    Think headless guitars and basses are on the rise. They are the perfect home bed/couch player guitar and perfect touring guitar. Agree about the active pickups though. Too much maintenance. Also, when playing into digital rigs, active pickups don’t really contribute much.

    Guys, FYI -- There is no difference in sound between 6L6 and EL34 tubes. The difference would be the circuitry of the amp.

    • @JohnWiku
      @JohnWiku 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The nincompoopery around power tube "sounds" is astonishing. These are clean power amps for how overbuilt they are, AND the tubes are biased stone COLD. All the differences we are hearing are the different tweaks done to the preamps between models. I would love that someone would slave one amp into the other, and vice versa, and y'all would have the proof the differences are all in the preamp.

    Good video! I like those riffs and song too. I love how warm that EL34 version sounds. I knew right off the bat based on the power tube configuration of each how they would sound but listening to them back to back really highlighted the warmth of the EL34 and chill of the 6L6. I'd be happy with either. That being said I'd choose the EL34 if I had to pick just one :) And BTW I like how you just went into it with your 7 string in drop A on the red channel... no cleans in sight

    Wow the in the mix really revealed alot of difference! Overall, the 6l6 smokes the el34 in the mix. I think the el34 sounded a bit better for leads…but most songs are composed of rhythm playing. I’ll take an amp that cuts the best every time! 6l6 all the way. I feel like the el34 will get eaten in a live mix.

    I like the 6L6 better. Tighter, more attack... it comes ready for 80s hair, to thrash to deathmetal chainsaw... amazing amp. EL34 is still a really good sounding amp. Just feels a bit more like a lot of other amps. Less polarizing. 6L6 has its own distinct tone and flavour......

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I definitely agree with the attack on the 6L6. For my style of playing i rely on that attack to be there for the chugs. and the EL34 has so super smooth sounding lead tones. I think ill have a place for both flavors!

    This is a REALLY good video. You have great tone, and great counterpoint. When you played each amp individually, I absolutely felt the EL34 amp was the superior model. However when you put them in a mix, the 6L6 one just sounded way better with the other instruments. Much like an older 5150 or a Dual Rec, it adds higher highs and lower lows, making more room for the other instruments. You actually swayed me from the EL34 model to the 6L6. Nice job!

    Nice comparison. One note is that EL34 power amp tubes have higher transconductance than 6L6’s, which translates to a bit higher gain. That’s why the Volume doesn’t match. And as someone else mentioned here, the bigger difference is in the Ch1 with OD which is a bit thicker on the attack than the 6L6. This isn’t as dramatic as some of the EL34 5150 III’s. And a reminder that the footswitch Boost adds an 8dB input boost even when the volume boost knob is down. So check that out✌️

      If you want bedroom volume, you're going to have to go with the 40W combo. That one can do bedroom/apartment volume at 1/4 power. Still not great, but definitely decent. The 80W will be too much for a bedroom even at 1/4...

      I did check the green channel when I wasn't filming and to me it did the same thing that the red channel did. It had that full warm tone. At least that's what I was hearing. Either way there was quite a difference in the voicing of the red channe EQ wisl that I showcased. I'm not sure if the green channel effects the red channel, but there was definitely a difference

    • @btnilc69
      @btnilc69 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Much respect to James Brown, but I do feel they left money on the table with this design, essentially replicating a tone that was not well received in the 50 watt EL 34 model...a fatter, flubbier version and calling it "warmer"...Definitely may have been beyond his control, in that regard. If they had gone away from that tonal choice, and created a more bright and tight, high mid focused M style channel, this amplifier would be incredibly popular, so much so to potentially cannibalize sales from their more expensive model(s), and arguably why that direction was not chosen. Again, just my opinion...

    Portability is the train that lazy people take. For over 50 years the gear artists played added to the artist’s image. Filling the stage added to the show’s experience & made fans want to be like & inspire them to want what thee Artist has. Now you walk up to a show & it’s just a person. Nothing to look at. They have a computer on the ground. The bedroom dweller escaped & is playing on a stage but forgot he was on a stage. Where is the show? Where is the background? What’s your band’s image & identity? Give us more! Think of all the classic bands that built an identity around guitar fashion & gear. Overwhelmed audiences have their eyes peeled on a stage. Think of broadway shows with no background on scenery? Boring & doesn’t do the story justice. So get off you ass & buy some gear, exercise the body you were given & get some real gear & inspire people & build an identity to you & your music. This is just my opinion. I’ve read other people’s opinion. I don’t need responses. Just leaving this for thoughts to be had.

    I personally think headless guitars are a great trend especially since Ibanez and Strandberg put out more affordable ~1k models they're not going anywhere. They're pretty convenient especially when sitting in front of a computer or TV or on a couch, and I've noticed they have great tuning stability and changing strings is quick.

  • @pstx2816
    @pstx2816 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Headless guitars trend needs to go.. Honestly it only make sense on a bass just cause the neck and headstock are pretty big and stick out. But i dont think active pickups are really dying out, i just dont see any signs of that besides Fishman possibly replacing them. But Fishman sound doesnt really raise an eyebrow for me besides Willie Adlers Fishmans which sounds good and crunchy As in plugins , I would to hate to see it to replace a real amp for live shows.. But for sure it is very helpful if you live in an apartment. But i yet to find a plugin that sounds better than my Diezel.

    I use a Floyd Rose with NYXL strings. I don't have to open the locks or touch the fine tuners between string changes (approx. 2 months) I believe that people who experience poor tuning stability: -Have a licensed tremolo. -Use poor quality or too old strings. -Have a fault in their guitar. -Even the high quality original or Schaller tremolo knife edges can wear over time. This demands a lot of abuse though.

    I thought for a second this was an old ass video lol. Kemper ? No one uses those anymore. It's all about neural dsp, or even tonex or line 6.

      You'd be surprised at how many kemper rack units I see at shows lol. I also have one myself for my live sets. It works great in my IEM rig. And I did mention the Quad Cortex (Neural DSP) I can't say I've seen the Tone X stuff live. I'll see alot of my friends use those in studio, and at home. And yeah the Line 6 Helix for sure I see a ton of as well. Then Axe FX has there own dedicated following
