we went from 3 optimal builds-paths to 4 optimal paths and at least 5 optimal-optimal-optimal builds in just one path, and this is only using anti grav speed as a preferred stat, so wow, this makes the meta really "skill issue" based, this sounds like a win win
Something you could do to take this a step further is to come up with a "composite speed" stat, since you only ever use one of the four speed stats at any given moment. If somebody could measure the total percentage of ground, anti-grav, water, and air across all the tracks in the game, you might be able to come up with an actual statistically best combo.
The problem with this is track variance. Water speed, for example, matters a whole lot more on Dolphin Shoals than Wii Coconut Mall, for example, so if there's a build that can nix all water speed gains for ground speed gains (or vice versa) it'll perform better on the track it's more suited towards
@@steveheist6426 although assuming that track selection online is random, then statistically you can assign different weights to the different speed stats based on the probability of its occurrence and select based on that. someone did this though I can't find it again. but it was roughly across all tracks something like 80% ground, 15% antigravity, and air and water only being about 5% combined. which is to say almost not worth considering except to omtimize specific tracks for time trials.
@@DrSlipstream I mean sure, but even just experientially I think it's pretty apparent with a cursory knowledge of the (soon to be) 96 tracks, water and air are a tiny fraction of race time. at least far outweighed by ground, and significantly less than antigravity
This is a great update for mario kart 8 deluxe. The secret to build variety in these kinds of games is having enough different and roughly the same combinations stat wise, while still having some stats difer from one another. This way it comes down to personal preference on which stats a player values more over the others.
The biggest thing to me is how we can now optimize for secondary stats in time trials. Acceleration is probably the best online but rarely the best for time trials. I can now spec into builds with additional traction, anti-grav speed, air speed etc without sacrificing ground speed or miniturbo like before. Side note: I think anti-grav speed is less important online now than it used to be since almost none of the booster pass courses include it. If anything, air speed might be the way to go
Love this update and how so many different combos are viable now! My main was Link/Teddy Buddy/Rollers before this update so now that it's meta I am switching to the main man, MARIO
@Reezywyd I liked link teddy buggy because it was good and hardly anyone used him. Now that it's the most meta build in the game I would rather use something more unique like Mario/Splat Buggy/Rollers
I'd love to see a breakdown like this but specifically for Inward Drifting bikes! The fact they actually control differently means there are some people (like me!) who just prefer them over the "normal" drifting vehicles, so even if they may not be able to reach "true" optimal levels it'd still be nice to know which combinations get closest to optimal levels using them.
Peach/Diasy/Yoshi/Birdo Yoshi Bike/Comet Cloud Glider/Paper Glider/Flower Glider/Parachute Slim/Crimson Slim/Wooden That is an optimal build with 11 speed and 15 MT. I find it the best inside drift combo since it has good traction, a really important inside drift stat. Rollers make drifting a bit wonky, so you trade insane MT for better speed and having an easier time drifting.
Always used all standard kart parts with whatever character i happen to feel like just because I like the way the standard kart looks. Glad to see it's not even a downgrade to choose it anymore!
The amount of effort you put into this video is amazing. I mainly use characters I enjoy like Iggy, King Boo, Wario, Ludwig, and Luigi, but I'm happy to see that for people who want to play optimally, there are resources like this video that are available.
Thank you so much, i really put way more effort into this one than almost any other video on my channel, except maybe the first best builds video and my kusaan slide video haha
@@Bayesic that checks out given the title! Being a scientist in these contexts, to me, really just means putting in the effort when you have the means. Not a lot of people would even know where to start with this, so you’re providing a great service, and you know that serving the most requires doing it right! You met the task with the appropriate respect and care, which I feel not everyone can say for a TH-cam video, awesome work!
