The Trump supporters I know simply refuse to believe that he's done anything wrong, and that accusations against him are part of a political "witch hunt."
Everything Trump is guilty of , Joe Biden and the Democrats are also guilty of. Whether it's compulsive lying, corruption, taking classified documents home, denying election results etc. What i never get is how so many people only see the wrongdoing on the side that isn't theirs.
They think that there is something for them to gain. The system is not delivering for them, and they would rather break the system, rational or not. Critical mass. Once a certain level of polarisation is achieved the voices of moderation are drowned out. Safety in numbers, rational or not. Us versus Them. In particular, as a generalisation, people are happy to see the law applied to others but not members of their own family. The person who acts according to a principle of equity always pays for those who cheat. Good and bad do not balance out, even when making things as fair as possible.
I know right? it's insane how Sam Harris said "if Hunter biden had dead bodies of children in his basement i will still vote for biden" He also was ok with suppressing the hunter biden laptop.
My wife is Peruvian. A couple years ago she had the civic duty of working the polls of a local election. Shortly after arriving and before the start of voting, the mafia entered, and politely informed her that she should take the day off. Yeah, she left.
At least Trump is very open about who he is and what he wants to do. The record is very clear from looking at his past presidency and all the stuff he says in public. If people still choose to vote him into office then it can be argued, on some level, that the people agreed, democratically, to potentially end democracy.
That's the truth. There is core Trump supporter that thinks that democracy has destroyed an idea of America they have in their minds. And the way to save it is to have someone like Orban at the top, who'll defend white christian culture, stop immigration, halt what they consider LGBT propaganda, third wave feminism - that's much important to them than marginally improving unemployment or infrastructure. For them this is the fight for the soul of the country. And people like Orban or Putin don't have executive restrictions that US presidents have. And if those restrictions need to be lifted so that Trump can do what needs to be done so be it.
Gee, that would be something if partisan actors pulled strings with the the FBI and FISA courts and lied multiple times in affidavits to obtain warrants to target political opponents using a phony dossier crafted by the opposition party.
Obviously when people stop following court orders (the president included), we lose our rule of law. I still don't understand how 80% of Republicans and most Conservatives can support Trump.
Because most of what you think you know is fake. It really is that simple. The media has been lying relentlessly about most subjects of importance. We don't so much disagree on moral values as we disagree on what is real and what isn't.
A British writer penned one of the best descriptions of Donald Trump. It read: “Why do some British people not like Donald Trump? A few things spring to mind. Trump lacks certain qualities which the British traditionally esteem. For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace - all qualities, funnily enough, with which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed. So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief. Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly amusing - not once, ever. I don’t say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever. And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility - for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman. But with Trump, it’s a fact. He doesn’t even seem to understand what a joke is - his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty. Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers. And scarily, he doesn’t just talk in crude, witless insults - he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness. There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. It’s all surface. Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront. Well, we don’t. We see it as having no inner world, no soul. And in Britain we traditionally side with David, not Goliath. All our heroes are plucky underdogs: Robin Hood, Dick Whittington, Oliver Twist. Trump is neither plucky, nor an underdog. He is the exact opposite of that. He’s not even a spoiled rich-boy, or a greedy fat-cat. He’s more a fat white slug. A Jabba the Hutt of privilege. And worse, he is that most unforgivable of all things to the British: a bully. That is, except when he is among bullies; then he suddenly transforms into a snivelling sidekick instead. There are unspoken rules to this stuff - the Queensberry rules of basic decency - and he breaks them all. He punches downwards - which a gentleman should, would, could never do - and every blow he aims is below the belt. He particularly likes to kick the vulnerable or voiceless - and he kicks them when they are down. So the fact that a significant minority - perhaps a third - of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that: • Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are. • You don’t need a particularly keen eye for detail to spot a few flaws in the man. This last point is what especially confuses and dismays British people, and many other people too; his faults seem pretty bloody hard to miss. After all, it’s impossible to read a single tweet, or hear him speak a sentence or two, without staring deep into the abyss. He turns being artless into an art form; he is a Picasso of pettiness; a Shakespeare of shit. His faults are fractal: even his flaws have flaws, and so on ad infinitum. God knows there have always been stupid people in the world, and plenty of nasty people too. But rarely has stupidity been so nasty, or nastiness so stupid. He makes Nixon look trustworthy and George W look smart. In fact, if Frankenstein decided to make a monster assembled entirely from human flaws - he would make a Trump. And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.” ---Nate White.
Trump is liked by so many precisely BECAUSE he is like that. He's a proxy, an "in your face protest", against a system, a political order many feel has betrayed them. Trump is a congenital liar, but he's honest about the kind of thing he's going to do once in power: "Dictator for a 'day' ", pardoning criminals, taking revenge against those who opposed him, purging the civil service and military of the "disloyal". If America elects this monster, they won't recognise their country.
Well said. I suppose what i would tell the Brits is this: America has a big education problem, and the most undereducated are the ones that like Trump the most. And, Americans generally on both sides, hate our government so much, they literally wish to take a wrecking ball to the whole thing. Obviously this is short sighted view of the world, hence why I pointed to the lack of education.
Ah nice i love opinions from people who ignored foreign migrants raping white British girls in the thousands for diversity And the UK should just shut up its a joke and failing
Can any Trumpers make a SUBSTANTIVE argument in rebuttal that doesn't rely on Biden whataboutism or calling out "TDS"? The hour-long phone call between Trump and GA election officials is really worth a listen. I find it baffling that so many are blind to his thinly-veiled con. We can do so much better.

