How Good Is It? | Donner Arena 2000

  • We are looking at the Donner Arena 200 today which is an FX processor, and amp modeler. The question is how good is it? In my own experiences with amp modelers I've been disappointed, but I was truly blown away at the Donner Arena 2000. All of the different amps sound very different from one another, and they don't sound bad at all. Though I will say the IRs on the Donner Arena 2000 were not my favorite. I would probably choose a 3rd party IR instead, but even with the IRs on the Arena 2000 I can still get a great metal tone!

    You pretty much have the best video on this unit. I thought it didn't sound like anything special from watching a few other vids, but this vid definitely piqued my interest. I just got a Valeton gp-200 delivered like 10 minutes ago though, so it might have to wait for a while haha.

    I was curious as to the pick dynamics?? Volume roll-off? I play blues with usually single pickup guitars and those kind of things mean a lot to my playing. It is rare for me to use my tube amps up to volumes for practice and recording levels. Stay well and thanks for the video!!

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! And thank you so much for watching!
      As far as pick dynamics go this pedal does actually pretty good. When I pick harder it reacts how I'd expect, and same for when I pick softer.
      When you talk about the volume roll off are you referring to the expression pedal that is built into the Donner? If so the pedal seems pretty smooth to me. I can back off the pedal, and fade in the amp in the Donner.
      One thing to also take into mind is that they've had some issues with their software for this pedal which allows you to load in your own IRs. Which is a huge bummer. So if you're looking to do that I wanted to give you a quick warning, but everything else seems to work great for me.
      I hope this helps! I had a great time with this FX processing pedal.

      Hey thank you so much for the info!! Yeah you hit the pickup attack question right on. I use soft and dig in dynamics in much of my playing, so your answer really helps.
      Bummer on the IR issue. I was kinda hoping that worked well.
      By volume roll off I meant responding to volume knob on guitar. Sorry, I wasn't very clear on that. :)
      Again thanks so much for your response!! 👍

    • @HighImpaktAudio

    Ive been trying to make a good tone for a couple weeks but i have had no luck, all of my tones just sound bad. Can you help me out?

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can absolutely help out as best I can!
      If you're looking for a great high gain tones I recommend the 5150 III amp I forget the exact name that they have for it, but it will be a variation of "5150 III"
      I usually start my eq around twelve o'clock and make slight adjustments to taste.
      Most likely I'll end up with the treble around 1 o'clock, the bass around 11 o'clock and the mids somewhere around 12 o'clock depending on how much mids you want.
      Then I always recommend putting a boost in front of the amp sim like a tubescreamer type Overdrive. I'll usually put the tone, and level all the way up with the gain down all the way. If it's too much distortion you can always back off the gain on the amp, or dial back the tone on the tubescreamer boost to like 12 o'clock.
      Also with as much gain as we have here make sure to activate a noise gate as well to cut down on the noise from the gain.
      And final for the high gain tone the Cab IR is super important for your tone. It will have the biggest impact. I always like a Mesa 4 x 12 IR it'll have the vintage 30 drivers most likely which I'm sure you know is kinda the industry standard.
      If you are running the arena through a cabinet that you own you won't need an IR. Doubling cabinet sounds will give you some weird sounds haha. So if you are using an actual cabinet that you own I'd turn off the cab IR section of the arena 2000.
      Clean tones are pretty straight forward. A good compressor, and reverb will always help smooth out the tone while giving you space to breath in between notes. And I typically leave my treble around 11 o'clock, mids around 11 as well, and bass around 1 o'clock.
      I really hope this helps! I was definitely able to get some pretty sweet tones out of this processor that I enjoyed. I hope your able to find a great tone for yourself.

    Arena 2000 or the flammer 200 wich best for distortion

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thank you so much for watching!
      Unfortunately I haven't played on the Flamma 200 but from looking at it it seems actually really really close to the Donner 2000.
      The main differences I saw were more feature wise being there are 200 preset slots on the Flamma, and 150 on the Donner.
      Also there are 30 Cab Sims in the flamma, and 50 in the Donner with 50 extra to load your own IRs.
      I couldn't find if you can upload your own IRs to the Flamma, but I assume you can because it has a USB connection on the back.
      The Flamma also has 58 amp models, and the Donner has 80.
      Other than that I'd say they are really really close to eachother. The Donner comes in at almost $100 bucks less so that's a big difference. I also really like the touch screen on the Flamma better than the Donner I think its laid out better.
      If you do get the Donner I do want to warn you that if you want to upload your own IRs the software to do that is having some issues. Hopefully they get it fixed. It's not allowing anyone to do anything on it. So that's another factor to keep in mind.
      Between both the Flamma, and Donner I'm not a huge fan of the Cab Sims already loaded on them. So I'd prefer using a 3rd party IR that has more warmth, and body to it.
      They both have awesome amps! And are really close. Hopefully this helps you make your decision. Im happy with the Donner other than the software issue.
      Thank you!

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! The only way to do import IRs at the moment is through the Donner control software that you can find on their website. Unfortunately they seem to be having some issues with their software, and isn't letting anyone do anything. So the next best way is if you have a studio setup when your Arena 2000 is going into your DAW turn off the cab on the actual Arena 2000. And use a 3rd party plugin like Two Notes Wall Of Sound, or ML Sound Lab has a free plugin called MIKKO. And these will load the IRs for you.