Quick little cheat sheet to find optimal builds in the new meta: If your character's GS and MT add up to 10, your body's add up to 8, and your tires' add up to 6, it's probably viable with cloud glider (though a fair few dip below 14 MT).
i think the weight stat should be considered more , i find that online having a bit more weight can make it easier to push ppl out of the way and take the lines you want. after the patch they’re all a bit slower but i find with lighter characters i slow down by taking different lines to avoid ppl. it’ll be interesting to see now that the optimal build isn’t on a heavyweight
thats why i use the gold glider in my build, it has 'extra' points vs some other gliders and the extra .25 is in the weight section (without taking a .25 point from handling etc) makes it my choice now that im using a medium mii instead of a large one or DK in my new build - but yeah weight is super important online where races are tight cuz you dont wanna be stuck avoiding contact vs ignoring it
@@MFjackson yeah from what i remember atleast before the patch i sued a build of dk/scooty/cloud glider most of the time though after the nerfs for speed i figurd id still wana make up for the weight lost by going from DK/Large Mii to medium Mii on standard kart so added that gold glider for the weight its interesting, you can add up the total amount of skill pionts and not all players have the same depending on the build too, for example i made one build that had 16 and 1/4 total points but my personal meta which isnt a real meta but pretty optimizd with the new patch but my new one has 18.25 overall skill points (would be 18 if i dindnt go from cloud glider to gold one cuz that extra weight stat doesnt come at the cost of anything else luckily...
Waluigi is my favorite Mario character and I want to keep using him, so Waluigi Teddy Buggy/Roller/Paper will be great! Rosalina & Link are cool too, and I've had fun with Medium Mii Inkstriker today.
I focus more on 200cc, and so far I *really* like how Birdo/biddy/rollers feels there! Birdo/teddy feels great too. There's always been more build diversity for 200cc online play than for 150cc, but over the past year more and more people started to use waluigi biddy since it was objectively the best at the highest level. This has completely reset the diversity, which is really cool to see. With that said, I feel TERRIBLE for time trialers who had all their records made obsolete overnight. Not fun for them at all.
Yeah it seems like a lot of people aren't thinking very deeply about the TT scene tbh. Like I have a 1:44 something on dDD 150 and I'm really proud of that time because of how optimized it was relative to the old world record. Now I can easily get a faster time with Birdo even on a bad run and it's like... I don't particularly care about fast times for the sake of having fast times, I care about fast times cause they represent mastery over the course
200cc is the future to be honest, people is getting pretty good at it, imo Nintendo should do a new VR lobby with 200cc and a freshly released 200cc Mirror. All tracks in tour have their R versions and are played regularly why 200cc doesn't have it is beyond me.
@@ChuyR. ngl I would rather play 50cc than 200 mirror LOL, but a 200cc-only VR would be amazing and show a support for the 200cc scene we haven't gotten from Nintendo in the past
Banger video - appreciate all the work that went into giving us a nice summary with your opinion + the updated website. Thank you for continuing to support and build the community!
I think this is a good analysis. I wanted to add a point from a hard-earned lesson as an ML practicioner that things might settle yet still on what the optimal (or "pareto-optimal") builds are for a given meta. There are oftentimes tiny factors, like kart size, that grossly impact how/what/where/when we make the decisions on what to use in online play or other. Even in time trials, the answer to a "better run" can't always be guessed by drawing a straight line from what we already know. It's very nonlinear sometimes. But we can get very close, and sometimes the linear guess based on the pareto optimal stats for our desired goals -- in this case, the best combos of mini turbo and top ground speed :O -- is good enough. Where you will possibly see the "nonlinear" side of things is in new strats that the new combos of carts unlock or make useless (like if we were depending upon hitting a certain ribbon of road for a jump boost and that gets moved in time due to a different cart being boost+speed optimal, etc) That's the great part and good news for y'all! Now it's up for grabs, and you have even more of a leg up on the competition a bit! Just keep an eye out for new shifts and possibilities, and see if you can indeedy score yourself a new WR! It's both easier and harder than you think IMO if you dedicate yourself to it.
Amazing video as always Bayesic. I love putting math to video games, it's one of the reasons why I love competitive Pokemon so much. I'm so happy that we get so much more optimal combinations now, I love being able to pick some of my favorite characters (namely King Boo) and also see more than a wave of Yellow+Purple online. It's a welcome change. As an added bonus, the Teddy Buggy is a much cuter combo than WWW, so it's less of an eyesore on the track, lol.
