    Good vid Bill, I noticed at 2:47 that your kick gear clip is in the wrong place. The loop parts is supposed to sit in the U shaped part of the housing on the right, not the V in the case as you have it. Not sure how if it would even be noticeable or not but thought I'd point it out in case something acts up on your kicker in the future.

    Hey so is the stopper wheel thing supposed to be on the cutout in the shift drum in 1st gear or is it supposed to be in neutral when it’s on the cutout

    • @toomey706
      @toomey706  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When it’s in the raised cut out, that’s neutral. As long as it’s put back together properly it doesn’t really matter where that wheel sits. Whatever notch it drops into when you’re putting it back on is what gear it’s going to be in, so it really doesn’t matter whether it’s neutral or not.

      that link should give you all the detail you need on the clutch. You can select different years to look at the assemblies. Sometimes the problem with the adjustment is that the arm cable ties into is not set properly. You just have to trace backwards from the actuator shaft to the clutch itself. I can tell you, pennies aren’t gonna show up on the microfiche. LOL

    Nice detailed video! Any chance do you know if you have to split the cases the do the right side crank seal? Thanks

    • @toomey706
      @toomey706  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you don’t need to split the case. You need a tool to remove the magneto. There’s a 14 mm nut that holds the magneto on and he’s pulling it threads into the magneto. You can probably get it on Amazon for about $15 but you definitely need that to remove most magnetos. Once you have the magneto off there are three screws that hold the timing plate on. Behind those three is the crank seal. You can pull it out with a scribe. if you go to manualslib.com, You can probably find your service manual on there.

    • @toomey706
      @toomey706  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are the teeth on the shaft and the shifter worn down? It's probably your shifter. The only way the shaft can get out of place is if you take the outer case off the clutch cover side of the engine.
      Take a pair of vise grips and lightly grip the shift shaft and see if you can move it up or down into gear. If so then it's your shifter. Be careful not to mess up the splines on the shift shaft.

    • @toomey706
      @toomey706  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the crank turns then the first thing I would do is pull the kick-start gear out and see if the clutch Hub is turning also. If it's free then the rotating mechanism inside the kick-start gear is probably seized. When you put the bike in gear and rotate the back wheel does the motor turn?

    • @toomey706
      @toomey706  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have tension at the clutch? When you pull in the clutch, does it feel like its actuating? If so, go through this vid again. Does it go into gear and out of gear okay when its not running?

    • @glenndavis4047

      Yea clutch works as it should. And no it doesn't shift right when not running either.

    • @toomey706
      @toomey706  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glenn Davis if the arms got tension then it's going to be a rig issue, unless you have a transmission problem which is not likely. You've got to make sure that torsion spring is on the shaft properly and the roller that rides on top of the shift drum star is actually on top of the star. This video addresses that problem, so watch it from the beginning. You can't shift the bike with the side cover off or the roller on the shifting mechanism will hop off of the star. Good luck.

      The shift shaft goes from the right side of the engine to the left side of the engine and the shift lever attaches to the end of it. • @toomey706
      @toomey706  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will always have a little bit, but the shaft is held in place by the right side case so the shaft could be worn or the case could have some wear. If the right side case is off obviously the shaft will come right out. Some axial play is normal.
