  • MEET FLETCHER. I’m sure many of you have met Fletcher before & can agree that he is the star of our channel. He has 11 countries on his pet passport after spending the past 12 months travelling with us around Europe in our van. We get many questions asking about how we travel with a dog, what is required, different ways to travel & advice. So we thought we would provide you with a short video giving you as much information as possible, in hope that you will find it useful for your next trip or maybe inspire you to take your furry best friend with you.

    Thanks for uploading. Very helpful. Had to smile because we used the same dog blanket (same colour, same motives) as you. We also used it the same way you do. Our dog clearly understood: "This is my place now I I don't wander around." It was actually her favourite blanket. She died 2 years ago (after 16 years) and we had her blanket cremated with her. We have her ashes in our home. BTW having a new dog in 2 weeks.

    This video was great ! Very clear and uncomplicated , definitely got a new subscriber .
    We have a 3 year old 70kg Boerboel ( southafrican mastiff ) that we travel around Scotland , England and Wales with but we find that rules around dogs are changed on sight of our dog !! Suddenly theres no dogs allowed today or its too busy or therse a size restriction etc its always disappointing as hes so well behaved and muzzle trained for when its needed. In the uk hes a mixed mastiff on paperwork as Boerboel isn't recognised by the uk kennel club . But France , Germany and others have a ban on Boerboels or tight restrictions so we're too worried to travel with him unfortunately . With the reaction he gets at a lot of places in the uk and the potential problems we just dont have the confidence to go even on the ferry to Ireland as we wouldn't expect anything different abroad . I don't see us travelling for many years as long as we have him but its a small price to pay for such a wonderful dog though and the UK especially the Scottish highlands and islands have many years of new experiences left for us

    Thanks for this video, very well explained. One question I have. If we want to travel from UK through a few different countries (sill in Europe) do we need to get the animal health check done for each country or does that certificate we get in the UK cover all countries in Europe. So for example leaving Uk to France, Switzerland, Italy, something like that.

    • @thetravelduo_
      @thetravelduo_  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your so welcome, glad you found it useful. So your one AHC will see you through most of Europe but will only last for 4 months. So if you are out longer you will need to get a new one in Europe. We went to France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Germany & Slovenia, not once did they ever check the AHC since leaving the UK, but important to have it on you just in case 😀 we haven't been to Spain & Portugal, I believe the rules are slightly different for there. If you go North, you need to give your dog a wormer treatment before entering Norway & Finland, we have just returned from the Arctic so will be doing a video all about this soon 😀

      Thank you 🙂 we never came across any borders when we travelled throughout the seven different countries in one trip where it was manned, so they never checked any paperwork or even knew about our dog. We didn't however travel to Spain & never have so couldn't comment on border controls but as far as we are aware the same rules apply to Spain: microchipped, vaccinated again rabies & a health certificate 🙂

      Hey Donna. Really pleased you found it useful 😊 we weren't asked anything about insurance so I don't think this is a must, however they did scan fletchers microchip on his back to make sure that the info lined up with the info on the certificate so I believe a microchip would be a must. Can the tapeworm treatment be issued before travel in UK, then taken before leaving the European country?
    How much did the rabies vaccine cost? How long did you have to wait after the vaccine to travel?
    Thank you so much for this video. I’m looking to travel, but I don’t think I’d cope without my dog! She’s task trained to interrupt my panic attacks and is a HUGE emotional support… I’m desperate to bring her to france with me.

    • @thetravelduo_
      @thetravelduo_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sadly not, you do have to organise a tapeworm in Europe as the vet has to sign as a witness that the dog has taken the tablet in the time it needs to be taken before arriving back in the UK.
      The rabies vaccine cost £60. This can be done at anytime as it usually lasts between 3-5 years. But it needs to be done a minimum of 3 weeks before you leave.
      You can definitely take your dog with you. It's easier than it looks 😊 hope this video helped you 🥰

      @thetravelduo_  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your welcome 🥰 The animal health certificate only lasts for 4 months so you will need to get another one issued whilst travelling, wherever you are when it runs out, find a local vet & get another one issued. Many vanlifers who are out of the UK alot or for a long time will look to get their dog an EU passport, this requires you registering them in France or somewhere & then they can come in and out whenever, we looked to do this but it would mean yearly vaccinations will no longer be able to be issued in the UK and would need to go back to the country you registered them in.