I've been trying out the Sports Coupe now and it's been giving me great results with the new boosts to mini turbo. I used to exclusively run Ludwig/Mr. Scooty/Button Wheels but now that's definitely going to change!
What's interesting about the invincibility stat not really influencing the waluigi wiggler meta, is that I do not think many knew about it. Heck, this video is the first I've heard of it
Thanks for the updated video! It was interesting to hear all the science of the Wave 4 Meta combos now and I didn’t even notice the invincibility stat in Wave 3 until I watched this video. As what this means for me, I have used the NOW Teddy/Cat Cruiser combos for fun back then when the Wiggler meta was still ongoing. However, I am happy to hear about other optimal builds like the Gold Standard/OG Standard are viable. I do agree that we’ve entered a more diverse meta and the changes have been for the better. Thanks for this video Bayseic!
I’m imagining a way we can take this even further: optimize for each individual cup. Quantify the meters for each speed category (ground, air, etc.) for each individual track; add them up for a cup’s total meters; then use the most common speed types as our speed variant.
I've always used Mario + standard kart online against many "more optimal builds." It's fun showing that optimal builds don't always matter. And I'm glad that Nintendo decided to make almost every kart optimal if used by someone knowledgeable on the courses, their kart, and character.
Great analysis, this was actually quite eye-opening. I will say though, as an inward-drift main, it's always a little disappointing that inward bikes are typically overlooked when it comes to meta analysis. The one I'm using right now is Yoshi/Yoshi Bike/Rollers/Clouds, but you could argue some variation in character would be optimal. The real problem for me is that quite a few of these new courses seem to heavily favor karts over inward bikes, which is making me want to make the switch for good.
thanks for the analysis and the site! having so many new options also opens up better per track optimization too. it’s great stats other than mt/sg can be emphasized now
as someone who has been playing Luigi with the teddybear forever just because I love the character and the kart I can tell you how much I am laughing at this update XD really nice to see people playing with new builds!
I've been subbed for over a year and this is the first video I've seen pop up in 10 months. I hate the algorithm. You've got that calm and logical voice which makes it easy to hear and understand the more advanced stuff. Like Karl Jobst or Nelson from Chess Vibes. 🙏🙏
If I had a nickel for every time I heard “I’ve even got notifications on and didn’t know you were still making videos” I’d have a shitload of nickels lol. I don’t know why TH-cam hates my channel so much
Mini-turbo and Handling are the stats I often spec into. I like being zippy and drifting on a dime around even the tightest of corners. These builds also come with a lot of traction which helps for shortcuts and some of the silly tracks.
Interestingly in the high level Japanese lobbies (specifically Kusaan is someone that I watch regularly) that I have seen in the past weeks, Ink Striker + Yoshi Weight is even more prevalent than Teddy Buggy with Yoshi/Rosalina Weight. Love your content, keep up the good work!
So glad they buffed underused stuff instead of just nerfing the meta combos. Using your website I discovered that my preferred build of King Boo, 300 SL Roadster, Cloud Glider and Slim/Roller for speed and mt respectively is now on the Pareto frontier, which is great!
I've seen alot of people complain about the new meta since I play in competitive but tbh, I'm loving the new meta. I've gone from a 1:43.664 to a 1:42.449 on Dragon Driftway because of the Birdo Revolution and it feels amazing!
I am using Rosalina on the red bike with red tires with the animal crossing glider. What can I say I am a bike girl. I know it’s not the meta but that’s what I have the most fun on. I like how different everything is now and I am seeing more and more people like this meta way better.
I'm still using what I've always used, Rosalina (my all time favorite character), the Yoshi Bike, because it mechanical Yoshi lol. Both got a buff so I'm good. Yes its not the most optimal drift type but its what I like and I can still hold my own.
A big apsect about the new metq I see nobody talk about is how some Inward Drifting bikes share stats with the Teddy Buggy, namely the Comet and the Yoshi Bike. This means the new meta allows optimality while also allowing a completely different drifting style.
