- This is the detailed repair/replacement of a Shift Stop Lever Assembly on a 2006 YZ125.
Known issue on 2005 and 2006 YZ125s. Ball bearing style Shift Stop Lever Assembly is known to have a catastrophic failure resulting in metal bits being tossed about in the bottom end.
This vid also instructs on clutch replacement and kickstart gear installation.
Thanks for the video, saved me a couple hundred bucks, the shifting is 10x better now
Glad it helped you.
Great video. Hardest part was holding back the spring to tighten the stopper lever. I had someone hold back the spring with long needle nose pliers while I put the part in place.
A lot of good info, thanks for taking the time to make this!
great info and thank you for sharing. I am going to do the replacement in the spring.
2007 part is also the solid version as a replacement
It’s the Japanese Industrial Standard screwdrivers. AKA, JIS screwdrivers
How? I can’t remove my lock washer any tips
I got a 2001 125yz and i cant figure out how to install the middle rod to the clutch case, i have no tension due to the middle rod being loose! CAN ANYONE BODY HELP PLZ
There is usually a ball bearing at the end of the clutch push rod. It may have fallen out. Checkout a parts diagram on www.rmatvmc.com
Hey my shift stopper looked just like yours. Any problems with the bike after you replaced it? I know those bearing are somewhere in the engine.
joe ruyle No problems so far... 🤞🏻 I couldn’t find anything on the clutch side. I look for pieces ever time I change oil but so far I haven’t found anything. I just did a top end on this bike. It fresh again. 💪🏻. Good luck with your repair..
My nephews 02' YZ125 stopper arm came apart too.
Hello First of all nice video! I would like to ask where you bought your shift Stop lever Assembly as I have the same problem with my yz 125 form 2005 but can not finde any. Regards from Dänemark 🇩🇰
?
Hi Simon.... I got the part from www.rockymountainatvmc.com
It was a OEM part they had in stock.
@@DirtBikeDaryl thx
Does anyone know if 1999s have that little ball beraing in the clutch? i looked but didnt see one i dont know if it fell out and i didnt see it or if that year dosent have one for some reason.
To my knowledge it’s only the 2005 and 2006 model that had this issue.
Cool I aprciate it.
What about gasket maker🙃?
how did you tighten the clutch nut to 58 pound feet?
Ethan Trotman
That part was edited out but not intentionally though. I used a motion pro clutch holding tool.
@@DirtBikeDaryl also why didnt you put gaskets on?
Ethan Trotman
🤷🏼♂️ I did. The black gasket can clearly be seen. Can’t you see it? 🤦🏼♂️
I found 2 small ball bearing in my oil. I hope it’s from this
Let us know how you make out. Sounds like it could be your issue. And if you got them before they did damage, even better….
@@DirtBikeDaryl ended up being the power valve bearing. Only found the inside and outside race of the bearing. There’s more ball bearings hiding somewhere.

Oh man! That sucks. I guess you gotta get in there and see what you can find.
Not sure why the weather report is needed