From 10,000 feet, J6 was indeed bad. But as we discover more things about it, its turning out to be rotten to the core. I find it ironic, the left hoots and hollers about J6, but when you point out Biden has targeted Americans with drone strikes, and the left is mum....that tells me everything I need to know.
Ironic, given that your comment hinges on a buzz word. You should watch what J6 actually looked like within the building - it looked like a tour. Meanwhile, the summer prior, the country burned in the largest simultaneous riot in the history of the country to the chorus of crickets in the media and from the government response. Yet when the federal government is the target of discontent its made into a tragedy compared in the media to September 11th 2001 (yes this really happened). So... Basically you explain the Israeli judicial reform... (As they tried to pass it). The key thing you forgot is that once you appoint loyalists instead of professionals most citizens get worse off. He did once say something about getting it prior to the 2020 election. Paraphrasing here, but said he understood how voters were put off by the other side that calls them racist, brow beats them, thinks they’re deplorable, etc… He didn’t say it was enough to vote for Trump, simply that he finally comprehended it. I don’t blame people for hating Trump. He is an a-hole and I think the country would definitely be better off if Hillary had won back in 2016. However, at this point in time I cannot vote for the Party that thinks millions of intruders coming over the border a year is great and anyone who doesn’t like it is evil. The Party who pretends white supremacy is the number one issue facing America. The Party that focuses on utter nonsense while 100 major cities across the U.S. are sinking into decay. No, Democracy is when we test the will of the people by lewtting the majority speak. Fascism, is when one man's will overrides the will of the majority. For example, take the Foreign Aid and border security package ...... The Senate, the House, the Executive, and the vast majority of the USA would pass the law, secure the border much better, and fund the Ukraine/Israel/Taiwan NOW. But unless the speaker brings this matter the people want to a vote, it does not happen. One man's will, Trumps in this case, is overriding the will of the American People, and her institutions and government. THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF FASCISM

It read:
“Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?
So the fact that a significant minority - perhaps a third - of Americans look at what he does, listen to what he says, and then think ‘Yeah, he seems like my kind of guy’ is a matter of some confusion and no little distress to British people, given that:
• Americans are supposed to be nicer than us, and mostly are.
And a remorseful Doctor Frankenstein would clutch out big clumpfuls of hair and scream in anguish: ‘My God… what… have… I… created?' If being a twat was a TV show, Trump would be the boxed set.”
---Nate White.

