My uncle made it as far as the Ardennes from Normandy with the US 1st Army. A SS division (probably 21st) overran his position after they were recovering from the Hurtgen forest battles. He said you knew when you were up against the SS. They shelled the trees above his position in the forest, shrapnel and splinters coming down from the airbursts above. He and his foxhole mate were the only survivors of his platoon and both were badly wounded, ending their war in an English hospital. He was terrified and freezing and spoke little about it. The odds of getting from Normandy to the end of the war in a combat unit on your feet was very small, I've heard 2-3%. Re: Tunisian coin: The US 1st Army started in the North Africa campaign (Morocco & Tunisia). No other US unit was at both Tunisia and Ardennes, I believe. Of course, the Afrika Korps was in Tunisia, too, as well as the Free French. How close was his position to the area you covered? What horror and terror was taking place when these objects last saw light?
United States. Maritime Service. Training Station. Sheepshead bay, New York. Opened late 1942, and closed early 1954. Great find. Love you brother, keep those finds coming!! Take care!
i just recently started watching your videos. I've always been a huge WW2 history junkie. Your videos are amazing. Im surprised by every video from the stuff you find in these places. Im from the US and you will not find the mass amount of preserved WW2 artifacts in such amazing condition here. Its really cool to see how much stuff is just left untouched.
You all probably dont care but does anybody know of a method to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost my password. I would appreciate any help you can give me!
@Jesse Jude I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Sheepshead Bay NY was once home to the world’s largest WWII era United States Maritime Service training station , Probably the person using that US tag was in charge of the supply lines
Sheepshead Bay Is in Brooklyn NY, United States Maritime Service Training Station... same logo found on this website. www.usmm.org/usmsheavingline.html
This is why I love the community of people watching these programs. I had to Google my response. And then I looked a little deeper and learned more in 30 seconds than Google could hold a candle to
My mother was an antique dealer. Old vintage bottles and jars can be worth a fortune to collectors. In the 1st half of the 20th century farmers in the USA would dump them on their property. Decades later a lucky finder could stumble upon a gold mine if he knew that fact
wow, that's to bad about that guy not letting you video his collection, from the looks of the stuff you got from him it was high quality and in great shape. my grandfather and great uncle were both in ww2. my uncle was in the European theater,my grandfather in the Pacific, they both brought home tons of battle trophies.uncle even had a 250 lb bomb hanging from the rafters in his garage! they both passed away and I haven't seen the collection since I was a child back in the 1970s.thanks for sharing your finds with us.i lived in Stuttgart in the 70s as a kinder and also remember farms by the acres,i also remember falling into some freshly manured fields when we moved off of the road to let a tractor pass by,lol! I still get nostalgic when I smell fresh manure.lol! ☆☆☆
Very interesting videos, informative, I have a Daily Sun newspaper printed on 23 July 1944, got it when i was in England. I very much enjoy watching what you find. Hope you find some more items and hopefully some will be in very good condition for you.
I've waiting and anticipating for your next video Mike. Not only do I like your down to earth approach speaking to us but you share both the good and bad finds (the Whoopies and oh well just another) This was a great video. Love that you're back online and PLEASE continue on with your metal detecting my friend.
Wauw, thank you for your kind words. Comments like these is what keeps me going. Dont worry, I’ll be back again. If you want to follow me, please join the facebookgroup. i’ll try and post some updates, and perhaps ocasionally some clips there: facebook.com/Ironmikemetaldetecting/
Hey Mike and your gang greetings from England stumbled on your posts/ videos have subscribed keep them coming love them and having your son there who has a passion aswell reminds me of my father and i going round old American airfields in england over 40 years ago still have the bits we found
Most that were KIA were recorded by the allies with a aluminum tag and turned into a archive in the US or handed over post war. The original tags were either left with the deceased or discarded in the field after recording.
its unfortunate that the German dogtags don't include the soldiers names. makes it harder to reunite the artifact with surviving family. and i read elsewhere the AGerman govt isn't too helpful in finding the soldiers name, unless there are bones with the dogtag.
17:41 reichs arbiet deinst RAD capbadge. german labor service. 21:33 spange for subsequent ww2 award of iron cross 1st class to ww1 or before holder. congrats on the 25K mike!!!
Not sure if anyone else mentioned this already, but the dial you found among the luftwaffe stuff appeared to say Siemens on it. They were large suppliers of good during the war and even had factories in concentration camps such as Auschwitz. It’s amazing when you find something made by a company that still exists today which was a big part of the Axis during WWII. Fascinating really!
No way that could be original Kriegsmarine submarine icon. Those are way way to rare. It’s still beautiful and I love your vids. I have never subscribed to a channel before so you are my first.
That one coin that's oblong is normally a souvenir you place a penny in a machine and it flattens out the coin and stamps a logo on it. They're still in use at some tourist sites
Are any of the knives you bought still available? Also wondering if the medals you bought are still available for purchase as well. Thank you and love your channel!!!!!!
I'm just now watching this video, really cool. Almost looks like at the 13 minute mark you all found an airplane crash site. With all the plane parts you were digging up
Very nice find my Dad at one time had a dagger & a Reisepass or passport of German WWII solder which had two passports I forget in German what they call it sold them to some collected long time ago he also had a helmet it was The heer or luftwaffe which is sold also!
So if you’re finding a bunch a plane parts do you think there could be a wreckage somewhere under the dirt seems a little odd for random parts to show up in the Forrest
At 4 mins...U.S.M.S.T.S. Unites states Maritime Service Training School, located at Sheepshead bay NY, they trained Merchant Marine sailors for service on cargo ships during WW2. The Sheepshead bay school closed in 1954, and all maritime trining for the Merchant marine moved to the Merchant Marine academy, in Kings Point NY.
Additionally, there are (3) medals whose dates are unknown. Included among these are: U.S.M.S.T.S. sterling silver medal with "Sheepshead Bay N.Y." in raised characters on the front; and (2) more medals and a boxer charm with no engravings or content indicators.
Nice finds indeed, in 2 years time I'd like to see if I could get to Berlin aswell and do some detecting. For the giveaway, too bad I don't use facebook :D
In case somebody hasn't posted this here already,,,,the medallion from NY is the United States Maritime Service Training Station (U.S.M.S.T.S.) at Sheepshead Bay NY. It was opened on September 1, 1942. It closed on February 28, 1954.
Hi. I’m a new subbie so forgive me if you have answered this question before but the Id tags do you try to find their families ? I was just wondering if maybe they were listed as MIA and maybe the families would like it. Thanks
Nice Hunt Mike :) From thursday again on my channel. POW Camp finds 2018, part 9 :). This time with an award that you do not find every day. Gruß Michael
Pardon my intrusion, but am I correct in assuming that the dog tags that are not broken in half mean the soldier did not die? I laced one up in my boot, but it wasn't nearly that large. I've seen other videos of broken ones with bodies being brought home from the battle field where they fell for proper burial in the home land. Do you believe in past lifetimes Mike? I'm not sure if I do or not, but I was raised here in Mississippi with no strong feelings about the Civil War. I've been asked why do you feel so little about this? I answer I was not here. I was in India Wearing a British uniform as part of the Raj, and then on to Africa. It is a reoccurring dream I have of sitting around the fire with the Sergeant Major barking orders at us cleaning our Enfields and finishes with Martini Rossi weapons. Anyway, sorry for writing a novella here. I enjoy your videos very much. Thank you from a not so rebellious Rebel.
I have been trying to get a permit to dig Camp Grant a WW1& WW2 boot camp. They don't allow metal detecting because of all the unexploded ordinance. There are thousands of pounds of artillery rounds in the ground. I just want to do the rifle range. The back stop had several thousand pounds of bullets that I want to get and give to the museum and keep 10 buckets or so to melt down to cast new bullets to shoot out of my 03 Springfield and M1 Garand. Well all the other calibers that I reload. I have to get permission to dig there.
I maybe sold it to you because it is against the law to Metal Detecting and Metal Fishing in Germany, therfore he has to quit it. Be carefull, it can be a hard fine and a trip to Court. But VERY nice finds and a perfect stuff from the guy!! I would love to own it, but i would never buy it, i want to find it. ;) Im also Metal Detecting, hope we run into each other sometime!
Iron Mike Metaldetecting ow oke, ik zoek namelijk zelf ook maar altijd als ik op plekken zoek voor ww2 dingen vind ik niet echt wat. Doen jullie ook wel eens dat er een kijker mee gaat?

