Speaking of lights, I got a box of the LED Monster strip lights from Wal Mart this week. They didn't have any last week except just the all white lights. There were five boxes left after I purchased two. Just in case you need more. :)

Top and bottom flashing lights annoy me most - the integrated flashing LED's flash at about 2Hz when the movie ones are at about 0.5Hz. I know the colour scheme is accurate to the studio model but to my mind it's not what I see on screen in the beauty fly-by - it looks more metal with a hint of teal? Will probably do my own colour scheme but would still like your masks - do you have a UK distributor or do I have to order from Starship Modeler again? ATB

Daniel, I get my rolls of vinyl from a local sign making supply shop. it's what is used by auto/cycle custom painters. it is masking vinyl and has a lower adhesiveness than sign vinyl. I misspoke on the CA what I did was take the screen, brush on very thin CA and then spray it with the zip kicker. yes, I will be offering precut masks just made to fit this kit

Oh, it's red. There's a whole cottage industry dedicated to what color the lights on this ship should be. I'm just using the lighting kit that round 2 sells
They're designed to be used only once because the vinyl will stretch out of shape when you pull it up. How many do you need? Maybe I can give you volume pricing
Vinyl on vinyl crime-- to be avoided! LEDs too blue? Nothing says you can't swap the blue-white for warm-- all LEDs, from those little guys, SMDs to 10mm -- all draw 20 milliAmps. (Only the bigger 1 or 3 Watt ones, the ones on an aluminum heat dissipator base, draw more. They usually require a specialized power supply too.) If there's a hot spot that offends-- try a grey magic marker to knock down the very tip of the LED body. The grey still lets some light through-- it's kinda like a neutral density filter OR you could use some ND gel and a paper punch! Love the untouched look-- I know you're going in with a wild brush o' washes-- but right now it looks right off the ship yard quays! Nice "roving eye" at the end there. Hey, whatever happened to the 2001 pod?
the mission statement for this first build was to make do with everything out of the box. no reason to go swapping out leds from the factory set when a little paint would fix the problem. the only thing close to scratch building I did on this one was to add the screens to the impulse engines. good tip on the hot spot issue. I'm going to have to try that space pod should be on the slow boat from China right now in stores next month

I am looking forward to seeing and/or getting one. I started making one from scratch several years ago and bogged down with the ole time n money thing. I had just made a vac former that would make domes and needed a test subject. I still might get back to it-- I've learned a lot more in the meantime. It was based on an 8" sphere. Bit large than this upcoming one.

All of my masks are still in production. When you tell a retailer what you want, they order them from me. What are you looking for?