America has a big education problem, and the most undereducated are the ones that like Trump the most.

It would have contained policy-related positions, removing their civil service protections and making them easy to fire. It was never fully implemented, and no one was appointed to it before it was repealed at the beginning of the Biden administration.
The purpose of the provision was to increase the President's control over the federal career civil service. While proponents stated this would increase flexibility and accountability, it was widely criticized as providing means to retaliate against federal officials for political reasons. @@TheWaveofbabiesno it doesn’t. The 22nd amendment states that a person cannot be elected president more than twice, or more than once if they served more than two years of the remainder of the previous president’s term. It would say consecutive terms if it only applies to consecutive terms.

I've been following Sam Harris for a decade, subscribe to his podcast, subscribe to his meditation app, and think he is one of the most intelligent, articulate, sensible thinkers of the day. Also, I despise Trump and would never vote for him. That said, this whole End-of Democracy shtick is ridiculous garbage. It's Sam Harris version of "just asking questions". It's Sam Harris doing his version of Alex Jones. That he allows his guest to say it's possible that there will be no elections in 2028 without any supporting evidence, and with no pushback, just leaves me shaking my head. There have been one or two times (see: Triggernometry/Hunter laptop) where I have become aware that Sam has glaring blind spots amidst an otherwise brilliant intelligence. I'm just profoundly disappointed with the level of his derangement and lack of critical thinking on this subject.

"Democracy" is a euphemism for "agrees with me."

Consider Colorado’s decision a “legal theory” that failed in the court. 1 for Colorado, 150 for a failed incumbent.
When in power, and after wiping out the civil servants who put the constitution before the president, the situation is vastly different. This is no fan fiction, this is outlined by the Trump campaign and current republicans in power, even those who prefer a Republican candidate over Trump. Why enshrine democracy when it results in your party having minority power in roughly 6 year cycles when you can enshrine your party’s power indefinitely? Well, only the reasoning is to maintain democracy - which is in opposition to the first goal. So away it goes. Don’t look at me, look at Republicans in Congress. Their actions continue to show which comes first.

Democracy is still the best system . We are all product of different kind of system and in order to evolve and reach in the rightful and just way of thinking, of doing, of saying, humans need time, free space to move, to express the inner thoughts. 1. An off-hand comment is weak evidence (especially when it’s the primary evidence). Consider the feasibility of the plan itself - citizenry and government organizations *would not* tolerate it.
2. The compromisation of national security (i assume you mean his holding of classified documents past his term) is a bogus argument as a president has the power to declassify documents at will.
3. The continuous prosecution and persecution of Trump during, pre and post his presidency is more a mark on the current entrenched political powers than on Trump himself.
4. People have been locked in solitary confinement for the crime of being welcomed into the state capitol (I highly suggest you search up footage of the interior). Pardoning them is not only the right of a president - but eminently good; assuming they weren’t the small proportion of violent agitators. (Even then, try them instead of locking them indefinitely in solitary).

Th definition of IRONY: @batmanforpresident9655 is a smart successfull human being and a rational thinker.
I believe this is completely absurd. Reflection by projection.
Look, sometimes we need to suspend elections in order to preserve our democracy.
it already started to happen in previous trumps term(luckily too late); "A Schedule F appointment was a job classification in the excepted service of the United States federal civil service that existed briefly at the end of the Trump administration during 2020-2021.
It was estimated that tens or hundreds of thousands of career employees could have lost their civil service protections, increasing the number of political appointments by a factor of ten."
I thought so too it was absurd from Orban as he was a major actor destroying iron curtain and leading Hungary to democracy. And look what power does to one’s mind, he twisted all institutions to his favor and led the country to an electoral autocracy. Value and protect the institutions of democracy until it’s too late!
