    I enjoy watching your videos, I have a similar size trailer, 9600 lb gvwr, towing weight is about 7600 lb. Was looking to upgrade from my 1998 C3500/7.4 v8. Just purchased a 2024 2500HD Custom with the 6.6 gas. Haven’t towed with it yet but currently half way through a 3000 mile trip without the trailer and averaging 15 mpg. Very happy with it so far.

      Great! Thank you for watching! The 6.6 gas is top of my list right now. 15 mpg is pretty good for a truck this size! My old 2011 Tahoe got about 13 😅

    My son had all of them F 150..Dodge Rebel...these vehicles in 1500 class not great at towing over 9800 lbs range...entire vehicle shuttered...he went to a 2020 2500 Silverado LT with 6.6L. with 6 speed auto towed great no shuttering... and up graded to a 2024 LTZ 2500 with a 10 speed automatic...you get LED lights with this trim package...avgs about 10 mpg towing...but this truck moves better with the 10 speed vice the 6.

    I worked at a marina for 10 years and towed every day with a lot of different trucks,some of our bigger boats were over 10k pounds. It’s hard to beat a 3/4 ton with a diesel. We ran mostly duramaxes and you could set the cruise with 10k in tow. Can’t blame you for maybe wanting to stay with gas as the diesels are expensive to buy and maintain.

  • @MrGomjabber

    I don't care what 1/2 ton truck you want to pull that with, it's too much. You need more headroom, get a 3/4 ton. I am still considering the 2.7 Chevy as I only need to pull a boat while hauling the family.

    You have to do what have to do, I was watching your channel to see how the long term would be with 2.7 turbo. Because I was thinking about a chevy custom silverado myself down the road for my next truck.

      @larry648 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the same truck he has in Cajun Red. I love it, no problems. The 2.7 is fine. Biggest thing I town is a 21 ft boat. I haul hay, straw, feed and the occasional dead deer. Works for what I need. If I was to ever pull something like his RV, I would definitely go 3/4 ton.

    The 2500 silverado, I love the duramax diesel. 975lbs on torque! But if you look at chevy and want to stay gas, the 2500 6.6 v8 is reliable as heck and strong enough to pull that camper with ease. I was thinking of a diesel truck but I dunno nowdays. I would consider the 6.6 gas 2500.

      @jeremsgarage I've been around the gas 2500 chevy for awhile. It's a solid engine. The 6.6 is a cast iron small block classic setup with afew modern upgrades. Has allison 10 speed transmission nowdays. Reliable as heck. I wouldn't steer ya wrong on that choice.

  • @MrJRD2009

    Going up to at least a 3/4 ton is a smart move. Regardless of specs, the extra weight of the tow vehicle with a 36ft travel trailer will make a world of difference if you end up driving through a storm during one of your long trips. If I had it to do all over again, I’d do the GM 6.6 gas. I have the L5P duramax, it’s a beast and I absolutely love it but way over kill for my 9,500lbs 5th Wheel. For what I use it for, it’s wasn’t worth spending the extra $10K. Don’t get me wrong though, I love the truck!

      Thank you for the feedback! You are close to my weight on your fiver and that is good to hear that the dmax is overkill. I have never owned a diesel so the 6.6 gas is top of my list. Appreciate you watching.

      @jeremsgarage I also upgraded from a 2022 silverado 2.7 custom to a 2020 f250 powerstroke. The towing difference is night and day obviously. I never realized how hard I was pushing my half tons until I got this f250. It just feels so much more solid and you can feel how much more safe in control you are when towing.

  • @BamaTidefan1967

    With that kind of weight you would definitely be better off with a 3/4 ton gas truck especially in a mountainous/hilly place like TN. Personally I think a diesel is overkill not to mention a lot more expensive to purchase initially and way more problematic when you get some mileage on it and the emissions crap starts acting up. Also have you looked at HD truck prices lately? They're insane!