So glad and happy with this patch. I used to use the Flame Rider with the plane parts and crimson wheels or black tires with Rosalina alot. To me it had helped during the waluigi wiggler days in numerous situations though a uphill battle sometimes. I found it compete somewhat. Also item rng was a factor. But it feels good to play a different combo with a similar taste. This is good patch and hope that wheels get love to at some point. They do make or break a vehicle in my opinion due to it's characteristics and turbo.
Bruh I needed the data science video before the 18😂 I have a office tournment today and I wanted to have a couple of intel about suboptimal but viable builds... damn it Can't wait to see this video though
Update: I completely misreaded the situation. Most of the people where complete beginners and I demolished almost everyone istantly. Then I felt bad and left my spot to people thst were not tryharding but actually there to enjoy the social event.😭
After Ground speed and mini turbo the next best stat for online is definitely weight, and is a big reason why inward drifting bikes are successful at the highest level, so with that being said I would not be surprised if the waluigi class remains meta, just with teddy or inkstriker this time around
Great video man! was waiting on this :P althought I saw the results of people labbing on twitter and such, this was a fun watch :D Funny enough I've actually been consistently front running with my favorite character Dry Bones | Flame Rider | Retro Off-Road | Cloud Glider, This isn't my usual build but I've been having a lot of fun with it and its been proving itself very effective online 🤩. I've actually always been a Biddybuggy | Azure Rollers | Cloud Glider type of guy (with Dry Bones) as the reason I originally chose it was becuz it was the Kart that resembled the Dry Bomber from Mario Kart DS the most and drove the best imo while prioritizing mini-turbo over speed. (Landship is obviously more similar) but again, Biddybuggy drove more satisfyingly for me :D Great content, can't wait for your future vids 💜
The funny thing is, I used to occasionally use Teddy Buggy and the Rollers with Bowser before the meta got changed so I am happy I'll be able to use it in the game now with it being more viable! 😄
TLDW: Teddy Buggy/Cat Cruiser, rollers, cloud glider, and wario, waluigi, rosalina, luigi, or birdo classes OR, Teddy Buggy/Cat Cruiser, buttons, cloud glider, waluigi, luigi, or birdo classes. Alternatives to Teddy Buggy/Cat Cruiser: for anti-grav, luigi class and inkstriker. For mini-turbo, birdo class and biddybuggy. (Both with cloud glider and rollers)
6:10 weight matters a lot. The reason baby buggy was only popular for a bit. They’re super strong if they get ahead but if have trouble getting to the point because the push mechanics in this game is insane. Slows you down a lot and flings you to the point your line is messed up or your off the map.
Great video man, the effort you put into researching, contrasting and showing us the data is incredible. From my experience since I've never been a tryhard in MK, I'll always use what I like the most because skill and decision making outweighs "meta combos" in Mario kart, I'm probably kinda wrong for this but I don't care lol
This is a great breakdown! One thing I haven’t seen explored too much in relation to the speed/MT balance is the role grip/traction plays; I enjoy swapping between very high and very low grip builds for fun, and it feels like it has a bearing on how quickly you’ll charge MT boosts. This feels relevant now that Comet/Yoshi Bike have also been buffed, because they have identical stats to Cat Cruiser/Teddy Buggy, so with their narrow angle at the start of a drift + quick charge, maybe snaking becomes viable in some settings (also allowing more speed to be traded off for MT)?
@@loxng6801 I mean, it isn’t meta, because the meta seems to favour ATVs over karts, and karts over bikes. Plus inside drift is generally seen as less optimal than outside drift in this game. I’m mostly just thinking that with the character and kart buffs, it could have its own niche if chaining MTs is substantially more effective with it.
I know it’s not optimal but for a long time I’ve been using the pipe frame with Mercedes wheels and cloud glider, simply because I like the way it looks/controls
What is your opinion on the lower tiers of builds and how they are in relation to the “meta” compared to before the update? Is the gap smaller? Obviously skill (and luck) is generally what’ll determine an online win anyway, but I’d like your opinion on how big the deficit is when using non-meta combos. Thanks for the great videos!
