I’m at 9 weeks out of fibula surgery, and my tibia was pushed out 2cm~~.Dr. said I had more breaks than originally observed. But at the 6week mark he said I still need to work on my swelling. I’m going to pick up some 15-20 mmhg supports and see if that helps.
Back in late April 2012. 4 days after the fiberglass cast taken off my leg was swollen. I did broke my left ankle in a bad car accident. I even had surgery the following afternoon. I wore splint cast for 2 weeks. The fiberglass cast for 4 weeks. I wore the boot a little bit longer. I did weaned the boot off during the month of July. I did used wheelchair a little bit over 2 months of not walking. I did used a walker to hopped for a couple feet around the bedroom and even getting out of my parents house. When I started to walk again it was just baby steps with the walker. During the month of June that I was weaning off the walker. I was walking by holding on the trim near the bedroom and holding on the kitchen counter. I did used the walker when I was outside enjoying the weather. I did missed out on the early summer weather a day after that I was released from the hospital. It was March 10th and it was on a Saturday that I missed out of. It took me almost 5 months to recovered from my car accident. I think that I saw little bit of a bruise on the ankle. My left ankle and foot was swollen as I remembered shortly after the fiberglass cast was off. I had so many X-rays on that ankle. It was so cool to see the X-ray of my left foot. To me it looked liked a big hand.
All questions for your surgeon who can see you in person and answer more questions than I can over the internet. Especially since warmth after surgery can be both normal or very serious things to rule in or rule out like infection.
I had a fibula fracture and dislocated my ankle. Got a plate and screws. 6 weeks got my cast off and given a boot my ankle is still quite swollen and the range of rotation is terrible. When should I expect the swelling to stop and increased flexibility
Just depends on how much ligament and/or internal cartilage damage you may have or may not have. But 6-8 weeks is really just the beginning of the fracture healing. The scar tissue and swelling can continue to be troublesome for your concerns as early as 12 weeks and as late as 6 months. I would chat with your surgeon about this to see what kind of PT, continued rest, or other specific treatment modalities are suggested.
