    I was wondering why you used 3 pipes rather than just merging 2 before sending it to the powerplants, and joining the 3rd between 5 and 6. I think I like the look of the 3 pipes more. Takes up more room, but looks more industrial and personally a little more tidy. Have been loving the tutorials. This has very quickly become one of my favourite games to just chill in.

      Also, why not feed the middle pipe into the middle (between plant 3 and 4?)

    I plan on following all three videos to get me started. Great ideas and clean lines, plus the details of the underclocking is the best. I did download #3 to get a boots on the ground feel of everything. I am not going to use it to play in, but thought it would be interesting to do a walkaround. But I kind of got freaked out with the save game when I was walking around the side where the Hub is and found someone sitting in the lotus position with a cup in the middle of the walkway. Ha Ha unreasonable fear is the worst don't you think?

    I wonder about bug with water you mentioned…
    I have built 120 Coal generators powerplant last week. Generators above water extractors, there was need of one pump MK1 on the way. But as I was starting it and checking for mistakes, I realized some didn't need pumps to be powered and still pishing all water into generators above extractors.
    I just hooked up everything as it should be but, yeah… pipes are buggy.

    I just noticed in my own factory the other day that you can now stack splitters and mergers two high and still connect them with lifts -- rather than having to leave a gap in between them and the top one floating. Give it a try!

  • @LastKnight0727
    @LastKnight0727 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've been wondering, why stockpile the other earlier resources and sink them rather than use them for the more complicated items (i.e. Screws and plates for reinforced plates)? Why build whole new buses for iron and copper when you can simply diverge using smart splitters (once unlocked) to feed the excess to the assembler area? Then once those are full you can sink those more complicated items for bigger gains in the sink.

    • @TotalXclipse
      @TotalXclipse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You must certainly can do that, but the factory wouldn't run efficiently if the player keeps removing resources for their own building 🙂 so you'd have to add further overflow sections on the more advanced lines as well

      That’s my problem with the game. Playing a standard game you end up having to redo everything because half the building design options are locked until late mid game. Not sure why the devs think that’s a good design choice. At least just have cosmetic items locked not wall conveyor belts, lights foundations etc

    • @Nyzzio
      @Nyzzio ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrSladej they do this for a gameplay progression. It would simply be a creative game if everything were unlocked at the start and new players would be completely and utterly overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things to do and build if it were done that way. Plus this teaches you how early game setups are never meant to be permanent and are only meant to get you the materials then you can build things that will be permanent.

    This helped me with what I've seen as my least favorite part of the game so far. I started a few new worlds trying to get a feel for things before I actually built a space elevator. Watching this made me go to the rocky desert, and everything kinda clicked here. I still felt like I was fighting to keep power on while exploring and getting the hang of things. But now that I've gotten to the point of having tractors and coal, my imagination is pretty much the limit. I feel like I can kinda take off now, and I'm excited to see what problems I can throw all this logistical power at! I enjoyed watching this little series as a way of helping me map in my head what the outline of setting up a clean factory in Satisfactory looks like. Now that I have transport and coal,! The map is big in all the right places, with enough granular pockets to keep it interesting and fun to build in. I think that the early game feels at odds with the rest of the game's approach to the genre, but I'll find a way to mod it to my liking on the second time around lol

    Hold on, if the caterium smelters are set to produce 10 each, then they go into a merger for 20 which then just goes into a splitter to make them 10 into each constructor.... what's the point of the second merger? Wouldn't it be easier and use fewer resources to just send the smelters directly into the constructors? I guess it just lines up better with the merger/splitter addition, but that's still kinda weird.

    What's the point of merging and splitting directly after? Wouldn't it be the same to just run the 2 conveyor to the 2 different constructors?

    • @JustanotherPlaya
      @JustanotherPlaya ปีที่แล้ว

      @Spokloo, if I'm understanding it correctly, it's all a matter of timing. Splitters alone will get the job done, but it takes a lot longer to max out your machines. using a merger in the middle balances the load (hence the name load balancing) and gives each machine it's exact requirements immediately. A perfect example is the split in the iron rod machines in part 2 which supply the rods for the rotors. Also, those rods are split backwards, the assembler doesn't need 25 rods, the screws do, so put the loop on the screw side for maximum efficiency. Sorry @TotalXclipse, for the failure to call this to your attention first, I just found it by accident after building this for the 3rd time, lol. I couldn't figure out why my rotors weren't showing up in the storage, so I checked each and every machine for mistakes, found out I had set the rod machines to build screws by accident! When I reset them, I realized that the 25 rods were going to the assembler, not the screw constructors. Ugh, maximum embarrassment!