If anything it will lead to more course specific builds that's great news for the overall at least in time trials but we will still see an online meta settle on afew builds quickly
Great video as always,I haven’t kept up with these as much but had to watch this one to get some idea of how to pick in the meta. This video looked super polished too! Not sure how long it’ll take me to adjust away from the classic try hard build but we’ll see
I don't really like pointing out my own credit (kinda narcisistic), but hi, I'm S0NIC130, the guy who gave you the idea for the thinking face. Just kinda neat how I was able to influence a TH-cam video I've never done that before XP
My personal preference is what looks and feels good to play, instead of mathematically optimal. With that mindset I landed on Koopa Troopa, B Dasher, Standard, Paper. Good handling, only .5 bars below recommended mini turbo and hilariously high invicibility, which has saved me from blue shells a lot more than I thought it would 😂 I still think this dedication to finding optimal combos is amazing and I'd probably use one of them in a higher level match
I'm so, so happy they rebalanced everything. I always played as Luigi in Mario Kart, and my main combo in 8DX was Luigi+Biddy+Rollers+Cloud Glider. Once I got in the 15-18k VR territory, I found out that I couldn't keep up with other experienced players online anymore, and I switched to the old tryhard build (using DK+Biddy). Now, even if Luigi+Inkstriker is more optimal, Luigi+Biddy feels finally viable enough! I started using it again, and I must say that I'm placing much better than before. Also, at the moment there's a lot more diversity online, so even though they partially screwed the time trial scene, I'm happy they did this.
As someone that had just thought “oh instead of 12 Waluigi Wigglers it’s gonna be 12 Rosalina Teddy Buggies”, this was what I needed to hear. Glad to see the game diversify a bit.
I've been using Daisy, City Tripper, GLA tires, and Peach Glider lately, it's got just slightly less speed than the Rosalina meta build but with slightly better acceleration, ground handling, and traction, plus MUCH better invincibility. It's one tick below being pareto optimal, but it's still very good!
As somebody who used to not give a shit about the meta and used Biddybuggy with Rollers just because he likes the extra handling, this is kind of validating, ngl
Iggy has been my favorite since MK8 on Wii U and I mostly used the red mini tires, flame bike and cloud or bowser glider with Iggy, will definitely try the ink striker, cause it looks dope too and Splatoon is nice! 👌
Looking back on this, I must say the community has finally decided that the folllowing combo is the new meta. Yoshi, Teddybuggy, Rollers/Azure Rollers, Cloud/Paper Glider.
Dry Bones,Biddy Buggy, azure rollers, and cloud glider. I've pulled off so many first places with that combo so far and cheese n rice is it nasty when you get a breakaway.
It's nice to see that Waluigi might still part of the meta! I was very worried he'd be left forgotten just like other times! I want people to see why many people like him and playing as him is one way to see that. So it's reassuring to see he still might get some use in the new meta!
It's good having these many options now! Personally I'm using Yoshi with the Teddy Buggy because I prefer more MT and it has the same value as my previous build (Toad Biddybuggy) but with a lot more speed
I'm running Birdo/Silver Arrow/Off-Road/Golden Glider. Having a blast. Pre-patch I was using Villager(F)/Jet Bike/Slim/Golden. People give inside drift too much flak.
Hi! Wave 5 is out now! If anyone wants to know what the new character stats are: Kamek is in Luigi's group. Petey is in Metal Mario's group. Wiggler is in Waluigi's group. (funny how that ended up) The patchnotes seem to imply that some balancing fixes are in place, but I can't tell what has changed. Please be on the look out! 💜💜
Pre-patch, my build used to be Gold Mario/Pipe Frame/Roller/Gold Glider, but after the patch I switched to Rosalina/Blue Falcon/Roller/Cloud Glider; the handling feels slightly different, and it's definitely more focus towards ground speed, but I've been able to play pretty consistently nonetheless.
