How to ask " What's your name ? " politely in Japanese.

- Many textbooks says " Onamae wa nan desuka " as " What's your name ? ".
It's grammatically correct, but actually it's a bit rude.
I will explain why it is bad and introduce other expressions.

I always think that "o namae ha nan desuka " was rare xDD because nan is " what" and for asking a name the question is "Which". But nobody tell "o namae ha doreno desuka" as a type of answer. Why?
so "o-namae wa?" can be seen as casual but still not rough/rude yes?
Can you also do a extremely rude version, for a comic purpose?
I"m not sure what comic purpose you have. I don't recommend using rude greeting for others. But we have 名をなのれ (bossy,rude,and old ).Don't use it.

They all are "That's right."
The main word is "sou".
While talking with elders,"sou desune" is better.
Otherwise "soudane, soudayone"sounds good.
Just "souda"sounds too strong and rough.

That's one of very polite expressions. You can use it in business or polite situation.
However. I'd say お名前を お伺いしても よろしいでしょうか？
If you like to use this expression. you should put を after お名前。
and よろしいでしょうかis the politest , but 伺ってもis little bit less polite, so ↑↑↑ お伺いしても should be replaced here.
One more thing ,😅 This is the expression that workers use to their customers,so it's toooooo polite in daily situation. In daily conversation, Please use phrases that I introduced in this video.
