    I just started watching you channel two days ago because at the age of 50, I decided it was time to do something I always wanted to do and this is learn Japanese.
    While finishing my masters of science degree a couple of years ago, I would watch an hour or two of TV after my study time. I watched pretty much every movie there was on Netflix and HULU, and I noticed they had a huge amount of Anime but only some of it was English dubbed. I had seen my first Manga/Anime back in the mid 1980's called Macross. My cousin got it at a Star Trek convention in Los Angeles. It was in Japanese with the alien language in Japanese subtitles but no English. We had good imaginations so we made up our own narrative to the action. Anyhow I watched a lot of cool Anime that was English dubbed but non of the theme or end of episode music was, but It sounded pretty good. I had been doing some music searched on TH-cam and got a link to the band Ningen Isu from TH-cam while searching for music to listen to while studying.
    Needless to say I now want to learn Japanese more than ever because of these past few years. I've looked at a few different TH-cam sites, and the thing I find refreshing is that yours is more conversational based where as most of the ones I saw were more robotic in their teaching method. I will surely be using your videos to enhance my learning.

    まず第一に、動画内容と説明が率直でばっちりだ。細かく説明しただけでなく、視聴者にもわかりやすく説明しました。この文法のポイントがわかっているので、N2のn能力試験を受ける準備をしています。そう言えばさ、『ずにはいられない』っていう文法はN3文法内ではなくてN2文法ポイントです。新完全ンマスターや他の日本の文法サイトなどで見つけることができます。強くそう感じるとか思いが強いられる文法を示す上に身体的に我慢できない場合や、ものごとの様子や事情を見て、話し手の心の中で「〜したい」とう気持ちが起こり、意志の力で抑えられない時に使う。『どうしても〜しないでいることはできない。/ どうしても〜してしまう』っていうの意味の表す表現。『~てしかたがない/~てしょうがない/~てならない/~ないわけにはいかない/~ざるを得ない』っていうと同じカテゴリにある。何から何まで教えていただき大変申し訳ございません、先生、お疲れ様でした。

    Good Lord. I've been speaking Japanese for 30 years, and I can't remember hearing the sezu ni wa irarenai phrase being used in regular speech. It sounds like a phrase you would use in writing but not in normal colloquial speech. IMO, the phrase "doushitemo -chau" is more common. Or, using your example, nuigurumi o miru to, kaitaku naru also feels more natural. If someone did use this phrase "sezu ni wa irarenai" in a sentence and I hadn't heard it before, I would still be able to figure out the meaning because of the context in which it was said.

    • @danwiseman889
      @danwiseman889 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Real life vs studying for a test.

    • @suginami0
      @suginami0 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danwiseman889 What makes this more strange to me is that I have a Bachelors degree in Japanese, and worked at a Japanese company in Tokyo for five years in the late 80s to early 90s. Somehow I not only never learned that grammatical phrase at university nor in my time living in Japan. I don't know if the JPLT test existed back then. It may have, but I never heard of it. However, if 'sezu ni wa irarenai' is part of the JPLT level 3 test, and you want to pass it, then this video is very useful for studying for the test. I've been back in the U.S. since the middle 90's, and thankfully I've been able to keep up my Japanese speaking ability due to my Japanese wife and bilingual children. I still use Japanese regularly and even subscribe to TV Japan on cable. We love watching Japanese TV. We're addicted to the NHK series "Yell".

    • @petermercadante630
      @petermercadante630 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@suginami0 This is very peculiar. What does your wife say? My Japanese friends say that it is used so it is not clear how you never came across it. It obviously needs a certain level of sophistication to say the equivalent of something like "I can't help but be concerned" etc but given your level and long term exposure to the language I have no doubt you would be at that level. For now it remains a mystery.

    • @suginami0
      @suginami0 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @peter mercadante my wife agreed with me. “anmari tsukawanai”. I actually consulted with her before I wrote my first comment. I’m not saying you shouldn’t learn it or that it can’t be used. I just saying there are other figures of speech that are more colloquial.

    • @kellycharles4765
      @kellycharles4765 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The JLPT from what I’ve heard definitely has stuff that’s not always so useful, but yet for those wanting to take the test, I imagine this grammar point is still on it. That being said near the end of the video at 22:43, she at least tells us that words like つい/どうしても、ちゃう can “usually (def.: under normal conditions; generally)” replace、ずにはいられない (granted, exceptions not included). Or closer to how she actually said it, “ずにはいられない can usually be rephrased as....”
      So, I don’t think she’s honestly trying to tell us it’s more common. Yes, I think she probably should have been a bit clearer on this point, and yes I think it might have been a bit better to mention this caveat earlier in the video, and included when to actually (if ever) use it, but regardless this has been an informative experience for me.

    みさ先生が冗談すると、ニヤニヤせずにはいられないわ~ ちなみに、本日の動画はいつも通り素敵だ。教え方やビシュアルな説明などがめっちゃくちゃ役に立つ。とりあえずさ、ずっと驚いた事はみさあもの「あも」ってゆうのがなんすか。名前のかな。いつもありがとう~