Overall this was a great update, but I personally feel like buffing the cruiser class was unnecessary. Link, Rosa, and King Boo were imo the most balanced of the high tiers before the patch and who I recommended for new players (now I recommend standard Mario lol). I also feel a bit bad for the time trialers who've put years into the game having their records outdated now. Overall I wonder where they will go with the balancing after this, part of me hopes they'll revert the invincibility stat since that was mostly applied to combat Waluigi Wiggler which is no longer an issue!
Baby Daisy + Mr. Scooty + Roller + Cloud Glider. This is my meta because of how easy it is to control on sharp turns, I can take on Neo Bowser City on 150cc without smart steering. The hitbox is also really small which makes it harder for green shells to bounce into you and when you do get hit you have great acceleration to jump right back to top speed before the risk of getting combo killed by other racers.
Haha, I’ve had to do my own optimization between self-expression and winning. I’ve noticed when I use combos that don’t appeal to me aesthetically I have less fun. I’ve also noticed when I lose every race, I have less fun. But the combos I like using the most tend not to be meta, so I always have to compromise between my desire to win and to look good while doing so. A few months ago I settled with Toad in the Biddybuggy with Rollers. Toad is my favorite character and I think the Biddybuggy suits him well visually. With the new meta I might swap to Teddy Buggy, but keep everything else the same.
The only complaint I have now is that the Rollers are still superior and there is no real alternative to them. Would be great if they also buff tires more to get some other tires showing up online
I definitely have been liking this update though one thing I'd note is that the Metal character group is essentially invalidated by Link/Rosalina/Boo with these changes. There's just no reason to pick them over Link/Rosalina/Boo now because you're end up with almost all the same stats except for worse Mini-Turbo, traction, invincibility, but higher weight. Of course they were non-optimal before this and I did okay with them but since it's even less optimal now it kind of hurts in that respect. On the plus-side, I do like the characters who got a nice boost from these changes so I can just switch.
This update makes the Meta have more diversity But I personally use drybones, city tripper, azule rollers, and cloud glider. Sacrifices speed but has great mini turbo, acceleration, and ground + hover speed with good drift
When I started playing, I kind of prioritised accelaration and if I liked the combo and that is how I got to shy guy/blue falcon/triforce wheels/standard glider. It works perfectly fine for me and I don't intend to change it, but sometimes I do however feel the lack in speed.
I've been enjoying Birdo with Inkstriker/Rollers/Paper Glider. It's got just a little less MT than I would prefer, but it compensates with a little bit more speed. I love that Birdo is viable, as she was my main back in MKWii and I've been complaining that she wasn't in the game since day 1 on the Wii U.

That is an optimal build with 11 speed and 15 MT.
Lucky for you, they buffed Iggy/Luigi and King Boo. Every build who uses Rosalina also can use King Boo.
Quick little cheat sheet to find optimal builds in the new meta:
If your character's GS and MT add up to 10, your body's add up to 8, and your tires' add up to 6, it's probably viable with cloud glider (though a fair few dip below 14 MT).
This is the most thorough analysis of the rebalance I’ve seen-easy to understand and straight to the point. Love the content Bayesic!
i think the weight stat should be considered more , i find that online having a bit more weight can make it easier to push ppl out of the way and take the lines you want. after the patch they’re all a bit slower but i find with lighter characters i slow down by taking different lines to avoid ppl.
it’ll be interesting to see now that the optimal build isn’t on a heavyweight
thats why i use the gold glider in my build, it has 'extra' points vs some other gliders and the extra .25 is in the weight section (without taking a .25 point from handling etc) makes it my choice now that im using a medium mii instead of a large one or DK in my new build - but yeah weight is super important online where races are tight cuz you dont wanna be stuck avoiding contact vs ignoring it
oh cool i didn’t know that , does it have similar stats to the cloud gliders or like the super glider ?