  • @tracybrooks215
    @tracybrooks215 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Better get rid of it before you blow the motor and tranny, I want that truck after what you put it through with towing that camper, even though you probably keep it well maintained, I mean depending on how much you tow that thing if you tow stuff like that every day then yes you need a 3/4 ton gasser is cheaper maintenance than a diesel but the gasser you'd probably get 6-7 miles per gallon towing your camper, I'm Chevy Silverado and Colorado fan though I have a 2 wheel drive crew cab Silverado with a 5.3 and it's awesome, I don't pull any trailers though just 300-500 lbs in the bed once in a while

    • @jeremsgarage

      5.3 V8 383 lb ft torque @ 4,100 rpm. 2.7 turbomax I-4 430 lb ft @ 3,000 rpm. Tow ratings of 9,300 & 9,000 lbs respectively. Number of cylinders or displacement doesn't factor. Son had 20 yr old 8.1 Chevy 2500 - 340 horse / 455 lb-ft torque @ 3,200 rpm. Now has 20 yr old 5.9 I-6 turbo Cummins 3500 - 325 horse / 600 lb-ft torque @ 1,600 rpm. So Virginia, there is replacement for displacement,.... it's a turbo. Cummins vs Big block GM has 25% less cylinders, 25% less displacement, but more torque @ lower rpm. Turbomax makes 12% more torque @ lower rpm than 5.3 V8 w/ 50% less cylinders & about 50% less displacement ------ w/ a 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty.

    best truck for the money, really its how much you want to over pay, like rams, are 50% higher than most, and rams your not getting 50% more truck, from what i see ford has the better rates, it really depends on what you want, the rams cabs are not that great the center arm rest for the driver is in a bad spot, its to far back.
    the chevy cabs are narrow, where the A piller is resting on your shoulder, if your in the drivers spot,
    fords i think have the better cabs they are wider
    All us based oems have issues, im a bigger guy, so you have to be comfortable in what your drive

    i think you will be fine with the 2.7, you pretty much driving a gas diesel. GM always under rate their vehicles. As far as hitch and being over weight i disagree, if you look at the 5.3 that tows 11,000 pounds same configuration the only thing that is different is the engine. GM only make one hitch for every truck and same suspension. The problem its the wheelbase i think the truck is too short to be pulling that long trailer. In my opinion truck needs a longer wheelbase.

    • @jeremsgarage
      @jeremsgarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for the comment. The 2.7l is a beast. And, thinking about it, my old F350 had receiver pin hole wear that was similar.
      The wheelbase is a little longer than older single cab Long bed trucks. I looked up the wheelbase of C30 Long bed and it was 133 inches. My truck has 147.4 inches.
      I may just upgrade the tires to LT tires and keep on rolling. The 2.7l and this truck really pull this trailer very very well.

    As soon as I heard "turbo truck", I was like that is not going to last long. I remember when it stranded you. Turbos suck for anything long term and reliability. You got millions of naturally aspirated engines with over 300k miles. Maybe you could find a handful of turbo charged engines and even then it will likely have had the turbo replaced.
    Go for the big dawgs, Tundra, F250 or F350. Shop around and you can likely get a great deal on Fords right now.

    Stay away from diesels, when def was introduced, the reliability went down. You’re not long hauling.
    Look at the Titan XD. Naturally aspirated V8, no cylinder deactivation, just raw power. The VQ56 is a time tested engine. The 9 speed transmission is proven as well.
    The TItan XD is the only true “heavy half” on the market. For now anyway. It and the Titan are being discontinued, this year.
    The XD not only has bigger brakes, heavier suspension, like most heavy half’s, it also has a heavier and bigger frame.
    Plenty of videos about it. TFL, and others, have put it through torture tests.
    Multiple videos of people loading it down, then putting the same weight on a 3/4 ton. The XD handled it as well, sometimes better, than 3/4 tons.
    For towing, I would stay away from the pro-4x packages. They are more for off-road. Softer suspension. Which sucks, as that’s the only package that offers a rear locking differential.
