    The race ECU makes the gearbox a little jerky compared to normal ECU at slower speeds, but works best when you are pinning it... such as driving hard on road or on track. Stock, there is a little turbo lag but you learn to deal with it, use it to the best of the cars ability. The whole car is a something you come to absolutely love and enjoy learning, spending long drives and a lot of time learning how to drive it. When you get it right it is very rewarding, when you don't it bites back and your ego is knocked. But this car will continue to excite you. I'm sure the same is the case with this car + mods, it takes time to learn it and love it, and maybe not from just a 1 hour drive. If you want predictable, refined, a vehicle thay you can fully understand and appreciate and know everything about it from a 8 minute video by a car reviewer... You should likely get something like a Porsche...

      How about the OEM clutch life with all these mods? Does it wear out if using Launch Control any more often than 1-2 times per year?

    • @inSUBout
      @inSUBout 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Gadne92.5 clutch will be fine, but as with anything it won't last forever especially if you are putting more power through the stock/oem clutch, which will reduce its life span. You can get reinforced clutch plates to help with this. Stock car you can do launch control all day every day.

      @RobertKarlBerta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@inSUBout The clutch has proven to be durable and good for this hp and torque but at the limit. There is a Kevlar replacement clutch set available. There is no way you are going to do launch control all day every day....with a 4C or any car. You beat the living hell out of the trans and differential. I have a modded 4C but the car is NOT a drag car. I do have a friend that drag raced his highly modified 4C with similar power to this one...did a total of over 60 Launches before something finally went....think it was 3rd gear. He also tracked that car nearly every weekend in 3 seasons of the year. By the way.....the 4C even with ECU upgrade shifts fine....the race version from AW has been fine tuning the shifting....updates are done through the internet. And it was as mentioned in this video....a little bit too harsh which would not be good on track. That is not an issue with a 4C...only on this race ECU but it is being addressed by AW.

Other people I know with the car have modded them- I agree that the stock suspension needs some tweaking, but coming from an NA Elise S2, it had plenty of power and the trans was as good as I could’ve hoped for (considering it wasn’t a manual). It's part of its soul.
      it's difficult, I'm not the best with the it. Hard to go above certain speed on rough roads with it manual steer. But for sure it is worth a lot of fun and spirit. The car as a whole, making the fun factor with low to moderate speeds. With vague steering, people started to search for faster and high g-lateral numbers to have fun. With this car you don't need them. (Yet you still have raipd acceleration and carbon chassis leading to amazing g-lateral numbers)

    • @RobertKarlBerta
      @RobertKarlBerta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any question of choosing between DCT or a traditional stick.....just drive a current car with a good DCT. You will quickly see the advantage. Have had many cars with stick shift including a SCCA race car. DCT is amazing. There are some nice things about old technology.....but there are good reasons why people like technology...otherwise you would still have crank start, mechanical drum brakes, etc.

    • @bst857
      @bst857 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RobertKarlBerta I have had a current car with DCT and there was nothing wrong with its operation, its lightning quick. No doubt it has the advantage. But I'm talking about fun, and I just think DCTs are less fun. You mentioned brakes - there is no skill or interactive difference with drum vs disc brakes, you press the pedal, and discs are better at stopping, end of story. But with DCT vs manual, there is a satisfaction to be had from it which is almost completely lost in a DCT, in my opinion. If you take your reasoning to its conclusion, you'll be happiest with a self driving car that can drive faster and better than any human, and you can just sit there as a passenger. When it comes to fun, there is a sweet spot between the old technology and the new, and I think DCT brings cars outside of that sweet spot. Manual involves you in the process, DCT removes you from it. Its why tennis rackets aren't huge, it'd be boring to play if the size of the racket meant you didn't have to concentrate, it'd be pointless to play.

    • @Gadne92.5
      @Gadne92.5 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bst857 Peoples are always arguing about DCT -boxes being fast and easy. Everyone seems to forget the connection and pure driving pleasure which only comes with manual gear changes, heel 'n toeing by YOURSELF. During day-to-day driving or even track days the factory claimed acceleration or any other performance numbers doesn't mean *shite* as 99,9% of the drivers, regardless the car, aren't gonna achieve similar laptimes than professional factory test drivers. Thus, for the sheer pleasure of it, manual is always better.
      True enthusiasts will know - ppls who think more speed and more power = better, ever wont...

      @RobertKarlBerta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bst857 Can't agree with you.....I raced for years in SCCA and can do a mean heel and toe but I would be the last one to say a DCT can't be just as fun and it is certainly faster. And on track you still shift the gears manually....just no clutch involved. There is a reason why all F1 cars, LeMans prototypes, etc. use DCT. Even those that use old style manuals in racing now use sequential shifters.

    • @RobertKarlBerta
      @RobertKarlBerta 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      If you drive a real DCT you will see why that is pretty much the standard now. Ferrari was talked into having a manual option for the 458 and it cost them big bucks. They sold two cars with that manual. I have owned tons of manual shift cars including a SCCA race car. But my 4C is amazing.....those who think it is simply a 6 speed slush box haven't driven one. Perfect rpm matching up and down shifts, 130ms shifts, and perfect matching to engine torque shift points. The 4C is a hard core drivers car....not a GT. Only the Lotus Exige and Alpine 110 are of similar design. Sadly that type of car is going away as sports cars become more and more bloated rolling sofas with lots of cup holders. Have had my 4C LE for 5 years....bullet proof on track and reliable. I like the interior.....mine is the leather dash and door cards and other upscale options. The instruments and controls are well laid out for driving. Lots of fan boys of other brands who haven't driven one....or if they did they didn't use it in the environment where it excels....tight twisties. It is a completely impractical car...except for putting one hell of a smile on your face.

    These were beautiful looking cars and should have been a real hit. The high price and cheap interior put me off. I could live with the engine and I could accept the interior but paying that much for something that felt like a Fiat Punto inside was ridiculous regardless of the external style. For all this looked much nicer than a Boxster or Cayman it was nowhere near as good and wasn't cheap.

    • @johnbradshaw5900
      @johnbradshaw5900 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Antonio Farina i think one of the problems for this car in the end was that it was neither a pared down track car nor a daily driver, being compromised in both respects. Porsche biased the Boxster to practical daily use, cars like the Lotus Exige make few compromises to daily use but are very performance focused, the 4C seemed to be somewhere in between. Even in a pared down track car people tend to have certain expectations for perceived quality at this price point. Basic and no frills is not the same as cheap feeling. Mazda can make a very pleasant interior for the much cheaper MX5.

    • @davidturgeon2087

      The North American version of the 4C has a very nice interior indeed, with stitched leather dash and door panels, a digital instrument display, Alcantara and leather seats and lashings of carbon fibre everywhere. As to build quality, I can only say it is outstanding. I've owned Fiats before, and my 4C is in another league altogether. It's virtually hand assembled by Maserati, and the care taken in construction shows.

    Also complaining about the interior, who fu@@ing care so much about the interior in a car that is all driven focused?
