    Hey guys,
Few comments about this topic been covered enough now. Completely get it and I agree, just thought this showed why it doesn’t go down when we are at low tide. Unless something new or exciting or a massive high tide (Which would be cool to see) happens we will not come back.
Appreciate all comments good and bad. Feedback is great, that’s how we can grow 👍

You need to look into hiring a Dutch drainage engineer to do a survey of the drainage system. When the Somerset levels flooded a few years ago all the EA would do,was shrug and say "we can’t do anything about it. It will just have to flood." Until they were shamed into action by Dutch specialists.

That’s the problem with the EA it’s rammed to the rafters with ‘environmentalists’ and not people that know how to manage the land or know how the land was managed. They have little or no knowledge of how waterways affect farming, or in-fact are that worried about how it affects farming, they are worried though about the nesting season of the greater crested horn toed lesser spotted pink weasel. I’ve worked with the EA and can tell you for a fact, there understanding of waterways and the interaction with the land is minimal to say the least and interest in it is even worse.

The airfield was at Ince-Blundell near Formby, and that had the drainage channels around the airfield and the farm fields, but like yours, they were full of water and so the airfield and farm fields were unusable a lot of the time.
I thought the channels around the airfield just needed scraping out, but now watching this, I realize it was probably the same situation miles away that was backing it all up.

They are talking about something that is affecting their own and their friends livelihood. What they are saying is common sense, that's how water works. If it gets stopped by improper design then debris and silt builds up. When debris and silt builds up then the water can't flow. There was definitely some flaw in the design of the pumping station that is causing their issues because they said its only been like this since the new pumping station has been put in. And yes it probably worked okay at first because it takes the debris and silt time to build up.

They are dealing with water systems and that were in place years ago , since then more people are draining their land into these waterways , hence more water going in quicker, Toms Dad complained about them widening the drain at his farm (obviously to hold more water) now hes complaining that they’re not doing anything about it. I keep saying all the rivers & canals need dredging it’s been years since they were done and every year floods & droughts get worse if the water can flow correctly you wouldn’t need all the flood defences some places have always flooded on occasion. Also look at the street drains when I was a kid you could look down it was dark but you could see the water and bottom now you look it’s thick black sludge silt build up. I think the EA should dredge all waters and watch as nature takes back over and shows us it can flow with no problem.

Great video Tom, the problem is nationwide. It's been neglected for so long, it's going to cost a fortune to remedy, all down to red tape & bureaucracy neglecting the issue for so long, it should go back to the old days when farmers had the powers & ability to maintain the drains, it's the farmers who know how the land works, not young university graduates that've never seen outside of a classroom. I'm hoping your videos on this issue go far & the EA & George Eustice get involved & actually do something. Try sending a link to the local MP to bring to the attention of them.

We have very high rainfall in Devon Tom, we're going to have to change how we farm going forward to try and future proof what we do, it's just something that has to happen now. No getting away from the fact it's getting wetter, have you guys got any ideas on how you might do the same. Good channel ,Cheers

I just pray that you could fix that problem with the water not draining! I hope somebody out there will hear you out and do something about it.

Not boring Tom and dad! It needs high lighting as it affects not only yourselves but I would think many others upstream too.
Have you made the EA aware you've made videos highlighting the problems? That may provoke them to get in touch with you.
I doubt this is the only river with this problem in the country.

I SOOOO want to see you stepping into the deep side. Tie off so dad can pull you back but you just take a single step in to show how deep it is.
Keep up the videos. This is what gets change happening and a fix getting pushed.

Physics and geography lessons in one 15 min video! I really hope this leads to a constructive discussion with EA. I’d love to see the water flowing and your land drained. I can’t imagine how frustrating this must be for you. Your dad’s oak tree metaphor is spot on!

You're getting lots of advice in the comments, but we're just hoping for an HEA. It's lots easier to do from our arm chairs. In my fantasy-fix, you gather the farmers together and just say "Never mind, we'll take it from here." Get your full-body-wellies on and get down there to have a look at what can be done. Really looking forward to seeing high-tide. Also want to have a closer look at those doors - I love the idea of Tom having a closer look, (SAFELY - thank you Andrew!). Love the drone shots! Very much enjoying this series. Somehow it's very compelling - we're all wanting to see a solution.

I love the comment from The ‘Mighty Ginger Warrior’ that if the farmers on the Fylde were managing the issue it would be sorted and they would be working to get it right! Government agencies have so much to balance and so many competing priorities so it would be very interesting if they would come and talk with you and TMGW. Another well made video that is informative and gets your point across.

This is part of farming and just as important to be aware of, please do the high tide. If nothing else it may get the necessary people to pull their fingers out to fix the problem.👌😉👌