@@MFjackson yeah from what i remember atleast before the patch i sued a build of dk/scooty/cloud glider most of the time though after the nerfs for speed i figurd id still wana make up for the weight lost by going from DK/Large Mii to medium Mii on standard kart so added that gold glider for the weight
its interesting, you can add up the total amount of skill pionts and not all players have the same depending on the build too, for example i made one build that had 16 and 1/4 total points but my personal meta which isnt a real meta but pretty optimizd with the new patch but my new one has 18.25 overall skill points (would be 18 if i dindnt go from cloud glider to gold one cuz that extra weight stat doesnt come at the cost of anything else luckily...
Waluigi is my favorite Mario character and I want to keep using him, so Waluigi Teddy Buggy/Roller/Paper will be great! Rosalina & Link are cool too, and I've had fun with Medium Mii Inkstriker today.
Thank you.
@Daniel ChenHello!
@@Bayesic Yeah it looks like most people haven't even considered Time Trials and think this patch is a complete upgrade
@@MeesterTweester I'm not completely sure. If anything, it might incentive people to try to improve those timers.
Where you will possibly see the "nonlinear" side of things is in new strats that the new combos of carts unlock or make useless (like if we were depending upon hitting a certain ribbon of road for a jump boost and that gets moved in time due to a different cart being boost+speed optimal, etc)
That's the great part and good news for y'all!
Thanks a lot Bayesic! This has been really helpful.
What's interesting about the invincibility stat not really influencing the waluigi wiggler meta, is that I do not think many knew about it. Heck, this video is the first I've heard of it
Agreed. I think Nintendo should surface these stats
I never realized there was so much to this game, great explanation of the games systems and how characters / karts work together!
Yoooo thanks for the comment! And keep on keepin on with the Zelda guides man they’re really well put together!
It is very satisfying that the video fades out just as Mario crosses the finish line.
Good editing!
The real problem for me is that quite a few of these new courses seem to heavily favor karts over inward bikes, which is making me want to make the switch for good.
new to your channel, but as a fellow data scientist this is brilliant fun.
Fellow number crunchers unite!
thanks for the analysis and the site! having so many new options also opens up better per track optimization too. it’s great stats other than mt/sg can be emphasized now
as someone who has been playing Luigi with the teddybear forever just because I love the character and the kart I can tell you how much I am laughing at this update XD really nice to see people playing with new builds!
Standard Mario build is now ridiculously explosive, to the point that it’s extremely difficult to control
I've been subbed for over a year and this is the first video I've seen pop up in 10 months. I hate the algorithm. You've got that calm and logical voice which makes it easy to hear and understand the more advanced stuff. Like Karl Jobst or Nelson from Chess Vibes.
🙏🙏
If I had a nickel for every time I heard “I’ve even got notifications on and didn’t know you were still making videos”
I’d have a shitload of nickels lol. I don’t know why TH-cam hates my channel so much
Really liking Luigi Inkstrider looking to find a build that I like with king boo as boos have been one of my favorite Mario enemies for a long time.
Nice analysis, Bayesic. Hope we didn't pester you too much. And thanks heaps for updating the website!
Lol nah I had a ton of fun working on this
Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Appreciate your expertise!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for making this video! I’m still using Yoshi/Wiggler/Leaf/Flower Glider, but now I’m inspired to try Yoshi/Cat Cruiser/Leaf/Flower Glider.
This update has been amazing. My favorite build has to be Yellow Shy Guy, Inkstriker, Rollers, and Paper glider.
I do love me some shy guy haha
Used the same build with Toad (same stats as Shy Guy)
I love the Peach in the Cat Cruiser on Cushion Tires with the Cloud Glider.
Dude changed a whole game with two videos...twice...the hero we need
I put a TON of effort into this video, and comments like this really mean a lot to me. Thank you!
