season 2. It was just a funny reference, nothing more.

I love how perceptive the girl on the right is. She always seems to pick up on small details that most people wouldn’t catch and then connects the dots to draw conclusions or make educated predictions that oftentimes come to fruition. Also, huge congrats are in order for quitting cigarettes; that’s no easy feat and you should be incredibly proud of yourself for doing it.

Walt Chose his pride over the safety of his family when he didn't take the money from Gretchen and Elliot and went into Meth cooking instead. Literally the whole point of the show is Walt chose pride over the safety of his family. Not a good dad

You know while Gus' one emotional attachment for hatred was really what did him in, a part of me personally thinks that it was somewhat his ego that brought him down alongside his hatred. I mean if you think about it, had Gus not have been so bent on personal revenge on top of all the recent things he managed to get away with before his "chess match" with Walt and allowed himself to be emotionally detached from his beef with Hector and allowed Tyrus to do the job instead in result then things would have drastically played out differently for both Walt and Gus especially. But it didn't bc in reality as Hannah said it best, Gus is just simply not the forgiving type; theres no way he would've allowed himself to let go of that part of history he has with Hector. In the end, HE had to do in Hector even after tormenting him about his family being erased as if that wasnt enough damage to scar Hector for like like how he did to Gus with killing his hermano. Goddamn, just the possibility of what could've been is one of the many components of what makes shows such as Breaking Bad so damn good!

I subscribed to this channel......many months ago, but only now am I actually seeing this 2nd reaction to BB show up in my recommended list. I remember having to downgrade my cable....'service'.....after the very 1st episode of season 1.....losing all access to AMC. Waited 5......5 &1/2 years....until the series finale, before running out to buy up all of the individual seasons on DVD. Binge-watched the entire thing over about a 6 week period. Then again with the optional commentary track ( on most of the episodes ) + the special features. Commercial-free. Been doing the same thing with Better Call Saul. .
Haven't watched a single one of your reactions to breaking bad (nothing agaisnt you guys, it's just a very long show) but you bet your ass I'm watching this one.

Gus' death is so unrealistic and ridiculous....and yet perfect. For a character like that, he needed a crazy, ridiculous, memorable death.
Walt is not as evil as Gus, he did not kill that kid nor would he. He just sent him to the hospital dont think he would have died from that.
But Gus on the other hand... he literally had kids working on his operation before AND ordered their gorillas do kill one of them!
My personal favorite episode. The battle between Gus and Walt was amazing and the payoff was nothing short of masterful

Walt shaking Jesse caused her to roll onto her back & there’s also the factor of him believing Jane was a bad influence on Jesse by getting him hooked on Heroin w/Ice, but the sad thing is we’ll never know what could’ve been.
Maybe Jane & Jesse would’ve actually gotten clean & lived a happy life overseas, or maybe they would’ve remained addicts & Jane would’ve blackmailed Walt for more money until one or both of them died from an overdose.
Watching the burn the lab scene is totally different now, knowing what happened at the end of Better Call Saul, S6, episode 8. 😥

Amazing episode. Walt knew EXACTLY how much to give Brock. Not enough to kill him but enough to do the job he needed to get Jesse on side. Walt is many things but he's not a child killer. Still, it's a new low for him, but damn he's smart! He planned it all...
