Will this Porsche 912 engine run after sitting for 43 years (Part 7)

  • The moment of truth. Does this old thing run or not? In my last video I shared that I'm getting some help with the engine as I'm out of time to work on this project. In this video I share whether or not the engine runs after sitting for 43 years. These four cylinder air cooled motors are pretty simple..right? Do they last? Find out how this one did after sitting longer than I've been alive. I've been into these air-cooled Porsches for four years now. This is the first four cylinder I've owned.
If you haven't seen the first six parts to this build series, make sure you go back and start from the beginning so you can see the process this car and I have been through.
Porsche restoration is a breeze..isn't it?

Looking at the glass half full here..even if the engine ran, who knows how long it would have held up. One of the pistons had a ring that seized up. I’m not an engine builder, but I know the backs of the pistons didn’t look good. Going to really appreciate this car when it’s drivable. Thanks for watching

All good. I think it's better rebuilt anyhow. Peace of mind. My 914's being rebuilt a.t.m. Bought the car knowing I really wanted to minimize getting stranded some place with no reception.
I figured, most of my family's funds go toward bills and saving for a rainy day (thank God from the looks of where the economy is going now), and we try to tithe as well - not to the church administration, but for more direct ministry and needs (the way I understand it was really done in the Bible). So, I thank God He allowed me to get a car I can really enjoy driving through old age. A man only needs so many cars in his lifetime; if you've got the extra funds, why not pay the little extra so it doesn't break down on me and the fundamentals works like they should.
All part of the fun of the journey.

Fully appreciate that a Porsche engine build (even a 4 cylinder one) isn't the sort of cost that any working-class guys bank account will embrace, but I still see a massive positive in the car and that is its rare unmolested and rust-free stance. Engines can be rebuilt and rebuilt again, but once a car gets butchered or succumbs to rot then it's never quite the same even if it's wounds can be hidden under paint and filler. Maybe a slightly tickled cam and small capacity increase now that the engines coming apart?👍

So true and is exactly why I had to buy this car when I saw it. So many of these cars got rotted out. The originality or this one is really special. Thanks for the comment I’m going to post a video tomorrow about the engine 👍

So Sorry Michael, I have a 1973 project barnfind and I working on getting it running as well, first I needed a fuel pump then replace all the lines. pump works but now I need a starter. once I get the starter back from rebuild I will try to get it started. My 911t had been sitting for 20 years also ran when it was parked just burning a lot of oil. time will tell

So I am still on the sunny side of the street here, of course it's also not my car nor my money...but...was your attraction to this car steeped in the cost or was it the passion for it to be yours and on the road again one day? There are options here such as another engine, some of your work and some of your friends work, the potential sale of something else to help out, etc. As I started out with, I am still walking with you on the sunny side of the street here. Breath, take your time, do your best to enjoy. Peace to you and yours brother, Scott