Bruh I needed the data science video before the 18😂
I have a office tournment today and I wanted to have a couple of intel about suboptimal but viable builds... damn it
Can't wait to see this video though
Update: I completely misreaded the situation. Most of the people where complete beginners and I demolished almost everyone istantly. Then I felt bad and left my spot to people thst were not tryharding but actually there to enjoy the social event.😭
what a plot twist
After Ground speed and mini turbo the next best stat for online is definitely weight, and is a big reason why inward drifting bikes are successful at the highest level, so with that being said I would not be surprised if the waluigi class remains meta, just with teddy or inkstriker this time around
this is the video i´ve been waiting for, thanks!
this change re-makes history. Hope we get a summoning salt episode on this in a few years
Mario Standard sweep
Great video man! was waiting on this :P althought I saw the results of people labbing on twitter and such, this was a fun watch :D
Funny enough I've actually been consistently front running with my favorite character Dry Bones | Flame Rider | Retro Off-Road | Cloud Glider, This isn't my usual build but I've been having a lot of fun with it and its been proving itself very effective online 🤩.
(Landship is obviously more similar) but again, Biddybuggy drove more satisfyingly for me :D
Great content, can't wait for your future vids 💜
I really like to use the yoshi, airship kart, rollers, and animal crossing glider; it seems to be the perfect combination for me
The funny thing is, I used to occasionally use Teddy Buggy and the Rollers with Bowser before the meta got changed so I am happy I'll be able to use it in the game now with it being more viable! 😄
TLDW:
Teddy Buggy/Cat Cruiser, rollers, cloud glider, and wario, waluigi, rosalina, luigi, or birdo classes
OR, Teddy Buggy/Cat Cruiser, buttons, cloud glider, waluigi, luigi, or birdo classes.
Been waiting for this! Thanks!
So yoshi bike is meta now ?
Yoshi, streetle, cushion wheels, and cloud glider is my jam no matter what.
Liked the editing in this one
Thanks, I actually put a lot of time into thinking specifically about how to use the editing to make the content more interesting
Just kinda neat how I was able to influence a TH-cam video
I've never done that before XP
Loved the first video, loved the second video! Can't wait to crush people with my new Birdo build! I was tired of using DK and Mr Scooty anyway
I know I said it before but I’ll say it again: God bless you for dropping the shiny
I used Rosalina + all gold parts before, and will continue to do so now. It just feels cool to drive something made completely from gold
I'm just happy to be able to casually use the wiggler atv without inadvertently feeling like I'm trying to prove something of myself.
If anyone wants to know what the new character stats are:
Kamek is in Luigi's group.
Petey is in Metal Mario's group.
Wiggler is in Waluigi's group. (funny how that ended up)
The patchnotes seem to imply that some balancing fixes are in place, but I can't tell what has changed.
Or you could just learn to properly take the turns with brake drifting (which isnt even needed) with the meta setups
Yoshi
Streetle
Leaf tires
Mktv
Gives me a lot of good races and wins lately
before this update i used yoshi, yoshi bike, rollers, and cloud glider, so its epic that its now an optimal build
The only complaint I have now is that the Rollers are still superior and there is no real alternative to them. Would be great if they also buff tires more to get some other tires showing up online
Leaf Tires, Slims, Standards (except Gold Standard), Button tires and Sponge are like the only tires that I think can compete with Rollers
GLA’s with Yoshi Teddy are a good fit too
Solid vid brother
I definitely have been liking this update though one thing I'd note is that the Metal character group is essentially invalidated by Link/Rosalina/Boo with these changes. There's just no reason to pick them over Link/Rosalina/Boo now because you're end up with almost all the same stats except for worse Mini-Turbo, traction, invincibility, but higher weight. Of course they were non-optimal before this and I did okay with them but since it's even less optimal now it kind of hurts in that respect. On the plus-side, I do like the characters who got a nice boost from these changes so I can just switch.
This update makes the Meta have more diversity
But I personally use drybones, city tripper, azule rollers, and cloud glider.
My boy Iggy getting buffs is just what I like to see
Awesome video
I've been enjoying Birdo with Inkstriker/Rollers/Paper Glider. It's got just a little less MT than I would prefer, but it compensates with a little bit more speed. I love that Birdo is viable, as she was my main back in MKWii and I've been complaining that she wasn't in the game since day 1 on the Wii U.
For the Yoshi class, I think Teddy roller cloud with gla tires is the best to get more speed.