    • @spokloo
      @spokloo ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustanotherPlaya I understand what your saying, but for example at 4:49, couldn't the 2 constructors on the left be connected directly to the 2 smelters on the left? I don't see a reason why not, it doesn't balance anything going through a splitter then through a merger directly after. The way I see it, it's 2 inputs and 2 outputs so I don't understand why there is a need for the merger and the splitter in that particular case. What you were describing is more comparable to the right side right? There is 2 inputs and 3 outputs, and in that case yes I understand the need for a load balancer it makes perfect sense. Maybe it's only for esthetics?

      you need to have two miners and a mk2 belt all the way there, thats what i did and it works. Once you have that get power to the miners then have them top off the coal generators so they all have 100 coal in them

      I'm not 100% on this, but for speed you want mk2 belts to each generator. The concept is to get it there "faster" preventing it from running out of coal. I have his coal plant setup and it matches this (but it came from another video of his)

    This is a great series to teach a spaghetti man how to build efficient factories. However, in your steel starter build with 4 foundries and 4 constructors I do not quite see why you need the extra mergers in front of the steel pipe constructors. The constructors would receive 30/m from the splitter also on one direct belt, so couldn't you just leave them out?

    Hi TotalXclipse. Just watched Part 1, 2 and 3 and would like to suggest a Part 4. I ask because it is a "starters series" and I am a starter. Yet you would change machinery to 60% efficiency or 90% or any random number without explaining why. Is that something I should always do? What if I am using all Tier 3 conveyors? You had all the splitters and mergers and everything pretty much attached to each other, I like leaving a whole floor tile between them. Does that effect the percentages? Then in Part 3 you used the water pipes. You mentioned people say you shouldn't do it this way. Then proceeded to do it that way with no explanation. I apologize if you are taking this the wrong way. I merely am mentioning this as a "starters" series. A person with 1000 hours in game may not need the explanations, but a starting player would. Part 4... "The Why" part. Why the percentages? Why is everything cramped together? Why are the Pipes set in that way? For that matter do you still have the other power burners going on top of the Coal Power Plants, spare power source? These and many more questions could be answered in... Part 4. Or Not 🙂 - Great Videos I will watch your whole playlist regardless.

    • @brandoncheyn1540
      @brandoncheyn1540 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Sorry I'm late to the party but let me see if I can give you some answers if you or anyone else are still wondering.
      1. The purpose of underclocking with those percentages is when a production line does not need the full potential of a machine, whether it is being limited by the input amount or the next step does not need the max. while you technically do not have to underclock it does reduce the power consumption of the machine and keeps its power draw steady instead of turning on and off because it is producing faster than the throughputs can handle. It basically makes it so your lines produce the *exact* quantities of components with steady/minimum power consumption (Spiking can cause your grid to shut down if you push the limit).
      2. Belt speed only matters with throughput. As long as the items per minute is equal to or less than the belt speed you are good, a faster than necessary belt only makes the first item arrive sooner and does not improve production speed.
      3. I also tend to space my stuff out more because I like the look of it and find it easier to organize and move around in. Building compact like this boils down to saving space and build style. How much belt you use doesn't effect percentages or the end result as long as none of the belts are oversaturated with items.
      4. The pipes thing is just kinda weird, each pipe can transport 300 m3 of water and each pump extracts 120 m3, and each generator needs 45 m3. I like to max out my pipes so ill have 2 main pipes each with 2 extractors (making it 240m3) then splitting a 5th extractor between the two pipes to hit a full 300m3, to do this you have to use valves to make sure the 5th sends water 2 ways and doesn't get backfilled.
      5. As for the power you dont always have enough being produced with just coal to do a complete flip in an instant and have to wean yourself off biomass while you expand your powerplant
      TIP. also recommend setting up one biogen near your pumps with some fuel stored next to it so in the event your power goes out you can use it to just power the pumps to reprime your coal generators to take over again.

    Halfway through this series I started streamlining the process, and certainly when I ended up getting the alt recipe for screws. I noticed that you forgot a line to storage for the quickwire. I added that myself and adjusted the rate going to the assembler. As for the last bit with the steel items, I think I'm going to set up a truck depot and have it shipped from another area.

      All the way? Do you know how large a factory that will be? 😅 I think the closest / most exhaustive layouts you will get is following my layout guides, there are videos for each one and written guide to them on satisfactorytips.com - I'll also be uploading more as I create more layout guides

    Clipping doesn't work in the base game right? This is all mods that you're using for clipping and other things like flying right?

    • @TotalXclipse
      @TotalXclipse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Clipping is vanilla part of update 5. The flying and creative mode I use for the guides as it saves me countless hours per video. If you want to know which mod it's Pak utility. But recommend playing vanilla, at least for the first time through

    great video but towards the end you seemed to be just placing thigs without explaining why. Perhaps you've covered all this in previous videos, but as a noob who was fascinated with the splitters, mergers etc i didn't get much info on why they were arranged as such.

    I do really appreciate the effort on your videos but that water piping is just looks.. odd. You could achieve the exact same with 1 less pipe. I know that this "only" saves you 1 water pump but it would be easier to build and looking quite a bit nicer too as it saves that middle knobble kind of thing.
    Other than that nice video as usual.

    • @TotalXclipse
      @TotalXclipse  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's fair. Just a different way of doing it. I normally build the powerplants closer to the water so don't worry about the piping too much
