What an explosive video .Lol. I was blown away with this video. I enjoyed watching Gail & Alex as always. Two strong woman . Determined and calm. This again made my evening. .respect to you both. Ignore the trolls. You have a great following
The fact that you might find something going back a million years (in parts of the island), or to the Middle or maybe even Upper Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman, Celtic, Saxon, Norman, Viking, and on up all of the historical periods (and those I've missed) almost in any river channel or streambed, or on a beach... it's just amazing. I realize that in Scotland the options are less extensive, but there you have your own set of mind blowing histories to sample. For that matter, where I live just having the prospect of rain the way you do is amazing. In South Texas, USA, we have been having brutal droughts in the summers each year, and the vegetation dies way back every summer. We have been losing big oak trees every year to the droughts, so seeing all of the green in the video is amazing.
Love your videos Gail and Alex. Suggestion for retrieving the sink, you could hire a block and tackle and some rope and winch it to the top of the bank. Also, you taught me a new meaning for a word, burn, for a small river. Cheers 😊
I am so glad you only found a piece of one, I remember when Nicola White found a bomb on the Thames. They shut down all traffic and exploded there surrounded by something. Thanks for all the video new and old. Have a great week!!
The brass ring or drive band has the rifling marks from the barrel of the original weapon that fired that round. The rifling is the twist inside the barrel that spins the round as it passes through the barrel to give it accuracy and keep it from losing balance and just tumbling. Those rifling marks are the same the police can use to trace a bullet to a certain gun as they are much like a finger print, unique to a certain weapon. Wonderful find and I'm glad you found it "after" it was detonated. 👍
This episode reminded me that in 1974 my husband was stationed in Berlin with the USAF. I had taken my new baby in her stroller to the building where we shopped on the base. The area was being excavated for an extension to the shopping area and suddenly we were told to move away from the area. A bomb had been discovered, people around me were saying a terrorist left a bomb. (We were having problems with Arab terrorists at the time). I said well, it’s more likely that it’s a bomb from WWll. Of course that’s what it was! It’s frightening to think that the workers might have set it off .
Beautiful surroundings! So mutch history and so mutch things to find and explore just around the corner. Lovely to se your brother! Didn´t know you have one.

Thank you for the scenery shots. I have never seen moss growing on trees in real life. The area where I live is not damp enough for that to happen and it is so beautiful to see. I love seeing your home and the surroundings.
What a very interesting lark this turned out yo be after the wash out at the raging river. Ooo it was a bit of a jolt to the nerves when you found the tail end of the 'bomb'. I think we were all shouting out...don't touch it Alex. Its wierd to think how long that particular piece had taken to end up where you found it. As for the real live bomb which was detonated/blown up at the end of your field, blimey not something I'd like to have picked up and taken home! That was some hole it left.😮 Walking through the woods part was lovely. That log with the 'dead mans fingers' was amazing. The stone sink that had been dumped, might be a great addition to your kitchen. Though i guess you'll be needing some strong men to help you shift it. I wonder if that was originally in your house. Wouldn't that be so funny, if it was and you decided to bring it back home. X
I've missed you ladies. Welcome back!!! I enjoyed watching Alex and Will having a good time while they were searching for explosive ordinance shrapnel.

Gurgling Burns and bombs, this is certainly a unique channel. I once spoke with a fellow who was a child during ww2, and he used collect and swap shrapnel with his friends. This must be a timeless fascination. Strange how so much thought and creative imagination can go into something designed to disintegrate.
I love your native words for streams and rivers, bothies and burns. Didn’t realize that peat bogs affected the water table like that and discolored the water. Do people still cut the peat like they used to in old times? Please tell your bother will he’s Brilliant lol
Gail & Alex- The stream fishermen here attach wool felt pads tot eh bottoms of their boots. They help give traction on the slick rocks. The felt pads also work well on slate, tile, metal, and cedar shingle roofs. I was on a lot of various roofs in my younger years installing antennas , and the old wool socks I wore over my shoes saved me from sliding off many times. The flat piece of metal is a driving band from an artillery shell, not an aerial bomb. The driving band contacts the rifling in the cannon to seal the gasses in, and lakes the shell spin upon firing and makes the shell more accurate. No matter how old a shell, grenade or bomb is, it can still kill you. Men disarming U.S. Civil War cannon shells have had them explode and kill them, and we fought that war from 1860-1866. (Yeah- They say the war ended in 1865 but fighting continued into 1866.). Properly sealed black powder, Torpex, ANFO, TNT, etc, can still be as deadly as when it was made. Many people are still killed every year in France, Belgium, and the battlefields when plowing for planting, and hitting an explosive shell and heaven forbid, a gas shell. It's called the Iron Harvest.
My word! Why in the world would the person who found an entire bomb want to carry it to his home?
