You can do the same what you do here by jut using attribute randomize to points before the copy to points. I would only use copy to points in for each if I need to offsett the time of animations that I didnt cache and some other rare situations. For basic stuff like color pscale just use scatter and align sop.

Totally. I have been doing a lot of work with crowds at my studio recently and as a result, have shifted to doing things like this based on attributes instead as you mentioned. ( I should have done it way sooner.) It is way more efficient and It would be quite painful to do variations by unpacking and looping through each agent to add variety. Thank you for the comment. I will pin it so that more people can see it. I think it is good for people to know this.

You can do the same with randomzing points color, it will transfer it to the copies.

Yeah. I just wanted something simple to show how to use the new method of using the for loops in Houdini instead of the copy stamp node. The point was never really how to randomize point color.

@@CGINerd why is it new? looks like extra overcomplicated step however you look at it

@Deviner75 there used to be a node that was called the “copy stamp node” of how we would do this with. This is a video that I could point to for many of my old tutorials that I have made in the past that used the Copy Stamp node and it is flexible enough where it can be applied in many different ways.

Hi! Thank you for the tutorial, its been very useful for me. Do you know how can I apply this method for deforming geometry? I'm trying to make many different rock deformation using mountain and points but copying to points only gives me the same rock, and don't really know where to write the script in the new mountain node, can you help me please?

You would basically put the mountain node where the color would be in this tutorial. Then you would design the rock style you would like in the end, put the randomizing expression in the seed value for the mountain node.

doing good. It has been crazy. I have been working on preparing all of my tenure paperwork for RIT because this is my last year before my tenure review. And I have some really exciting studio-based side gigs I have been working on that unfortunately I am under NDA for but hopefully can talk about once the projects are public.