On the bottom of that medal you can see it says “sterling”. So that’s all silver. Very cool!
Thanks for that info

9:30 not a bomb, artillery shells. You can tell by the rifling ring around the base.

Hi mate, I doubt you will ever see this.. but if you do, how did you find the locations on the airfields? I want to go and visit to detect myself
Did you get the dog tag back to the family of the soldier
Did he state to you that he was going to do that?
They most likely have the other half
Most that were KIA were recorded by the allies with a aluminum tag and turned into a archive in the US or handed over post war. The original tags were either left with the deceased or discarded in the field after recording.
Thomas all of them? Are ur sure I guess not better u give the I’d the Red Cross

the marking on the little medal coin on 7:38 me thinks is the same as the switch made by siemsn on 11:36?
Elegant rarities. Good video!
The US medal was a maritime training metal from New York. Awarded after completing training
Are any of the knives you bought still available? Also wondering if the medals you bought are still available for purchase as well. Thank you and love your channel!!!!!!
I'm just now watching this video, really cool. Almost looks like at the 13 minute mark you all found an airplane crash site. With all the plane parts you were digging up
That was at a former Luft-'waffle' airfield. :-)

Zoek zelf naar ook al tien jaar naar militeria, lijkt het je wat om een keer samen te zoeken?
Mvg
👍👍
pardon my ignorance - if the dogtag is there is there also remains ?
Nope. Most of them were just thrown away after the war.
Been metaldetecting for a while now, and in all these years I never found human remains.
Iron Mike Metaldetecting cheers -
Most human remains were cleaned up by allied soldiers for the families of the soldier. Even the Germans.
I would be interested in buying some things you have found. Like german pins and badges
How much for the injury badge
Hello Mike how much for the k98 bajonet? With frog
